www.houstonzoo.org These tiny twins are the newest addition to the pygmy marmoset family. You can see them in the rainforest of the Natural Encounters building at the Houston Zoo.
No, they do not need to be pets. We do not need more domesticated animals in the world. Colorado shelters are currently so full of cats and dogs that they're euthanizing on the spot. :( Not to mention most kill shelters all over being full. Adopt a cat or dog and spay and neuter and appreciate these cuties from afar.
Yes, they do need to be pets! Don't compare having a Marmoset to having a cat or a dog, its like comparing flying in a fighter jet to driving in traffic..
While primates (prosimians, monkeys, and apes) are thought of as cute and cuddly, they are inappropriate as pets. They can catch and transmit diseases, they all bite once they become adults, and many are endangered species. The best way to appreciate primates is to avoid encouraging the pet trade: visit them at the zoo or in the wild. Domesticated animals such as dogs and cats make good pets because they have been bred, many for thousands of years, to coexist with humans in a household setting.
@LFOMEGA How eloquent, I confess your honeyed words and indisputable arguments cause me to swoon. I declare I may faint clean away. I wonder who of us is really closed minded here.
This is the first time I ever posted anything on here so if my spelling sucks sorry it’s like 5.48. Here been on here all nite looking for a baby monkey Ter. Ter. Thanks
your statement is not entirely true. take for example a bred wolfs(an experiment done in russia or smthin) who were originally wild, fierce but after 4 generations they become domesticated and become friendly and not fierce and even their sharp teeth retrieved. but on the other hand a bred of domesticated dogs got unleashed to the wild, and the opposite happened. Sorry for not siting the source cuz i can't remember the name of the experiment but i read it on a science magazine.
kingofbuuwa actually with all due respect you are incorrect...wolves (nor any other wild animal) do not become domesticated in just 4 generations..they may experience some changes but you might want to look up what exactly becoming "domesticated" entails!
@houstonzoo Dogs and cats were once innocent wild creatures that were stolen from their natural habitats and forced to conform to human habits. You can't condemn the domestication of wild animals and then give examples of wild animals that have been domesticated. Stay consistent here.
If you keep one (and by one, I of course mean several) you should consider it a family member. Not a pet. If you respect it, it will know and it'll do the same. They aren't pets, but I can't imagine life without them. I like them more than most people I know.

I agree with you 100%!!! There are way too many beautiful cats and dogs in shelters across the country.
It's actually the daddy who looks after the babies :)
Don't feed after midnight,
keep away from water,
and you'll be all right.
THATS WHAT I CALL NATURES CUTIE!
@wildman912 The pygmy marmosets are getting a special treat of strawberry yogurt, which is what's on the end of the stick.

@@Uglipeanutz Well asshole, you obviously care that I don't care or you wouldn't have replied. Didn't have the brain power to realize that did you.
@@Uglipeanutz The point is you think nobody's view or opinion other than yours means anything. Thats called being an asshole which you obviously are.

god i love these animals i did a research paper on them it was so fascinating
If we can't have these guys as pets than we need to Genetically Engineer a creature that is equally as cute and tiny that would domesticate well.
