I think Gman has proven to be more of a fan of linear shooters, and when a game doesn't throw a thousand markers of side missions on someone's screen, they might end up thinking the side missions are only going to be super obvious ones, whereas Deus Ex takes the subtle "happened upon it" approach, whether you took a wrong turn in the sewer or noticed a particularly strange sight through an otherwise unsuspecting apartment window. I wish every game with side missions would be that good at it, but for now it'll just stay as the reason Deus Ex is my favorite series, and I'm incredibly excited about future games and the way they use increasingly better development technology to make the most detailed, expansive, dense hub areas the series has seen. It really depends what the game was going for and what should happen if the player goes off course. I remember in the first splinter cell game, it was basically game over and have to restart a checkpoint if too much alarms were raised. Stealth games today usually allow alarms to be raised and the game to still go on, but that does not mean combat should be encourage in said stealth game. Even if someone takes an action oriented approach, they are better off taking enemies out silently before direct combat as fire fights becomes more easier if there are less people shooting at you. Even then it is better to hide and make the enemies search for you in order to take them out one by one. (use them vents when you see them) Also remember to use them augmentations as some of them can help in direct combat. And you can still hack stuff for xp and stuff.
Like it's predecessor this is worth buying to me for the art design (especially architecture) alone. It does a fantastic job of building a believable future world.
I didn’t like Human Revolution. I found the narrative lacked subtlety. I did like Mankind Divided, though. The developers seemed to have gotten better at the level design and I loved making my way around Prague.
12 hours is a ridiculously low estimate especially considering you said you tried to explore and do all the side quests. I'm at 25 hours in and I'm just finishing off mission 12 and from what I can tell I've still got a bit to go yet before completing it. That is with doing a lot of exploration/side quests and trying to read most of the the ebooks and pocket secretaries, hack all the safes and vaults e.t.c. A lot of the story is hidden in these things and you're missing out on a lot if you skip it.
That's not an estimate, it's how long my game time was in Steam when I'd finished it. I played it again in NG+ and it took a similar amount of time to finish as well.
Well then you rushed through it. Deus Ex games aren't designed to be rushed through, there's so much story and content hidden throughout the game and you have to go looking for it. This isn't new for the series. Obviously anyone can play the game the way they see fit but they will be missing out on a lot of the experience if they choose to rush through it. I just think it's unfair to call this a 12 hr game after saying you've explored as much as you could and done side missions when people who have actually done that are reporting 20hrs + at least.
DannnyL Deus Ex games are meant to be replayed over and over. I have since finished it 3 times. I got my money's worth. Also there is no right or wrong way to play Deus Ex games. I enjoyed the experience despite how short it was for me, so I don't know why you're so upset.
Been playing for several hours. The game is clearly designed around multiple playthroughs. DO NOT QUICKSAVE AND DO NOT QUICKLOAD! this game is clearly meant to be played as you go. Like real life, do not expect a perfect playthrough.
Other great fucking review, honestly the videos in the past month have been spot on, By the end of the year hopefully you can get to 100k. Anyway great work, keep up the sick reviews
Dawid Freeman I know right, took it out for free at my library and beat it in that time a month after it came out...try a few months of bad press and fan backlash, the popular games keep their high price tags for years if they were success, but if they barely made what companies call "the success line" or did poorly they will drop in price fast, faster if poorly as ME: Andromeda No Man's Sky proved (bought this at 17 dollars at gamestop 2 months ago along with two other games, I saw the two mentioned poorly viewed games under 20 and in NMS case under 15 around the 4th month of their release i believe I remembered...likelt why they put so mich focus on release date sales like they think there a movie or something which makes sense with all this talk of comparing games to movies and too much emphasize on making them more movie like in taking control away from you, then gameplay "Making mor one-dimensional stories for games was a mistake" - "paulman34340: TH-camr commenter").
Deus Ex, based on the hours played, is one of the best Single Player Campaigns I ever bought. The hours of enjoyment I have gotten from this title can only be equaled by multi player titles like GTA5 or BF4. The Dead space games come close, but when I check at STEAM the single player game I have logged the most hours playing over the years is this one. I am in fact playing through the last two again as I type this. If money spend vs hours of enjoyment are used as a basis of judging a game … Deus Ex defiantly ranks as money well spent.
Just picked this up a few weeks back, I was expecting it to be 12 hours from this review but I beat it after a solid 37, and I doubt I've cleared all the content.
Well, to be honest no Deus Ex story was really ever something to write home about. The first game was mind blowing when it came out, but have you played it recently? Story wise, it doesn't hold up nearly as well. Human Revolution was probably the most decent, and even then I largely forgot most of the details. and I've played it three times. To me, Deus Ex was more about world immersion, as oppose to story telling. The story just accompanied the whole immersion process as I dicked around.
