My first year teaching in 1998 my classroom looked out upon a mural of whales and dolphins on the side of the museum. It was always grateful for that mural. The more stressful my year became the more thankful I was for that year. A big thank you to mural painters everywhere
Finally it aired! Yay! We were in laguna and got to meet and talk to Tracy and Robert after this interview they did while walking on the beach. Both were so so nice!
So glad to see this and relive the memories of watching him paint the Edgewater in Seattle 2 years ago. Everything Wyland does is for the sake of the animals and helping people grow closer to them .. which is far more meaningful and powerful than praise from any art critic. 🌎🎨💙
Bill is an inspiration to every person with artistic talent who has yet to find success. His story about surviving on a Snickers bar diet shows how his persistence and faith payed off.
I am so excited to see this! I moved to the Florida Keys 28 years ago when I got married. When I 1st moved there I was introduced to this amazing artist and would buy as much of his artwork as I could and loved seeing pictures of the whaling walls! I love ❤️ sea life 💙 and so this remarkable art really touches my soul ❤️ 💖!
This story was great! i just started to watch your sunday morning show a month ago. The way you put the stories together is amazing. the whole show is really good. really enjoying
Beautiful and thank you for sharing our local beauties who we love and try very hard to protect. We locals encourage lovers not to get too close as they have too many "paparazzi tour boats" viewing them ev. summer. Love your gracious talent!!
Wow he's 65?? He is pretty good looking himself!!! They've been painting a bunch of murals here in Jackson Michigan, our city should've hired him to come do a mural.
Ahhh! To have the vision of an artist is such a gift! And listen up Critics! He doesn't paint for you, he paints for the people. Furthermore, he doesn't even know how to spell C-R-I-T-IC!
He's attractive, too young for me but when I heard he's 65, 64 left handed, too! CV has left brains..Some guy called him a womanizer while another spoke of Wyland & Tracy. When you do things for a deeper purpose of joy, it seems youth will be a constant companion.
He looks way younger than 65! Maybe I should take up mural painting.🤔🐬🐋🐳🐟🐟🐢 There's a whale mural here in San Diego painted on the wall of a car dealership. Could it actually be one of Wyland's?🤔🤫
I personally don't find his murals drawing me in. I.most appreciate his work for drawing in others, who hopefully become more aware of the declines in every ocean and sea. Bob Talbot's work is mesmerizing. Catching that fleeting moment where light and movement are perfect - with a film camera - now that is magical.
If you are interested in purchasing any of his artwork, I work at Wyland Galleries Lahaina. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Wesp@signaturegalleries.com
Why did you cover the mural in Las Vegas…..you invited children to paint and then destroyed it by not acknowledging it and then painting over it. You destroyed so many little souls😢
Be honest, show of hands.. How many of you paid a bazillion dollars for a wyland, kimcade, thinking you’d be set for life now selling it to the louvre or Smithsonian ?

I was lucky enough to buy an original painting 30+ years ago when he opened a small gallery on 2nd street in BelmontShore, CA. I cherish it every day.
He and his work are a gift to the rest of us. Thank you!
Amen! A beautiful, humble human being! All's right with the world when his vision comes to life.

A happy artist who doesn't care about the critics. I like this man.
This guys sucks
Finally it aired! Yay! We were in laguna and got to meet and talk to Tracy and Robert after this interview they did while walking on the beach. Both were so so nice!
Love his work especially because it's FREE to anyone who wants to look and enjoy. It's not easy what he does by any means.
His mural in his hometown of Detroit is amazing
People from Michigan never give up

Bill is his brother. You mean Robert. 😀
Kudos to Tracy’s courage and maturity for scuba diving and jumping on scaffolding for us without even a blink of an eye.
Wyland is so amazing Long Beach Arena.
Love this, beautiful! Thanks to all who posted. Love, light and joy to all.
I’ve seen his paintings and they are beautiful
This man is so genuine and the joy that radiates from him is just so wonderful. I love this segment.

