- The Merry Widow (German: Die lustige Witwe) is an operetta by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Lehár. The librettists, Viktor Léon and Leo Stein, based the story - concerning a rich widow, and her countrymen's attempt to keep her money in the principality by finding her the right husband - on an 1861 comedy play, L'attaché d'ambassade (The Embassy Attaché) by Henri Meilhac.
The operetta has enjoyed extraordinary international success since its 1905 premiere in Vienna and continues to be frequently revived and recorded. Film and other adaptations have also been made. Well-known music from the score includes the "Vilja Song", "Da geh' ich zu Maxim" ("You'll Find Me at Maxim's"), and the "Merry Widow Waltz".

Primož... this is absolutely superb! It takes away my breath. I can only imagine how very proud you must feel at all that Ernestina has accomplished since you launched her career. And I can only imagine the beautiful direction that her career will go now. And I think it was absolutely wonderful that her friends in the Carmen manet choir accompanied her here. I know that you must be very proud of them as well.
And I noticed many familiar names on your production staff, including Jakob, now your assistant.

I've just discovered this lady. This clip has motivated me to follow her career up. Beautiful rendition of often sung song.
You have some "catching-up" to do, then, going back to when she began as a member of the Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra and Choruses when she was about 15 or 16, under tutelage of Primož Zevnik, who produced all of that orchestra's videos, as well as this one. You will see the beginnings of her career as a soloist with that chorus and, later, with the "Carmen manet" women's choir, who accompany her here. And I guarantee that you will love all of it. @tog hoath Dear friend. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Actually, I recorded her at Gimnazija Kranj Spring Concert in 2010. She was a preadolescent girl. It was the first time when she sang for my production. You can see her around 1:13. She has a solo. The concert was dedicated to family Avsenik and J. Strauss. Thanks to the internet and Zevnikov it is possible to prevent Vilja, in person of Ernestina, from disappearing. Hope to be able to see and hear her live, once these dire times are over.
