Remember, the moisture meter is basically a toy. Treat it as such and don’t trust it more than your own eyes and nose. I have been a chartered building surveyor for 40 years.
I agree, I don’t use it unless I know the surface is completely dry to demonstrate it’s dry. Your better off touching areas looking for leaks , looking at water stains and identifying mould growth properly.. damp meters in my opinion give a false positive..

Is this a well paid career? I'm an engineer in Aerospace industry but thinking of changing career because the pay is terrible and not at all in line with prices of goods in 2021
Yeah 100% the apprenticeship degree is better, I've just finished my QS degree at uni but I want to go into Building Surveying instead so I'm struggling to find a role. Apprenticeship degree gets you in a much better position than uni graduates also because you have no debt and will have four odd years of experience by the time you get your degree. Uni's good for a pissup really.
@@dyezmordz6390 If that's the case then yeah uni is the way forward, it's not a bad experience but apprenticeship degree just puts you in a better position after you've completed the degree. Both are fine to be honest and the independence and confidence learned from student life is very beneficial too. But if you do the uni route, make sure you do a placement year in a Building Surveying firm. The year of experience on your CV will help massively when finding a job after you graduate.
Definitely do my friend! Surveyors diagnose defects in a building/living space which has a large varied impact on the people and their health. Especially damp which is seen as a silent killer which has many harmful characteristics and dont forget babies and elders are affected
Really good introduction. Helped me explain to my 7 year old what I do for a living. The doctor of buildings was a great analogy

One about cost the other is the physical aspect of surveying
