  • Marcel Breuer was one of the most important furniture designers of the 20th century. Here Christopher Wilk, Keeper of Furniture, Textiles and Fashion at the V&A, explores the history of the Short Chair - one of his best-known designs.
    Breuer emigrated to London from Germany in 1935 and the Short Chair is part of a group of modernist plywood furniture that he designed for the Isokon Furniture Company in the late 1930s.

    An educational video with the history of a beautiful and functional chair. I didn't kow that plywood was so strong!

    Let’s give credit to Alvar Aalto who came up with the bend wood concept, he design the “31” arm chair inspired by marcel Breuer (1931)
