**LORE UPDATE** As of today, Phantom Arcade revealed in a recent twitch stream that, after week 5- Boyfriend and Girlfriend were playing GF’s old game- that being the dating sim- in her bedroom until Daddy Dearest pushes them into the game, thus leading to the events of week 6. It also appeared on a particular stream that Phantom is in the process of creating a cutscene for the start of week 6.
I’m sorry if I’m being annoying, but in the game files the sprite is called “spirit” which means it’s more likely the red thing is a ghost or phantom and not a demon.
From Phantom Arcade’s stream, the person who animates and makes most of the sprites: Apparently, how Boyfriend & Girlfriend got into the Hating Simulator is this: So, BF and GF was playing in GF’s house, and GF invites BF to play(or maybe something different kinda forgot) a game she usually plays, whihc is of course, the Dating Simulator. But, the Dad being an asshole, both trapped BF ans GF inside the game, how he did it is unknown. Coincidentally, the game is the same one the Dad put someone he “wasn’t that kind to” in the past, which is, of course, the Spirit. About the Senpai: Senpai was programmed to be loved, but when he lost the first song and wasn’t loved, his AI went whacked or something and that’s why his personality completely shifts in the second song. ok thats it bye lmao

Actually it was Daddy Dearest that transported them, I think he might not have taken into account Spirit breaking free of Senpai’s attempts to imprison him.