***** Yea, the best thing about the story of the first game is not just what happen on the plot. But also the progression, how we always face a moral choice (even the meaningless) and how each conversation hold something. Even to small role NPCs. The way JC gave so many blows on both the NSF and the MJ12 operations was exiting. Meet the iluminati and they're ways of do things, Tong clan too. Even the start, who was Walton Simons. Idk, Mankind Divided just lack all that for me. First off, the way they gave us choices on HR and it has no weigh on the new game is disappointing (Invisible War did an amazing job in that aspect). Also, we kind of know already the game.. Adam Know about the iluminati and how it work, the game is just a linear path with no moral choices, Adam still just a pawn and alienate him self, it's all about megan again.... and we know how it will end... Augs will be wipped out and the black plague will start.
i think invisible war gets too much hate. at least i had the choice of going lethal or stealth (unlike HR which gives more xp for stealth. didnt play MD but i assume the same), who to side with, etc. i also liked the funny engine physics in iw. it was hilarious tossing ragdolls around and smacking people in the face with the dragon sword or baton. also im not too big on prequels in general because like you said "we know how it will end." oh, adam's doing this and that? sorry, not gonna matter, because *cue the grey death from deus ex 1* all that hard work gone to waste.
I Love the part at 2:40 where you said the visuals looked great and the girl was over on the left side just twitching her neck left and right. I just Died!!!
Nice review mate. One issue not raised is the boss fights, if there are any. My biggest issue with the previous game was speccing stealth then having a hard time with the bosses where stealth was irrelevant as most were just bullet sponges. Wondering if that is still the case?
Gggmanlives Cool and thanks for the reply man. Glad to hear they changed that aspect. PS Not sure if your a rugby fan but apologies in advance if we slaughter you tomorrow night. Hugs from NZ.
We should care. The fact that microtransactions, something that was once confined to shitty mobile games, are now in $60 AAA titles is beyond unacceptable. And what about the pre-order bonuses that you can only use once and for one save file? And locking augmentations behind day one DLC? Bull. Fucking. Shit.
nope, you've just lost control. I understand your frustration- the pre-order save file issue is... unsavory, but you are acting incredibly privileged. 60$ is a steal for most titles, need I remind you certain games that were only around 3 hours long went for 180$ back in the day? The gaming market has adjusted for inflation simply. Econ 101 really. You act as if publishers owe something, they really don't. And I might add, praxis kits- along with credits seem to be extremely abundant in this game relatively to the last- as Ggman said. It seems perhaps it is an issue with the publisher rather then the developer. I think they put it in for the few people that want to spend money- that is all. nothing is required. both the augmentations that are "behind a dlc wall" are useless lol. "beyond unacceptable," no offense- that argument is insane.
He is here to talk about the gameplay, if there are micro transactions then people will know. Does it suck? Yes. Can something be done about it? Yes, don't buy them. Then that will force publishers to make devs chop games up like Destiny and others, or another game price jump. They have to get paid, and the devs don't get to make the choices on the money. I don't understand why people don't get that, the devs don't get to control every aspect of their game. If the publisher says you gotta do this and the devs says no, then they will cancel the game. That is just how business works. It sucks that games have come to this, but once publishers realized they could get away with it, they will continue to try and squeeze our wallets dry.
I beat the game on give me deus ex this morning and got the spokes in two wheels. And it only took me 15 hours. No I am serious. 15 hours on hard. with almost everything complete.
de:hr was great, glad to hear there's no major concerns and performance is good at launch, will be picking it up shortly. don't mind it being short either.

Hey ggman isn't there that mode where your in this training program and it looks weirdly cool? I saw another review before yours and they mentioned that how come you didn't bring that up too? Heard it was a good way to expand upon the game more
If I have to recomend someone this games, I would say Human Revolution before Mankind Divided, not just for chronological reasons but I really enjoyed most the previous one. Even taking that in account mankind divided is a good game, I finished it in 35 hours doing lots of side missions but not all, and truly, the game was made with stealth in mind. You can blast your way trough it but is generally harder (really harder) and the combat sistem not fully satisfying (to me at least).
Gggmanlives Can you please review Ubisofts Rayman series or maybe one of the original ones(so 1,2 or 3). The older ones should also be a lot cheaper (due to being released in 1995,1999 and 2003), but still worth the money. You may wanna make sure you have an older OS before buying them as for example Rayman 1 ist an MSDOS game.
'Mankind Divided' seems like a graphically upgraded 'Human Revolution'. As said the graphics are stunning compared to its predecessor though it shares also some of its annoyances like the overdose of cut scenes; the 3th person hiding mode and a misty story. A stealthy play through is advised but I prefer to shoot my way through the levels. This becomes somewhat of a problem in the end where you are supposed to bypass the police. I got also annoyed with the alarm set off in every hacking attempt so one has to upgrade augmentations in that area as well. I am not a real fan of the series though I enjoyed this one the most.