Wow, I would've guessed his age at 45! Talented and gorgeous!
He feels the same about you
I thought I was the only one who noticed! OY!!! A very BEAUTIFUL man, inside and out!
One of his art pieces has been my family’s shower curtain for as long and I can remember. It’s nice to see the man responsible for this great art!
Thank you for your wonderful story and the beautiful whales.
Look how young he looks.
He does! It’s probably because he’s doing what he loves.
I use to watch his show on PBS all the time on Sundays.
same !
I have loved seeing the CLE Public Power Whale mural every time I drive by it for the last 24 yrs! Just a beautiful piece on our lake shore!

He's the guy that did the hull art on the Norwegian Bliss Cruise Ship
Our artistic angel on earth! MAHALO KING WYLAND!🌄🏝🌈🥰😇😎
Lovely view of Laguna Beach... A people's artist is a fitting description for the wonder and beauty he shares.
Wow he's 65?? He is pretty good looking himself!!! They've been painting a bunch of murals here in Jackson Michigan, our city should've hired him to come do a mural.
I went to Jackson once to see the Cascades.
We have one here on an RC Willey building in Salt Lake City. It's beautiful.
I grew up in San Diego. His work is all over. I still recall when his van was stolen…
One of my favorite artists ♥️♥️🥰⚘
I love the one he has in Cleveland on the Lake Erie shoreway.
Thank you for saying that. I will have to go by and take a look!
@@KatieG55 you can see it from 1-90 it’s just east of Burke Lakefront airport.
His studio in key west is dope
Always liked the one outside my dad's old Akpirg office in Anchorage.
Fantastic I love his work
Wow i had checks with his images, miss them! Just get the regular ones now
At 3:10 that's my home town, San Pedro California..

I remember his massive whaling wall painted on the side of a hotel in Hawaii! Waikiki, Oahu. My childhood.
YES
wow. he's amazing.
They need to get him to do the painting in Wildwood again, since that one has been painted over.
I don't paint for the critics! Love that! Critics are fools!
that is amazing.
OH MY !!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL IDEA !!!!! AND SO HANDSOME !
He's attractive, too young for me but when I heard he's 65, 64 left handed, too! CV has left brains..Some guy called him a womanizer while another spoke of Wyland & Tracy.

Wonder what will happen to the mural on the Kmart in Marathon, Florida building. Now closed.
What song is this playing in the background
He looks way younger than 65!
Maybe I should take up mural painting.🤔🐬🐋🐳🐟🐟🐢

He’s making bank & giving back so who cares about critics.
All his art looks the same
3:11 That mural was at Paramount Studios and they painted over it about 20 years ago

Is the San Diego Wall a "Wyland"??
i saw his phone bill in the 80's
25,000 a month pre cell
pre internet.
Pagers and pay phones,
phones with cords
were the norm
murals were not

65 ?!!!?
his next job is a painting a mural on the side of city hall of ALL the homeless tents outside of city hall.
Why did you cover the mural in Las Vegas…..you invited children to paint and then destroyed it by not acknowledging it and then painting over it. You destroyed so many little souls😢
Was it him who destroyed it or the owner of the building?
Successful artist (whatever that means)....and womanizer par excellance.Inside knowledge.
True success brings one joy. He’s extremely successful.
Ok, so he's diversified in his 'talents'.

Now this is a CBS Sunday Morning story! In the old days, CBSSM used to include an artist story with every episode. Now it’s a rarity 😞😡
So what's he doing for the animal's he makes his money from ?
Not a thing! It is all for the money. I know I worked for him.

That's ok too, man's gotta eat !
Didn't mean to sound harsh, he deserves all he can get !
He has a foundation. He also does the murals for free to spread awareness. 4000 gallons of paint isn’t cheap.
Be honest, show of hands.. How many of you paid a bazillion dollars for a wyland, kimcade, thinking you’d be set for life now selling it to the louvre or Smithsonian ?
I haven’t, but wouldn’t want to sell either anyway if I had.
Is he married?
No
Soon enough that will be one of the only ways to see things from the sea.
