The fact that he's toured with Linkin Park and Blink goes to show how well respected and how talented he is

it wasn't his original style, but he was a big rock listener, even before he discovered hip-hop, and stayed a big fan of it; IMO you can definitely see the influence, even in his earlier work

@@Spiritsmusicwa mgk did a cover of "swing life away" like 6 years ago. He also had some Punk/Rock-vibes on his album Bloom. "Let you go" is a good example of this.
He picked up a guitar for the first time like 5 or 6 years ago. Learned the drums to play Tommy Lee in a movie. Day 1 he was rap, but always loved this punk rock.
Its so rad to see him transition into it. He's really damn good with this style!
I never would have thought that in 2020 a rapper would be bringing life back to pop punk, but I’m living for it. I get Blink, Simple Plan, and A Day to Remember vibes from this song and his voice in the best ways.

This is the 3rd single off of his album coming out in September. There is 15 total songs on it. The whole album is pop punk and travis Barker produced every song.

His concerts are full on rock concerts, with a full 5 piece band and have been for a long time. So even when he is doing his rap music, there's a rock and roll element with the guitars and drums. He gives 1000% every performance.
Hey Shelly! Yeah I've seen some live vids of his from a few years ago and I've always dug that he played with a full band live. His drummer is really damn good.

The first band I thought of when I heard this song for the first time was Good Charlotte! I love that artists are bringing back this late 90s early 2000's styles of music!

I am so happy he's doing pop punk music, it's like his character Crash from SLC PUNK 2 (that and the OG movie are so good, MGK was in the second one) is coming to life. And Travis Barker just adds that seal of quality to it 👌🏻

Found you guys because of MGK, love your music. I was always into emo music growing up and through high school, but when I went to college and fell away from it. Tickets to my Downfall got me back into this genre and I am discovering (and rediscovering) so many bands because of it.

I enjoy your take on someone with his platform saying fuck it put a rock album out. He's talked in interviews about his label not really giving a shit about him anymore so he felt free to just do whatever he wants. It's great that THIS is what he wants. He's just vibing, man.

Most folks who aren't big fans of MGK, only know him as a rapper, but if you listen to any of his albums you'll findsongs with rock influence in the instrumentals. He has always played with a full band, covered Blink 182 songs at his shows, cited rock bands like Mötley Crüe as his influence (which is why when he starred in "The Dirt", it was so epic), etc.
In between by Beartooth would be an awesome song to react to as well. One of my top favorite heavy songs
Kells tried to do punk/rock a few times when he was younger but it never took off for him. But hip hop did and he had some fun with it. Now that he’s made some money and gotten close with his hero (Barker) he’s trying to get back to what he really wanted to do
Im so excited for this album man and i cant wait! i hate that when i go to play a 'rock' playlist on streaming platforms majority of the music is not rock. Like yea i like the music but its not what i want in a rock playlist.

Yeah when he was a preteen he was in a few punk bands. Then he moved to Cleveland where everyone was into rapping and he started rapping to fit in with his new friends.