3:20 oh I love that little jab to No Man's Lie
DannnyL
Deus Ex games are meant to be replayed over and over. I have since finished it 3 times. I got my money's worth. Also there is no right or wrong way to play Deus Ex games. I enjoyed the experience despite how short it was for me, so I don't know why you're so upset.
12 hours with all the side quests? No fuckin way
Been playing for several hours.
Nice review :) Nr 1 rule for modern Gaming : ALWAYS BUY GAMES AFTER 1 MONTH OR LATER.
I buy games after a 6-12 months. With all DLC's and 33-50% price.
***** Im doing the stick to last gen until mid generation.

I just don't want to be a beta tester without my permision.
This game.
I cant fucking wait to play it.
Human Revolution was a surprise game for me back in 2011.
And now an official sequel is here.
Huh, 48 hours base game finished, and DLCs still waiting for me. Dunno, why did it take you only 12 hours.
Just picked this up a few weeks back, I was expecting it to be 12 hours from this review but I beat it after a solid 37, and I doubt I've cleared all the content.
I’m sure someone brought this up but Vernon George Wells is Australian.
Thanks for seeing the forest for the trees, gggman!
I’m 78 hours in, I just love looking at things and exploring every Inch of this game lmaoo
Gonna wait for all content to be available, bugs and optimizations fixed great review.
2:12 Literally the MGS/Terminator pose.
12 hours? That sounds more like a speedrun to me. It took me 45 hours to complete the game and I missed some sidequests. :D
I've been playing it for 60 hours and I still haven't reached the end. How the hell did you play it in 20 hours ^^
How the hell did it take you 60 hours? What are you doing all the time?
Exploring and stuff. And I've been playing it full stealth/pacifist. That might be another reason.
Deus Ex is the one game that we should give a shit about the story.
And this game story was so meh :\
Well, to be honest no Deus Ex story was really ever something to write home about. The first game was mind blowing when it came out, but have you played it recently? Story wise, it doesn't hold up nearly as well. Human Revolution was probably the most decent, and even then I largely forgot most of the details. and I've played it three times.
To me, Deus Ex was more about world immersion, as oppose to story telling. The story just accompanied the whole immersion process as I dicked around.
Cyanide Blizzard
I did and for me it is much better then Human Revolution in story. It just had something about it
*****
Yea, the best thing about the story of the first game is not just what happen on the plot.
Augs will be wipped out and the black plague will start.
sometimes a story isn't just about how simple it is but how it's told and deux ex human revolution did an outstanding job
i think invisible war gets too much hate. at least i had the choice of going lethal or stealth (unlike HR which gives more xp for stealth. didnt play MD but i assume the same), who to side with, etc. i also liked the funny engine physics in iw. it was hilarious tossing ragdolls around and smacking people in the face with the dragon sword or baton. also im not too big on prequels in general because like you said "we know how it will end." oh, adam's doing this and that? sorry, not gonna matter, because *cue the grey death from deus ex 1* all that hard work gone to waste.
10hrs in on PC and fucking loving this game.
I completed one playthrough with all side quests/exploring and clocked over 40 hours.
after watching about a dozen or so of your videos, I gotta say, you do damn a find job on these reviews. just wanted to let you know
I Love the part at 2:40 where you said the visuals looked great and the girl was over on the left side just twitching her neck left and right. I just Died!!!
Good review :)
I disagree about the stealth part you can EASILY terminator your way run and gun style if you spec into health and defense
Nice review mate. One issue not raised is the boss fights, if there are any. My biggest issue with the previous game was speccing stealth then having a hard time with the bosses where stealth was irrelevant as most were just bullet sponges. Wondering if that is still the case?
There's 1 boss fight and there's a non lethal option.
Gggmanlives Cool and thanks for the reply man. Glad to hear they changed that aspect. PS Not sure if your a rugby fan but apologies in advance if we slaughter you tomorrow night. Hugs from NZ.
Not gonna mention those microtransactions, huh?
who cares? they are non-intrusive
+Rain Maker Even if they're non-intrusive, they shouldn't be in a 60 dollar AAA game. That's just too fucking greedy.
I think I was around the same, Steam said 12 hours but I know it didn't calculate it all properly.
de:hr was great, glad to hear there's no major concerns and performance is good at launch, will be picking it up shortly. don't mind it being short either.
Can you do a review on The Turing Test?
You définitly didn't do every side missions
Great review but how do you managed to finish it in 12 hours? I have already played 14 hours and not even close to the end. Mission 7 on main quest :)
My gaming is augmented.
Great review as always, Sonny Jim
I miss the urine colored filter of the previous game, I got seriously used to it.
Loved the review!