Theory: Senpai was originally Girlfriend’s boyfriend and had to rap battle the Dad, however they lost and as punishment he was somehow sent into an old computer game and glitched. That is why he had such a reaction to Girlfriend inside the game and why he was so pissed with Boyfriend. In the song “Senpai” he tries to think “Maybe this guy isn’t so bad” but when he loses he probably thinks” you aren’t fit for her” and the demon is the glitched part of him seeing as getting a real life person sucked into a video game probably has consequences. Now to talk about the “others” These “others” I theorize are the people in the background, and the reason they love Senpai so much is because he has managed to stay happy despite losing everything. Don’t believe me? Notice how basically every girl looks the same, perhaps that was programming, and maybe when Senpai (in thorns) said “And all of the others” maybe he wanted them free because they believed in him. Perhaps the reason he was so frightening was because the background characters were helping him. After all they seem to disappear in “Thorns” Plus the girls also seem to get irritated when Senpai gets irritated in “Roses” That is my theory and have a nice day. Edit: I have more potential info Notice Senpai’s awkward transformation before the dialogue in Thorns. It is seen that he shrinks down into another form before transforming into a glitch. Perhaps the other form is how he originally looked, as that’s entirely possible if my theory on the girls in the background is correct. Plus in Thorns we can hear a very quiet “hey” repeating itself. It’s obvious Senpai isn’t saying it so who is? I think once again the girls are. I’ve stated they might be helping him, and while the voice sounds masculine, we’ve never actually heard the girls speak, plus this is inside a video game, perhaps they either have the ability to adjust their voice, were just corrupted beyond recognition or were *cursed* by the dad and maybe mom to always sound masculine in a high school environment. And high school is brutal so it might be.
My theory is The girl was actually part of the senpai glitch (or feature) And he use it to scare boyfriend that he has alot of supporter But failed And then he use his final move and that is becoming the demon Maybe he already know how to activate the glitch so he use it as a final move to scare boyfriend
One of the things I noticed is that when you die in one of the other ones its that pixelated death screens, but.. When you die on thorns, it the normal death scene, implying that boy friend actually would die if he lost
I've been watching FNF videos where the boyfriend duels everyone else aside from Dad and Senpai and noticed something very interesting. The bar on the bottom of the screen basically shows who has the upper hand in the song duet, with both challengers having their own icons that are in , let's say neutral mood. Once the other character gets beaten down, be it the boyfriend or the opponent, the icon changes from it's neutral mood to "i'm screwed up" mode where you can see X's in their eyes that show that their ass is getting beaten. EVERY opponent AND the boyfriend have both these moods except three characters - Senpai, girlfriend (in the tutorial) and... Ya guessed it - Dad. Senpai is easily explainable, considering that his persona is pretty much fake and made-up. Girlfriend's is also easily explainable since she obviously likes the Boyfriend. But Dad doesn't have the "getting screwed" mood, and even if the boyfriend is beating him in the duet, his mood remains the same. I believe the dad sees something in the boyfriend, maybe himself when he was doing the exact same thing when he was trying to win over his girlfriend's mother. I do believe that the dad is actually pretty chill about the whole thing and just wants to have fun with the guy his daughter chose. Can't say the same about the mom since she DOES have the secondary "i'm getting screwed" mood when you're beating her. Funnily enough, in the Christmas week when you're fighting both Dad & Mom at the same time, their mood doesn't change when you're beating them, even the Mom's doesn't change. Pretty interesting... Edit: I also totally understand why Dad kicked Senpai into the dating sim - Senpai is probably the biggest bitch in sheep's clothing I've ever seen and would probably toy with the Girlfriend's feelings until he dumps her for someone else.
For me, the full lore is this: Daddy Dearest challenges BF to a rap battle, with the point of said rap battle to be his approval of BF. However, after Daddy Dearest was humiliated, he hires Pico to assassinate BF, but Pico didn't know who he was sent to kill. When he arrives at the location, Pico discovers that the person he was sent to kill was an old friend (possibly ex?) Instead of killing him, Pico wants to battle BF. After BF wins, Daddy Dearest tells Mom to battle him, and she does. BF once again wins, and after some time passes and BF is accepted into the family he passes out candy at GF's house. Skid and Pump show up after Monster told them to get GF. BF wins against Skid and Pump, then Monster battles them (scrapped for now.) A few weeks pass before Christmas comes around and Daddy Dearest and Mom battle BF again. After their 2 songs, Monster appears and scares off everyone else in the mall. BF wins again and BF and GF go to play one of GF's old dating simulators. Daddy Dearest pushes them into the game where they fight Senpai. After losing, Senpai gets annoyed and wants to kill BF. After losing again, Senpai unleashes the Spirit, which had known GF before and most likely lost to Daddy Dearest, or Dad just killed him.
The reson the bf and gf gets stuck is beacuse on a family meet up the gf n bf go to the gf room to play her fav dating sim (this level) and the dad for some unknown reson traps them both in.
Btw. The lore is that the Gf and Bf play a game together that the Gf used to play when she was little. I think the spirit was locked in the game after defeated by the dad. The gf and bf got sucked in the console upon staring up the game. That's what my research told me.
i apologize in advance that this may be long as heck and I may seem like I'm over-analyzing but I'll be questioning the decisions BF and GF made this week. This is making me question GF's motives and maybe BF's too a little bit. Its not like Senpai was able to directly challenge BF in their world since he's trapped in the game (Hell, he couldn't even contact them). This could only happen if BF and GF willingly went to the game to begin with. (There's no way they were forced to be there if it's all set up neatly and the fact that senpai was surprised to see GF). This may have started by BF wanting to play Video games with GF but the choice in game genre is weird. You'd think they start out with a Co-Op games or VS but no, a dating simulator is not a common game couples play. Senpai was able to make annoyed expressions where as BF stayed as cocky and undisturbed all throughout. This might mean that whatever BF stated in his first lines may have been insults made to be anger senpai to begin with... There doesn't seem to be any remorse by GF for senpai either suggesting if he really did try to ask her out before, she's giving him a second chance... What's weirder too is that senpai seems to be from and still stuck in the 90's or the early 2000's. (The Playstation game, the old school beat, the CRT TV, "Trapped in here for so long."). The shift in backgrounds from the perfect looking high school turning into a dilapidated abandoned school may have a deeper meaning but I don't know what that could be. (It may as well be senpai's spirit destroying and killing every NPC after being bored and this is what the game really looks like when turned off and when it turned on it went back to default settings). It's unknown whether this game was custom made for senpai's punishment or if the dad went out of his way to buy a dating simulator as a fitting punishment. It's also unknown whether who owns that PS1 to begin with, seeing as the dad and mom were pop stars they may have so much money to spare I assume they've bought every single console. It could be BF's PS1 if he was the first to suggest to play or GF's PS1 if she was the first one to suggest they play. The game alone though has to belong to GF which makes me think that the "others" may be trapped in their attic or basement. That's all the ponts I can extract from week, super excited to see what's next and see the "others"
Only just saw this, super interesting take! It was confirmed somewhere that the game is girlfriend's favourite dating simulator, so the spirit probably lured them in by taking the form of the senpai.
Another cool detail is the sound file of Senpai turning to soul. It is called in the game filles as "Senpai_dies" implying the fact that music can kill others if used correctly in the friday night funkin world, and bf can do it too if he wants to.
I think that this is set after week 5 and the dad thinks bf is worthy enough,I think he set a task for bf to finish that thing off after seeing him defeat lemonade man

