I did love the art, even when I first read it as a kid. I remember that the Ultimate Riddle was my favourite because I loved the stories where the hero’s forced to fight several enemies to survive. It was also my first introduction to Judge Dredd. My dad gave me a few of his comics afterwards but I was too young to enjoy them for what they were. Turns out he had some pretty good ones, I just didn’t understand how deep they were. But I still enjoy these crossovers today, though now I prefer Die Laughing, now that I know more about the Dredd universe and realise just how dangerous the Dark Judges truly are.
The first Batman/Dredd I read was a Dutch reprint of the second part of Die Laughing. For all the talent on display, and even with Simon Bisley and Glenn Fabry on art, maybe that's the reason I still like Murray's artwork the best out of all of them. It's the most colourful, and I feel the most dynamic and I love his rendtion of the Dark Judges. Every artist slayed it on their respective books, but's that's just how I feel.
An absolutely beautiful collection. I think I have about four copies of all adventures... I come back sparely. Re-reading once every few years to keep it as fresh as I can. I’d love to see an animated movie with Dredd and Batman imagine the possibilities!
Honestly was thinking about when I read this as a kid, when I was rewatching Dredd...which was closer to the comics imo..and they are within it to try and make a Dredd 2 with Karl Urban returning.

I didn't even know about Die Laughing that one passed me by. Judgement in Gotham is great. I am a big Batman and Judge Dredd fan so when Judgement came out I was in Geek Overlode.
I have a bisley signed version of this and Lobo the last czarin - got it in person at forbidden planet in 1991 - I think Alan grant was there too - amazing what you could get back in the day

Bruce punches Dredd in the face hard enough to shatter the visor of his armored helmet and he immediately gets back up like it was nothing. Then Bruce Wayne gets the absolute s**t beat out of him by multiple judges with daysticks. This the the same guy that takes on groups of armed combatants and wins easily. That speaks a lot about the capabilities of the average judge.
Bisley's artwork is great, but it did make Gotham and Mega City 1 look way too similar. When Mean smashes up the bar, the patrons all look like Mega City weirdos too.
Saying that criminals are superstitious and cowardly is helpful at making the public be unafraid of crime, but the reality is that a criminal is probably the single most logical and lazer-focused individual you'll ever meet IRL.
I'd like to let you know what I think of The Ultimate Riddle and Die Laughing! but they're not in print anymore :P Got the digest editions of the first two though and loved both of 'em!
You know Judge Dredd is a movie that has not been represented properly yet.... they need a great Director... from the Watchmen or Batman... and make Judge Dredd against Judge death , judge fear and all the rest of them a 15 rated movie the potential is off the charts if they do it right! Cmon DC a REAL Judge dredd movie!!!
I think you might have missed a step when you said that DC heroes and 2000 AD Dredd might not mix well, which is evident in how well they did. Batman is the most right wing character in the DC universe (other than Rorschach), hardcore justice orientated, and Dredd is... Well, he's Dredd! He's the same, only he's willing to execute criminals on the spot, whereas Batman isn't willing to accept any deaths. Of *course* they'd have mutual respect, and of course they'd meld well, with Dredd of course also wanting to jail Batman for his blatant crimes of "having illegal weapons" etc. Haha. They disagree on the level of punishment and how it will effect crime, but they ultimately agree on who is and is not the enemy. Friend/enemy distinction is clear cut. They're friends. They know who is the enemy (the unjust). They're two characters I'd expect to meld easily, and oh how well they did! Great crossover. Maybe the best.

I hired Judgement on Gotham from the library back in the day. Loved it. Bought a copy as an adult.
I love the visual reference to "Gaze into the fist of Dredd" panel when Bruce punches Judge Dredd.
Could anyone imagine the Punisher in 2000AD? Judge Dredd would have a lot of work cut out for him.

The only problem I have with Judgement in Gotham is how they nerfed both Dredd and Death.
DID they nerf Dredd though? Death was definitely somewhat under powered though.

I love 2000ad and all, but one of the best/successful crossovers of all time? Nah that honour clearly goes to TMNT/batman.
