  • Repairing a leaking joystick control valve on a 2011 Doosan Dx 255 LC excavator.
    hydraulic fluid was leaking past the O ring on the brass caps that plunge into the control valve allowing the machine to perform a hydraulic function.
    I was able to get the correct seal kit with new upper components allowing me to leave everything inside the control valve body alone and successfully re seal the control valve.
    I couldn't find a video on youtube referencing this repair so I figured I'd share.

    Tyler great video. I have a jcb 3cx advanced easy control. The left joystick periodically fails and I have nothing on the left joystick. I replaced the entire pilot control valve after seeing a solenoid sticking. My mechanic thought it was a failure in the joystick valve like the one your taking apart. Is it possible if something is stuck internally it would fail? Any help would be deeply appreciated

      @TylerBemis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I would say it's possible something has potentially failed in the lower portion of the joystick. Assuming all other controls are functioning when you are in digging mode and everything is functional when you are in loader mode you have isolated it to the joystick itself. I suggest giving JCB a call I bet they can connect you with someone in the shop that might be able to trouble shoot for you. I'm not sure on the cost to replace the entire assembly.

    I just did this same repair on my skid steer. After completing I lost forward drive and my left turn was really slow. Reverse and right turn we’re normal.

      if you search hydraulic joystick plunger caps you might be able to match up what you need. They come in different sizes depending on the manufacture of the joystick assembly.

    Did you have to replace the whole piece or could you have just replaced the o rings? I have a leaky left control that I need to tackle soon but can't find any information or parts for my machine

    • @TylerBemis
      @TylerBemis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can match up the size it's worth a try. I'm pretty sure my dealer did not itemize the assembly to that level of detail. If that doesn't work you can probably purchase a non-specific joystick and pilot control assembly would need to confirm thread size and type on your hydraulic hoses to hook up. A lot of these components are pretty standard across all makes and models for a specific year. Whats the machine your working on?

    • @Robc509
      @Robc509 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyler Bemis thanks for the reply. It's a kubota so I assume the parts must be around but I imported it and haven't seen this model here, although I would guess as you've said that a similar size kubota would have the same parts hopefully. I live out in the boonies and have no idea where my nearest kubota place is. I have skf within driving distance and they do all of the seals/o rings, nearing and belts anyone could ask for. I'll have a look online again and see if I can email with a kubota dealer

    • @TylerBemis
      @TylerBemis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robc509 If you decide to go through the Kubota dealership they probably won’t be able to match your part numbers since the machines imported but they should be able to work with the US market equivalent machine to get you what you need. I know people that have imported Doosan machines none of the numbers match but the parts are the same

    My pilot control was dumping my bucket and now it will not return and tends to stick in dump position with pressure, any idea whats happening? Thanks

    • @TylerBemis
      @TylerBemis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like the right plunger on the right joystick is getting stuck. Each plunger is spring loaded so if its binding and no longer springing back into position it could be causing inconsistent performance. What’s the make and year is the machine?

    Hey Tyler, thanks for the video.
    I’m working on a 2005 Takeuchi TL140, trying to replace the pilot control seals. I’ve got it down to the yoke/u-joint on the joystick.
    Any idea how do I get the u joint out ?
    Is it threaded?

    • @TylerBemis
      @TylerBemis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah specifically on that one everything you see can be unthreaded/ disassembled from the top down. In theory if you have enough room to work you can just leave it inside the machine connected to the feed lines. I chose to completely remove it to clean and inspect. If you are having trouble finding replacement parts the O-rings on the plungers is what is the failure point so if you can match them up you can just replace them instead of the whole plunger unit. In my case Doosan only specifies to the plunger unit not the O-ring.

      I'm also about to do this on my TL130. This question is for @ProfessionalHomeowner since you have a similar machine. I'm just wondering what your symptoms were on your machine. Mine seems to have a very sensitive curl function and it wanders at higher RPMs. I'm hoping this can solve the issue. Any help/tips would be appreciated.

    • @TylerBemis
      @TylerBemis  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just guessing but the sensitivity in the function may have to do with a hydraulic valve body that diverts the fluid to the specific function you are engaging. Could be something up with it. Are you noticing hydraulic fluid on/around the base of the control?

    • @Ratherbemilling
      @Ratherbemilling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WalnutsandWineberries I didn’t have any issues with controlling the function however hydraulic fluid was leaking badly… which slowed down the reaction time of the controls but they did not wonder or become sensitive.
      Have you done a hydraulic fluid flush?
      Also, be careful when your removing any of the lines, valves and plungers they are specific to each function. The orientation of the joystick is specific as well.
      Good luck.

    • @WalnutsandWineberries
      @WalnutsandWineberries ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TylerBemis I haven't disassembled it yet. I didn't notice anything when I did the initial oil change when I got the machine a while back. This helps though. I'll do a proper inspection and try to trace those lines back and inspect that area too. Thanks for getting back to me.
