Well put. Once sri Laxmiji asked lord Vishnu who is bigger than u? Sri lord smiled and said my devotee is bigger than me. This to point out to your point about why settle for less. Tell me why ISKCON only emphasizes on Bhakti Yog and asks bhaktas to give up Karma yoga? Due to this many brilliant brains are leaving their work and doing only Bhakti. This is wrong. Krishna has told that in any Yoga with pure dedication you can attain me.
