    Just had the attachment control for right Joy stick stop working 2377 hours on my 289d. Thanks for the tutorial, I will dive into the right stick and check for chafing and ohm the thumb switch. I can hear the selector valve tripping when I press the button on left stick. I don't have any hydraulic movement to attachment on right stick... your thoughts?

    So I’m borrowing a buddy’s skiddy and he swears it doesn’t have rabbit mode🤦🏽 he replaced the joystick a while back and I’m pretty sure he was cheap and bought the one with just the horn button.
    Im looking around for a way to maybe add a side switch to activate 🐇 246 cat with all the stickers and lights indicating that it has it .
    It’s the weekend and I just came across some info about this and wasn’t waiting till weekday

      You should be able to find a wire diagram for the plug that goes to the joystick. It is probably just one wire that gets pulled down to ground.

      Most of them dont have it. They use the same joysticks in all the d series machines. Most do not have that mode.

    I got this code saying left joystick not getting base message. How can I test if my left joystick is working or not? Can I swap right joystick with the left one?

      Do you have a unit with a screen in it? I am assuming you do if you get that error message. You can go into the diagnostics menu and show the control outputs in real time. Should show you X and Y positions as well as button presses I think? If you email me (you have to go to the about section to get the e-mail as TH-cam will strip it out) I can give you some of the troubleshooting steps in the manual.

      On the service section, I got two errors:
      1. Left Joystick Base Message Failure
      2. Left Joystick Grip message Failure
      My bobcat's model is s62, year 2022.
      where can I see the control outputs? please let me know the troubleshooting steps.

      @@Jing2010a Oh, this is a newer model. I would think that would be covered by warranty!
      I would head over to the heavy equipment forums and make a new post under the skid steer section.

    I am here because of a 2476-3 (faults out when bumped to the left)code, which led me to an old forum post where people suggested to buy a new base, look at a document to clear the code behind a paywall, then it was too old to access or to take it apart and clean it. So here we are.
    In your experience, does simply cleaning it like this fix anything related to my dilemma, or it not, can you recommend how I find out?

    • @MakersAcres
      @MakersAcres  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, that is a tricky question. I found some wires in mine that were about ready to start shorting out because of wear. You could have a situation like that. These controllers have a solid state base with a magnet over them to get position. I am not sure what yours has in it. Doing some research, I found a post on the heavy equipment forums called "Help with CAT 259D LH Joystick error". There are a couple of troubleshooting procedures in PDF that should be able to help you. Let me know what you end up doing.

      @@MakersAcres Thank you for reading. That's what we are hoping for. Looking for some sort of a schematic to tell us where the sensor actually is as well. I found the same threads, but after registering, I don't have access to those pdfs. Maybe my membership is too new. I'll keep trying. The cheapest solution is definitely going to happen before major money is sunk into it

    • @MakersAcres
      @MakersAcres  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they are very smooth and no grinding now because I removed all the debris. You probably don’t need to do this if your seals are intact. Mine was torn, so I had no idea how long the controller was getting debris in it. I also found some wires that were getting cut up, so the preventive maintenance I did I would consider worth it as well.

    I keep getting a right joystick left/right position sensor voltage above normal.. the attachment will have no control unless i restart machine repeatedly.. cat says probably a joystick replacement, and new one for $1500 SMH

    • @MakersAcres
      @MakersAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes, that’s what sometimes sucks about CAT. They show an exploded parts diagram for the joystick, but they won’t sell any of those parts individually. You may want to double check the wires that run from your joystick back to the controller. Sometimes animals will chew on them. You might be able to swap joysticks and see if the problem follows the joystick or the wiring. I did notice a wear spot in the wires that run up to the buttons on mine and fixed that during the rebuild, so check that too. Let me know how it works out!

      Oh, very nice. 299D, or D2? I have 3600+ hours on it now. I bought it with 3400. When I was doing my research, it seemed these should go to 6000 hours no problem, especially if you maintain it. Thank you for your feedback! I am really glad you are enjoying the videos. I have about 60 more videos recorded about this 299, so slowly chewing through them and posting. So a lot more videos to come!

    I have a caterpillar with the same joysticks . .. I can't believe how badly the plastic on it deteriorates and only after a couple years . ( little over 2000 hours)
    Became sticky like rosin from a pine tree and gross to touch . I scraped it a few times just to find out that deterioration continues right away and is just a waste of time .
    impossible to use the skid without gloves .. black sod gets into your skin like crazy and can be removed only with vegetable oil .
    I went to the dealer asking for replacement plastic joysticks ..just the plastic shells ... they don't sell it as a separate part !!.. they wanted to sell the whole joysticks with mechanism and wires /harnesses for over $900 each plus california tax . !!
    That's how caterpillars treat customers .. selling chip decomposing plastics from 3rd world countries on professional heavy equipment and won't even replace this while it is dripping with probably toxic asfalt like tar . It should be RECALL !
    Does anybody know where I can purchase just the joystick handles aftermarket -- which have a good chance to be better than original factory ones ?
    That's only one issue out of 100 regarding skid steer caterpillar .. is beyond absurd what those designers did regarding access for service , safety ,escape if fire when boom is slightly lifted the door can't be removed ..one will fry in the cabin alive .
    When it gets to around 45 degrees .. say one side ran into the trench everything shot off .. and no start engine again .
    I was trapped once like that in the cabin , couldn't move the boom and remove the door ...that was the moment when I was thinking what would happen if fire would take place .Thankfully I have the phone on me and after half an hour my neighbor rescued me .

    • @MakersAcres
      @MakersAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! That would be scary to be trapped.
      I personally don’t know of anyone who sells just the handles. I was thinking I could 3D print some if I really needed to, but I haven’t needed to yet.
      You might want to go over to the heavy equipment forums and try asking there. There is a lot bigger audience on that site that are eager to help!

      The glass should pop out by turning the L shaped handles on the left. I have removed mine in seconds... I also have the sticky grips... I am considering covering them with shrink tube and then cut out for the trigger and buttons.

    • @robertjanev
      @robertjanev 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, same issue on my 2017 279D, solution is to get in there with scrapers, little screwdrivers etc… and scrape all the soft touch material off. It will take you an hour or so but it will come off to the bare plastic and be free of any tar like residue. You have to use some solvent like acetone to melt the rest off. I used a couple products like good off, acetone and it worked. Very common issue on a lot of switch gear even in the auto world. Google “sticky button fix” you’ll see Porsche and Ferrari aren’t immune either.
      New Cats have the hard plastic and don’t have the issue.
