Everyone always comments how Freddie’s voice was awesome etc etc (which it obviously was)... but people often don’t understand how the technical marvel and physicality of his vocal abilities are literally unmatched - so much so that scientists actually proved it! Firstly, not only did he belt out an astonishingly huge range (he was naturally a baritone but commonly sang tenor) but also had crazy agility within this range. He was also capable of sub harmonics (using parts of the voice not naturally used when talking or singing). Then there was his vibrato which rocked at much higher hertz than regular vocalists. His was one of the most performative voices too, with a natural musicality. Wow, just wow! 😮 I wish we rewarded genuine talent like this today, instead of admiring manufactured and often computer fabricated excuses for ‘music’. Yeah, with the exception of the opera section on Rhapsody, if they couldn't reproduce it with the four of them (plus the touring keyboardist) they just did without. Come to think of it, nowadays if they can't do it with Adam and the same-sized touring band (with the same touring keyboardist) they do without.

Years before electronic augmentation you were either amazing or you weren't, now other skills can compensate for lack in vocals or instruments. It gives us a wider range of music today, but it's hard to be awe struck by raw talent now anything amazing is assumed to be electronically patched. Remember when lip syncing was shameful? The "army " you see in the crowd is nothing. Live Aid was the most viewed event in history with 1.9 billion people tuning in. 40% of the planet was singing and clapping and stomping with Freddie Mercury that day.

At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded be the horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of to many terrible memories I have to count, from 34 years of active service, and 2 years hospitalisation. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.

Queen prepped for this and you can tell. Each band was allowed “X” amount of time on stage. Queen had it timed to the second. This is evidenced by the strip of lights (green, yellow, red) on stage to signal to the artist(s) how they were on time. If you look from the bands perspective on the floor on the right, when the band plays the last note of the set and Freddie drops his arm, the light turns red. Just perfection.
Sadly I only got to spend a small part of my life with Freddie in it as I was 10 when he sadly passed but I'm thankful for it as I loved listening to Queen and still do.

I skipped school to stay home and watch this. We were pretty poor, and didn't have the means to buy the newest technology, The VHS. This was the only time my mother never said a thing about my cutting class. ( I .. *cough cough*..was .."sick", and thought I had put on good show) I didn't, and was grounded the minute Live Aid was over. Thank you Mr. Video, for your time and effort.

And tonight I sit here doing the same thing two months later !! I thought I’d reached the end of the hole but nooooooo. Then I get hit with this !! Oh man. Life goes by so quickly guys. Its really cool to see the younger generations finding and discovering Freddie, Queen, their Live Aid set still sounds so good. I was watching as a teen and remember the rotary dial phones and all the people answering and taking donations on the air. Every time I watch this its a happy time.
The end is so good. He’s not just singing his songs. He invited the audience to take part in this historical event. The audience became a part of the music. And he walks around the stage enjoying what he created and feel the love they have for him.
Fun fact: Freddie had issues with his throat that night (I believe it was an infection or something) and his doctors told him not to sing or he could permanently damage his voice. Man went on to perform the greatest show of all time.

Freddie has such a huge stage presence. You can almost feel the charisma emanating from him. No matter how good you are at playing an instrument, no matter if you have the voice of an angel. If you do not have that 'spark', that little something in your personality, that magic in your soul, that gives you that bit extra, you'll never make it big...

The rabbit hole that is Queen is deeper than you could ever imagine, including Hammer to Fall, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love. If you are learning the history of rock then this is a staple of the course. This show is a perfect way to watch a band show it's love for their fans and the entire crowd reciprocating that love. Once you see this, it stays with you. A piece of music history that should not be missed. I'm so happy you have witnessed this. It wasn't to long after this that Freddie was diagnosed and within a few years he did the video These Are The Days Of Our Lives, and it still breaks my heart every time I see it. He loved us as much as we loved him. Quintessential Rock Star. It's an honor to watch this but I can only watch it through glassy tear filled eyes. But in total admiration for the legend he was.

I remember the concert vividly and I think Queen were about the fourth band on. They had had a string of hits but were relatively quiet at that time. Their performance though propelled them into the stratosphere. Freddie was a comet that seared across the sky too briefly. In a way his brilliance and his lifestyle doomed him and at the same time ensured his permanent place in music. What a catalogue of songs Queen have for generations to enjoy.
Can't take my eyes off of Freddy on this one. His performance makes my heart pound and leaves me out of breath. His presence and stage & crowd command is something else. This one outshines everybody else. BTW I am pretty sure they also had to consider which songs to play in Live Aid, a benefit concert. They were gathering money for famine in Africa and I think it would have been utterly tasteless to play Another One Bites the Dust in this context.