Personal Head-Canon: The Girls in the background of Senpai and Roses are hiding other spirits who failed to beat daddy dearest Add-on to that: I feel like most of the trapped spirits would be Female.
So basically phantom arcade said that senpai is just a normal npc who’s getting mad since he isn’t getting any love in a dating game, and the reason on why the bf and the gf are trapped in the video game is because the father caught them playing it and trapped them in side of it
Well a theory I saw states that senpai was a random person Daddy Dearest drew in, trapping him in the console and being possessed by the spirit, as an attempt to escape the console. But since he failed at drawing the boyfriend in, he tries to posses him by changing into the spirit, but boyfriend makes a deal with him to free the others, since not many people show up there.
Maybe Senpai as a character was already in the game, but then when that evil spirit got trapped in it, it possessed him. Just a thought, since the small cutscene between Roses and Thorns looks less like a transformation and more like the spirit tearing out of Senpai's body (rather painfully, mind you). It's also possible that the spirit was already possessing Senpai when trapped in the game, and both Senpai and the demon were originally from the real world, or that Senpai was originally from the real world but then got trapped in the game and possessed once in the game. That would give an example of a person who had gotten trapped in the game like the spirit had said. Senpai could have done something that the girlfriend's dad didn't like, resulting in him being trapped. The spirit also could have been in possession of Senpai for so long, that he no longer considered him a "real person" as Senpai was his human puppet for such a long period of time, that if the spirit no longer possessed him Senpai would either die or cease to exist completely. But we could also roundabout to the first part of my theory, where Senpai was originally an existing character in the game that got possessed by the spirit when the spirit got trapped. There are a million things that all make sense. You just have to decide which is your favorite.
My Theory: The weeks are out of order, ESPECIALLY 4, 5, and 6. I believe week 6 happened, then week 4 and 5. Senpai had clearly been angered and released whatever was in him, and once BF beat him, he wanted revenge. He literally possessed a lemon and used some sort of power to be human-like. He found his way to the Mom and Dad, who clearly don’t like BF, and they had agreed to try and make him leave GF cause he was getting overwhelmed by trouble. If there is a week 7 coming, I believe it may contain more lore.
So after looking at the FNF Wiki, here’s what happened (you were pretty close): Apparently, Daddy Dearest forced what’s now known as Spirit in the game a long time ago, and he possessed the game’s programming. One day, while the Boyfriend and Girlfriend were hanging out, the Girlfriend found the game and decided to play it. Daddy Dearest shoves the two into the game as well. Senpai and the Boyfriend then sing for the next two songs, breaking character. From here on, the game explains what happened, so yeah. :/
My theory is that all Senpai wants is to get out of the game and take girlfriend with him, but Daddy Dearst tortured/made him miserable while Senpai tried to escape. (My theory btw)
More: Notice the girls? They made Senpai popular, except that's the game. They are duplicated, so maybe they are made only to make Senpai feel like he's “Happy” ? But, in Roses the girls sem to be irritated of BF beating him in Senpai. And in the end of Rose's the girls appeared to be irritated of Senpai losing so they left him. Senpai realized that the girls left him, leaving _him_ behind. Senpai gave up and went crazy that he broke into his demon form (Thorns).

