I graduated in '74. I hate that this school was torn down and not taken care of by the Birmingham School System and students. There are schools that are older such as Ramsey that are still used to this day. We of the first generation ( the 70's) took such pride in our school. Thank you so much for filming this for all the past students!
Apparently you did not read what I said. This was my school. I went there and it was not taken care of as the years went by. I assume you are a fan of the new school. Bigger is not always better. The newness will wear off and if it is treated like my school was it will be torn down one day, too. Look at Ramsey. It is taken care of and it much older than my Huffman High.
cathy smith okay so the Birmingham school system have lots of money you can not have young women's and men's in old schools like Huffman that could collapse eny time.IT wasn't the point they didn't take care of there school it was just super old.
Fred Williams super old would be Ramsey or Woodlawn. Apparently you are not familiar with the history of Huffman High School. The first graduating class was 1970. The other schools I mentioned had classes from the 1940's.
Thank you for posting this. I never would have thought I would be nostalgic for that old place, but had about 1000 memories flooding back to me in a little under under 7 minutes. I had 4 pretty awesome years there looking back. Class of 85!
What a bittersweet trip…your video brings back so many great memories. I graduated when the "paint was still wet" back in 1972; it was a beautiful school and we had the world by a string. Thanks for bringing back the exquisite pain of youthful memories!
Thanks for sharing. I attended in 1968 when only the first two pods were built. It was hard on everyone. We only had the sophomore and freshman class, no upper classes, no traditions, and all of us were from somewhere else: Woodlawn, Banks and Erwin. It held wonderful promise and opportunity which later came to be. My sister graduated in 1976 and by then is was a great school.
Wow - demolished eh? Golly! - fifty years flies by. I graduated in the second class - 1971. Good memories. Great friends. Awesome mentors; Mrs. Askew, Coach Crumpton, Coach English, Mrs. Drezek, Coach Plott. Interesting to see the place with trees. It used to be so barren when we were there. The curved hallways! Ha!! - still looks weird! Thanks for sharing this, Jason. Nice to see places where we took shape! Go Vikings!
Thanks Da'rrell, glad you liked it bud...wanted all of us to have something we could look back on. we each have memories tied into those walls...and pre-congratulations on your graduation in 2014
Just wanted to share with everyone, we all have our own memories tied to those buildings...even though the buildings are gone now... they still belong to us all
thank you for the video. I'm shocked and sad. I was class of 2000. I haven't lived in birmingham or visited much since then. Sooo many memories. The late nineties at that school were a power time in my life.
WOW! 22 years after graduating, my Al mater is being demolished...I have not lived in Birmingham in 22 years and I have missed so much. I am glad to see the new campus with all the upgrades but I am also sad to see all my memories being demolished with the buildings. Running across campus between all the buildings...All the fun in JROTC...I will definitely tour the new campus in September when I visit home again. Thanks for the video.
As a Graduate of Class 2014 I just want to say Thank-you this school was an amazing school, It held some fine people in it Generations, and because of the Alumni's that kept this School alive you guys but a label on Huffman as the most Striving in Academic, back then this school could have compared to Ramsay High school with no Problem so Thank and I hope to see more Generations to come! Da'rrell D. Williams C/O 2014
Nice video but we didn't. move into thus building until spring 1967.From Sept.1966 until then the first class went to the football stadium at Woodlawn High.
First Sergeant Reynolds, Bellamy, and Colonel Jackson, Ms. Aqueel, Ms. Sanders, Mrs. Bender-Williams.
Looked like it was in better shape than I remember. Seems like it could have been saved. Not to mention Food World!

Huffman has come a long way from the 60's. It has been almost 50 years, will there be a reunion?
Hey does anyone know if the tree we planted for Kathy Bedsole stayed? I'm assuming it is still there.
Thanks for sharing this! Lots of sweet memories at that place. I was class of '82. Go Viks!
