  • In this video I show what I did to keep my giant pumpkin plant alive when we had the chance of frost. It took dedication, but I knew if I lost the plant, I would potentially lose out on 200-300 additional pounds. I go through what I am fertilizing with this time of year and try to explain why I am giving each product. I don't have a fancy fertilizing system so show how I do my best with a watering can. I also give weight updates even though we are in "silent September", which is when some growers stop giving updates to throw off the competition.

I'm curious about the watering can. would a hose end sprayer save some effort? Your pumpkins look great

A hose end sprayer could potentially save me some effort. However, I don’t like to spray fertilizer on the leaves so might not work great for me.

@theturnerranchwi I see. I tried it and made sure to quickly rinse the leaves afterwards. There was a day or two where I forgot to rinse and burned a leaf or two. Anyway, great work

Looking really good!!!!!! I would leave those “crispy” leaves. Sometimes I think you start removing foliage it shock’s the plant and it goes into survival mode and slows the fruit. Just a theory. At this stage of the game let it ride. What date is your weigh off?

Was going to be October 12th, but changed my mind recently. Now planning to go to a weigh-off on September 28th.

Thank you! Just need to keep a close eye on them now to catch any issues while they are small.

Great video. I mix everything together , interesting about mixing them separately

@@ThePumpkinClub Thanks! I honestly don’t know what can/can’t be mixed together so typically do everything separate. With the Masterblend 4-18-38, its instructions say to use with Calcium Nitrate and Epsom Salt so that is why I mix those together. It also says to do it in a certain order and let each dissolve in between. I don’t even mix fungicides and insecticides together when I spray them. Probably creating more work for myself than needed.