And Dad wanted to protect GF and stop BF from grabbing him and dueling the “others” since they might do massive harm to her, expect her mother.

For me, the full lore is this: Daddy Dearest challenges BF to a rap battle, with the point of said rap battle to be his approval of BF. However, after Daddy Dearest was humiliated, he hires Pico to assassinate BF, but Pico didn't know who he was sent to kill. When he arrives at the location, Pico discovers that the person he was sent to kill was an old friend (possibly ex?) Instead of killing him, Pico wants to battle BF. After BF wins, Daddy Dearest tells Mom to battle him, and she does. BF once again wins, and after some time passes and BF is accepted into the family he passes out candy at GF's house. Skid and Pump show up after Monster told them to get GF. BF wins against Skid and Pump, then Monster battles them (scrapped for now.) A few weeks pass before Christmas comes around and Daddy Dearest and Mom battle BF again. After their 2 songs, Monster appears and scares off everyone else in the mall. BF wins again and BF and GF go to play one of GF's old dating simulators. Daddy Dearest pushes them into the game where they fight Senpai. After losing, Senpai gets annoyed and wants to kill BF. After losing again, Senpai unleashes the Spirit, which had known GF before and most likely lost to Daddy Dearest, or Dad just killed him.

The reson the bf and gf gets stuck is beacuse on a family meet up the gf n bf go to the gf room to play her fav dating sim (this level) and the dad for some unknown reson traps them both in.
Btw. The lore is that the Gf and Bf play a game together that the Gf used to play when she was little. I think the spirit was locked in the game after defeated by the dad. The gf and bf got sucked in the console upon staring up the game. That's what my research told me.
i apologize in advance that this may be long as heck and I may seem like I'm over-analyzing but I'll be questioning the decisions BF and GF made this week.
This is making me question GF's motives and maybe BF's too a little bit.
Its not like Senpai was able to directly challenge BF in their world since he's trapped in the game (Hell, he couldn't even contact them).
This could only happen if BF and GF willingly went to the game to begin with.
(There's no way they were forced to be there if it's all set up neatly and the fact that senpai was surprised to see GF).
This may have started by BF wanting to play Video games with GF but the choice in game genre is weird.
You'd think they start out with a Co-Op games or VS but no, a dating simulator is not a common game couples play.
Senpai was able to make annoyed expressions where as BF stayed as cocky and undisturbed all throughout.
This might mean that whatever BF stated in his first lines may have been insults made to be anger senpai to begin with...
There doesn't seem to be any remorse by GF for senpai either suggesting if he really did try to ask her out before, she's giving him a second chance...
What's weirder too is that senpai seems to be from and still stuck in the 90's or the early 2000's. (The Playstation game, the old school beat, the CRT TV, "Trapped in here for so long.").
The shift in backgrounds from the perfect looking high school turning into a dilapidated abandoned school may have a deeper meaning but I don't know what that could be.
(It may as well be senpai's spirit destroying and killing every NPC after being bored and this is what the game really looks like when turned off and when it turned on it went back to default settings).
It's unknown whether this game was custom made for senpai's punishment or if the dad went out of his way to buy a dating simulator as a fitting punishment.
It's also unknown whether who owns that PS1 to begin with, seeing as the dad and mom were pop stars they may have so much money to spare I assume they've bought every single console.
It could be BF's PS1 if he was the first to suggest to play or GF's PS1 if she was the first one to suggest they play.
The game alone though has to belong to GF which makes me think that the "others" may be trapped in their attic or basement.