I really really really enjoyed both titles, looking forward when the next installment comes out.
I enjoy this game's neutral political take. With all the hypersensitive babies nowadays it feels good to know this game is very "in the middle" and doesn't pick a side, much to the dismay of said babies
ya, honestly I feel people on polygon and fem freq got really angry that it didn't choose their side, i really do like how grey the game is
I think you mean Kotaku? Polygon's actually pretty alright now, at least, so I thought I heard, anyway...
macgeek2004 Nah, they're not. If anything Polygon has gotten worse since Gawker was bought out by Univision and now they don't have any competition for that "style" of journalism.
***** I didn't say I myself wasn't a huge baby. I AM playing video games after all.
Nazrat84 amen
Rex "Power" Colt, still the most badass aug of all. Can melee a garrison full of dudes without recharging an itty bitty battery
No mention of the tacked-on challenge modes? Are they any good?
I need to get around to playing Human Revolution anyway so this game can sit at the back of the pile for now. Great review, it looks really cool.
2:39 - 2:46
Look at the bottom left.
A person is constantly shaking his/her head, sending his/her ponytail flying around.
I personally love the game so far. Of course it's not nearly as good as the original, but it's better than HR for me personally! Graphics are stunning too.
Sonny Jim how fast do you play games! Pumping out the reviews
Hey ggman isn't there that mode where your in this training program and it looks weirdly cool? I saw another review before yours and they mentioned that how come you didn't bring that up too? Heard it was a good way to expand upon the game more
I'll be getting Human Revolution for the Wii U for like $15 on ebay soon, I've always wanted to play a Deus Ex game.
Damn, those panoramic scenes look good.
This game has the best and most complex side quest I have ever done, so go and play it right MEOW!
12 hours? Took me four hours just to unlock the new augments...guess I'm taking my time xD
Thanka for that review and #Shotsfired at NoMansSky lmao
Hi. Big fan of your videos. I am curious about the rig you are running this in.
GTX 1080, i7, 16gb ram.
do you ever intend on reviewing the penumbra series?
At 2:40, that woman on the left. Commonly referred to as the "Wololo" bug.
Human Revolution had a quick save too. I'm surprised you didn't mention all the bugs people complained about.
Because I didn't encounter any bugs.
How come does Ign say it's 20-30 hours then?
IGN say a lot of things.
True
Gggmanlives
Can you please review Ubisofts Rayman series or maybe one of the original ones(so 1,2 or 3).
Do you always get pre-release access to new games? Nice work!
Those blank pauses between each takedown shown in the review are so jarring
@3:12
"Though occasionally it would dip down into the 40's [fps]"
"considering it's like this unreleased tho? it's far better than other PC titles I've played in recent memory"
*NO MAN'S SKY POSTER SHOWS*
lmaoo
Not sure who Robert Page is. But the guy we see in the clip is Bob Page.
Are you trolling?
First walkthrough with every side mission and every achievement (except "I Never Asked for This") = 45 hours.
Exploring and doing all things took 12 hours? damn dude, you are fast. i Have 35 hours played and i just arrived London oO
The game ended just as it was getting good, that last mission shouldn't have been the last mission
Square Enix forced Eidos to cut the game in half :/
Hey man! Have you ever done a Necrovision review?
I finished the main story and most of the side missions in about 38 hours. The original is still my favorite in the series, but this one beats IW and HR pretty handily.
Based on the recap and all, I take it that there is no use for old saves? No carrying decisions from HR to MD?
Nope.
oh boy 3 am video from ggg man woo
Just found about your site yesterday and been binge watching it since, could you do a top 20 or top 10 video of your favorite games? I know ether Doom or Fear is number one according to one of your comments but it would be a fun thing to watch.
Hey Triple G I'd love to see your take on the Deus Ex Revision mod one day.
are there any boss fights? If there are did the developer at least improved those fights in any way?
I didn't want to say in the review because of spoilers, but yes there's 1 boss fight and it has a non lethal option.
so, what next? a full remake of the original Deus Ex? that would be neat, however the old graphics of the original have their own charm
do you agree? how do you feel about the remake thing?
Gggmanlives, I have a question. Is there a reason why you haven't reviewed Goldeneye 007 for N64 yet?
Reasons.
+Gggmanlives For whatever reasons exactly, I do hope you review it sometime in the future. It may have its share of dated flaws, but it was a huge mark in console fps at the time, and seeing you review other important games at the time, it would only be interesting to see your opinion on it.
2:35 'If there is one thing to be said' it'll be the same thing I say about every 3rd or 4th game I review.
Absolute madness, right? What am I thinking talking about the graphics in a video game review?
does this force you into those awkward boss fights? you know the ones where you have to gun them down with your full non lethal play through?
So far as I know there is one boss fight, with lethal and non lethal option.
gggman what do you think about alan wake
