Thank you for this. Great memories from generation to generation. From speakeasy to the ballroom, the big band era and rock & roll. My dad was from Andover and met my mom who grew up in Lowell at a dance there; their romance evolved around swing dancing. They saw all the big bands there. They did not see Frank Sinatra there, sadly, I don't think he performed there. Believe me, they would have known. My dad sang in a quartet for a while. They swing danced everywhere, Salisbury Beach Ballroom, Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, and more down towards Boston. When I was barely fifteen I saw Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker as Cream. Ultimate Spinach opened, and they had a female bass player who was like 6 or 7 months pregnant. I kept thinking she must be getting tired, lols. Can't believe all these iconic bands played there in the sixties and seventies. I got to see many of them I missed at Woodstock. Listened to Led Zeppelin at the Hampton Casino. Cheap Trick was a force in the late 70's. I spent time at the beach in the summer so favored the Casino which is still alive with music I am happy to learn.

I don't know about the big band era.I do know Billie Holiday played there. I saw Cream there and the bands of the early 60's and 70's..Jimmy Hendrix and the Experience. A very cool place. The acoustics in there were awesome. The stage was elevated and was a halfshell design which was flooded with intense colored lights and psycadelic images were cast behind the bands and illuminated in the half shell. The dance floor and the vibe was fantastic.Met my first girlfriend there. Growing up in Lowell was preety cool not too far from Boston not too far from beach towns like Sallsberry Beach ,Mass and another cool place to see bands was the Hamptin Beach Casino in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire about 10 miles north of Sallsberry. Saw Jethro Tull, Mountain, Vanilla Fudge, Deep Purple. What a wicked blast those days were. They don't have anything like that anymore...

Was this the place that was called Mr C’s rock palace in the 70’s? I used to live across the street.

You grew up in Lowell before I did but still I agree you mentioned some important things close to the beaches close to Boston plus Lowell has his own little community so yeah I always enjoyed it I always thought it was perfectly suited

Right? It's a shame it was torn down, like all the movie houses in Lawrence and Lowell. The inside was beautifully crafted.