watching queen concerts is one of the greatest ways to discover their songs, because of the extra adrenaline the live brings to them. Like, my first queen experience was the montreal show and I just felt it so hard, that show version of "Keep yourself alive" was the first queen song that made me think: OK I'M HOOKED 😈😈😈
They started Bohemian Rhapsody because it is strategic for them since they were already considered “an old band” by that time so the best way for the young audience to know and vibe with them is by starting out with their most famous song - which is Bohemian Rhapsody 😅
Brian May said in an interview that Freddie was able to play a lot of different instruments but the more and more that they toured he played less and less. He loved to play the audience over the instruments. Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" from his bath tub.
This was broadcast live all over the world to raise money for famine relief in Africa. There was another concert in Philadelphia the same day. Phil Collins preformed in London, boarded a Concord flight (doesn’t exist anymore) and went to Philly and played there as well. The songs you didn’t know are Radio GaGa, Hammer to Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Their catalogue of great songs is huge. I hope you react to the official video for Save Me. I remember watching this when I was 10 on T.V. It was amazing. Even as a kid I knew I was seeing something special. This was a benefit concert and they weren’t getting the donations they were expecting then Queen came on and stole the show with a mash-up of some of their great songs. To this day no one has ever topped Queen. Freddie was the greatest frontman in history the Ay-oh part shows how he could memorize a crowd.

We were surrounded be the horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of to many terrible memories I have to count, from 34 years of active service, and 2 years hospitalisation.
I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.

Queen prepped for this and you can tell. Each band was allowed “X” amount of time on stage. Queen had it timed to the second. This is evidenced by the strip of lights (green, yellow, red) on stage to signal to the artist(s) how they were on time. If you look from the bands perspective on the floor on the right, when the band plays the last note of the set and Freddie drops his arm, the light turns red. Just perfection.

I skipped school to stay home and watch this. We were pretty poor, and didn't have the means to buy the newest technology, The VHS. This was the only time my mother never said a thing about my cutting class. ( I .. *cough cough*..was .."sick", and thought I had put on good show) I didn't, and was grounded the minute Live Aid was over. Thank you Mr. Video, for your time and effort.

Its really cool to see the younger generations finding and discovering Freddie, Queen, their Live Aid set still sounds so good. I was watching as a teen and remember the rotary dial phones and all the people answering and taking donations on the air. Every time I watch this its a happy time.
The end is so good. He’s not just singing his songs. He invited the audience to take part in this historical event. The audience became a part of the music. And he walks around the stage enjoying what he created and feel the love they have for him.

Fun fact: Freddie had issues with his throat that night (I believe it was an infection or something) and his doctors told him not to sing or he could permanently damage his voice. Man went on to perform the greatest show of all time.

If you are learning the history of rock then this is a staple of the course. This show is a perfect way to watch a band show it's love for their fans and the entire crowd reciprocating that love. Once you see this, it stays with you. A piece of music history that should not be missed. I'm so happy you have witnessed this. It wasn't to long after this that Freddie was diagnosed and within a few years he did the video These Are The Days Of Our Lives, and it still breaks my heart every time I see it. He loved us as much as we loved him. Quintessential Rock Star. It's an honor to watch this but I can only watch it through glassy tear filled eyes. But in total admiration for the legend he was.

There was crowds like this all around the world, man that was an amazing weekend.
I remember the concert vividly and I think Queen were about the fourth band on. They had had a string of hits but were relatively quiet at that time. Their performance though propelled them into the stratosphere. Freddie was a comet that seared across the sky too briefly. In a way his brilliance and his lifestyle doomed him and at the same time ensured his permanent place in music. What a catalogue of songs Queen have for generations to enjoy.
His stage presence will forever be unmatched...seen this so many times and it never gets old
Can't take my eyes off of Freddy on this one. His performance makes my heart pound and leaves me out of breath. His presence and stage & crowd command is something else. This one outshines everybody else. BTW I am pretty sure they also had to consider which songs to play in Live Aid, a benefit concert. They were gathering money for famine in Africa and I think it would have been utterly tasteless to play Another One Bites the Dust in this context.

Brian May said in an interview that Freddie was able to play a lot of different instruments but the more and more that they toured he played less and less. He loved to play the audience over the instruments. Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" from his bath tub.
This was broadcast live all over the world to raise money for famine relief in Africa. There was another concert in Philadelphia the same day. Phil Collins preformed in London, boarded a Concord flight (doesn’t exist anymore) and went to Philly and played there as well. The songs you didn’t know are Radio GaGa, Hammer to Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Their catalogue of great songs is huge. I hope you react to the official video for Save Me. One of my favorite songs.
I remember watching this when I was 10 on T.V. It was amazing. Even as a kid I knew I was seeing something special. This was a benefit concert and they weren’t getting the donations they were expecting then Queen came on and stole the show with a mash-up of some of their great songs. To this day no one has ever topped Queen. Freddie was the greatest frontman in history the Ay-oh part shows how he could memorize a crowd.