Another cool detail is the sound file of Senpai turning to soul. It is called in the game filles as "Senpai_dies" implying the fact that music can kill others if used correctly in the friday night funkin world, and bf can do it too if he wants to.

I think BF and GF probably just wanted to play a retro game they found in GF home basement or something along those lines.
Well a theory I saw states that senpai was a random person Daddy Dearest drew in, trapping him in the console and being possessed by the spirit, as an attempt to escape the console. But since he failed at drawing the boyfriend in, he tries to posses him by changing into the spirit, but boyfriend makes a deal with him to free the others, since not many people show up there.
Maybe Senpai as a character was already in the game, but then when that evil spirit got trapped in it, it possessed him. Just a thought, since the small cutscene between Roses and Thorns looks less like a transformation and more like the spirit tearing out of Senpai's body (rather painfully, mind you). It's also possible that the spirit was already possessing Senpai when trapped in the game, and both Senpai and the demon were originally from the real world, or that Senpai was originally from the real world but then got trapped in the game and possessed once in the game. That would give an example of a person who had gotten trapped in the game like the spirit had said. Senpai could have done something that the girlfriend's dad didn't like, resulting in him being trapped. The spirit also could have been in possession of Senpai for so long, that he no longer considered him a "real person" as Senpai was his human puppet for such a long period of time, that if the spirit no longer possessed him Senpai would either die or cease to exist completely. But we could also roundabout to the first part of my theory, where Senpai was originally an existing character in the game that got possessed by the spirit when the spirit got trapped. There are a million things that all make sense. You just have to decide which is your favorite.

My Theory: The weeks are out of order, ESPECIALLY 4, 5, and 6.
I believe week 6 happened, then week 4 and 5. Senpai had clearly been angered and released whatever was in him, and once BF beat him, he wanted revenge. He literally possessed a lemon and used some sort of power to be human-like. He found his way to the Mom and Dad, who clearly don’t like BF, and they had agreed to try and make him leave GF cause he was getting overwhelmed by trouble.
If there is a week 7 coming, I believe it may contain more lore.

So after looking at the FNF Wiki, here’s what happened (you were pretty close):
Apparently, Daddy Dearest forced what’s now known as Spirit in the game a long time ago, and he possessed the game’s programming. One day, while the Boyfriend and Girlfriend were hanging out, the Girlfriend found the game and decided to play it. Daddy Dearest shoves the two into the game as well. Senpai and the Boyfriend then sing for the next two songs, breaking character. From here on, the game explains what happened, so yeah. :/

More: Notice the girls? They made Senpai popular, except that's the game. They are duplicated, so maybe they are made only to make Senpai feel like he's “Happy” ?
But, in Roses the girls sem to be irritated of BF beating him in Senpai. And in the end of Rose's the girls appeared to be irritated of Senpai losing so they left him. Senpai realized that the girls left him, leaving _him_ behind. Senpai gave up and went crazy that he broke into his demon form (Thorns).
Plot twist: senpai is someone who played persona 4 and got the "power"

Gf wanted to show bf a dating game she used to play but when it turned on some jumanji shit happens and now they’re in the dating game

I think Tortured Soul (Name might be wrong) is GF's Ex Boyfriend from a long time ago.
The “others” might have been the girls, that were lovestrucked with senpai, after all, why would you love a deformed *monster?* And when they magically disappeared, does that sound suspicious? Maybe they sunk into the ground, or somewhere off view, maybe in-front, cheering for the monster, Lemon Demon must have been one of the “others” as well, and how much of an obsession he has against the girlfriend, and how he has a lemon as a head, coincidentally am i right? And Dad wanted to protect GF and stop BF from grabbing him and dueling the “others” since they might do massive harm to her, expect her mother.
