    I just learned about soap felting. Watching you makes me want to learn felting with or without the soap! :)

    Good tutorial. I watched a few and ended up coming back to this one. Unfortunately I don't have nylons so I have to do the first part differently but I appreciate seeing the needle felted part. Thanks

    Super Cute! !! I'm new to felting. I seem to recall someone had felted soap when I was a little girl and I just sat and stared at it. I was wondering how in the world did they make that. I was so intrigued

    I love how pretty these are but I’m honestly wondering how someone could spend so much time on this after half the bar of soap was used already during the “felting to the bar” process (which I find pretty wasteful) and the bar will only be able to be used for a short time with the pretty design on it. Do you throw this away after you’re done using the bar of soap? I don’t mean to be so negative but I’m amazed so much time and soap goes into this process.

      You really only lose the top layer of soap with this process, when you compare the bars before and after with the original they're about the same size. As you use the bar the felt becomes more and more felted, until you're left with a tiny ball of wool at the end. The felting process itself only takes about twenty minutes, which isn't that much time to invest in a craft that lasts for about as long as your typical bar of soap.

      In addition to what Rebecca Dedert said. Felting soap actually increases the likelihood the whole bar will be utilized. Most people throw away slivers of soap. Yo never have a sliver of soap left with a felted bar. To me this out weighs the small lost in water. P.S. you can use the water as liquid soap.

    Love your craft, thank you for sharing.
    When adding the design, is the soap totally dry? Or add when it is wet still?

      It should be mostly dry, but I needle felt even if damp. It all works out. :)

    Oh I remember the nightmare situation I had with these. My grandmother was gifted wool soaps a Long time ago. She knew I was intrigued by them so she learned how to make them for me and my kids. Well, I didn't see any longer lasting soap..and when they are getting well into several uses..they get so slimmy... one went into my drain and caused 4k worth of repairs.

    How deep into the soap do you needle felt? Does it ruin the needles?

    Great instruction, thanks for posting! Wondering if you can share link or tell me the brand of your needles from amazon? There are just so many options, it’s overwhelming!

      some needles a big stronger and thicker if you are going to join work. Some are very fine ,to finish a surface with minimal holes showing. For this work an average will do. But they do break if you are learning so get a few.

    Do more detailed designs stay on with time and use? I assume so, but it could just be decorative in that case.

    I imagine the answer is no .... but I will ask anyway 😰 Is it possible to do this with regular felt?

    • @SNIFNaturalSoapmaking
      @SNIFNaturalSoapmaking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't think so. :( The fibers wouldn't be able to cling to each other properly to keep the soap covered as felt is already "felted."

    Can this be made without using wool? I'm allergic and wondering if there is an alternative. Thanks!

    • @elizabethstarrlilly5746
      @elizabethstarrlilly5746 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s the lanolin you’re allergic to, you can try using a different type of wool, such as alpaca, rabbit fur, or musk ox wool aka qiviut (which is extremely expensive, so I wouldn’t recommend using it for your first felting project).

      I have no idea where I got my stencils. They were in my children art box and I know I never purchased them, they may have been given to us. Check out amazon maybe for some children's stencils?

      @marjoriepitzer4453 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I did and couldn't find them. The only sturdy ones I found were way too large to use in soap felting. Love your video! I got my Roving and needles yesterday and plan to take the plunge today. Wish me luck!!

      I love the sound of happy kids playing. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with noise and distractions in this very human life. It's nice to see that one can still get things done even when life doesn't stop for you.
