- Akira Suzumura is a happy-go-lucky, womanizing, and always broke private detective. While pursuing a case, he is unexpectedly bathed in the Crystal Power developed by the Special Service Agency, S.A.I.D.O.C., and obtains the power to “shine” and become Changérion. S.A.I.D.O.C., in an attempt to stop the invasion of Dark Zide, evil creatures from a dark dimension, try to enlist Akira to their cause. But they are constantly sent running around in circles by Akira, since he does not want to be the “Hero of Justice.” Then the Black Knight Gowzer, also known as Shogo Kuroiwa, appears. Kuroiwa abandons the doomed dark dimension to slowly and steadily rule the human world. What will happen in the battle between Dark Zide and Changérion?
Is anyone else feeling weird seeing this guy act all goofy and quirky after watching him be a psychopath in 'Kamen Rider Ryuki'? I'm not complaining, it's impressive how different he is going from Changerion to Kamen Rider Ohja.

Quite a few of toku actor got typecasted as villains after their protag debut
One of the oldest examples are susumu kurobe who played Hayata/Ultraman, after that wrapped up, almost all his toku gigs are evil mastermind/scientist roles
Another one would be Hassei Takano, who got a lot more antagonist role after his Ryuki gig
In Hollywood we got Mark Hamill, which doesnt really need much explanation
It's interesting how Hagino's character here was all optimistic and cheerful which mirrors most Heisei era Kamen Rider protagonists (minus the womanizing part) but when he finally became a part of the Kamen Rider franchise, he's all dark and homicidal. Hard to imagine rooting for this guy to save the world in mid 90's, only to later see him being gunned down by cops 7 years later.
And beat Ex-Aid (un- henshined, mind) with a pipe
Takashi Hagino is the best tokusatsu actor ,can play a protagonist hero as Akira and then super evil psychopath villain as Asakura Takeshi ,good job Sir

He's acting like his co-star, Takamasa Suga (Shinji Kido) in Kamen Rider Ryuki

fun fact Changerion, is one of the few toy line shows to be cancelled because of low rating and not because of its low toy sales like other cancelled toku shows.

Akira is a likeable fella, goofy and fun. Naturally, he gets the cool powers while the serious guy who wanted them goes "why him?". Also nice to learn that the "Change" was a pun all along with the word for Shining.

This is one of my favorite tokusatsu, everything in this is amazing.
I have a knock-off toy of this guy. Its him, the little claw weapon, and a halfway decent version of the transforming motorcycle. If it's still being sold out there at your better flea markets, the name on the card is "Hight Speed Man".
I'd like to see the actor reprise both roles, do a Changerion vs Ouja special
Sure hope to see more series like this that don't fit under the kamen rider, sentai or other formulaic category.
One of the greatest theme songs ever. This was on repeat play in my car 20 years ago. There is a very, very good English version as well. Fantastic!

back then, monster design had an effort in it and was fearsome at least. toku nowadays is really child friendly monster design
Monster design really depends on the series. Have you seen the Another Riders from Zi-O? Some of those things are terrifying.

Mano, eu não fazia ideia que essa série existia. Gostei bastante mas já tô triste por saber que ela foi encurtada por causa da baixa audiência.
@@vinystaff , de fato é uma série bem atípica, e isso deve ter "assustado" um pouco o público, assim como ocorreu com Metalder, que também foi encurtada pela baixa audiência na época. Mas muito do que se vê na forma narrativa dos primeiros Kamen Riders da Era Heisei já se encontra presente em Changéríon. É incrível ver uma série que foge do padrão como essa. Eu recomendo fortemente.

É bem possível, tinha muito brinquedo pirata baseado em personagens de séries não exibidas aqui que vinha da China nos anos 90 e 2000. Eu tive brinquedos do kamen rider kuuga sem ter a menor ideia do que era um kamen rider, na época.

@Manji Ranger Kiavala Not to mention in the 2000, Kamen Rider Kuuga also utilizing that style too. But Mirai Sentai Timeranger which aired at the same time as Kuuga, still did not use that style and still uses these old stuff.

This one my favourite show superhero year 2002 time i was still secondary school student. Every friday evening after finish school i hurried back home just want to watch this superhero that starts time 6.30 p.m.

Toei has so many Tokusatsu properties on they hand. Why not just make them all appeared on the more successful Tokusatsu properties on their hand. I mean just some random appearences from the less known Tokusatsu heroes on to the main stream one. For example, just throw Changerion for whatever reason it is to be appeared on Super Sentai or Kamen Rider just for maybe 1 or 2 episode. Just for fun of it.

They already do that bruh, Kyodain, Daitetsujin 17, Poitrine, Akumaizer 3, Zubat, Kikaider, Kikaider 01, kikaider from the reboot, the original inazuman and the other inazuman showed up in one way or another in Kamen Rider and multiple metal heroes have showed up in sentai.

Now I realise this toku series was made by Toei. I thought it was made by other companies.
I only get to watch a few episodes back in the day.
Changerion look more up-to-date than other famous tokusatsu from Toei like Super Sentai and Metal Heroes at the time. That is quite surprising.

Keep trying to get into sentai. Most of it is too goofy- definitely love the Kikaider anime but jesus the show is just too cheesy sometimes. Gotta be super stoned for it lol

Dulu nonton di indosiar, sore2 pulang ngaji, eh.. tau2 liat episode terakhir endingnya g jelas banget.. pas udah gede liat fakta kalo terpaksa di tamatkan karena rating rendah, sempat g nyangka juga. Menurut saya changerion itu tokusatsu yg unik, kostumnya seperti superhero barat, opening dan ending song nya bagus, dibawain sama Misa. Cerita juga memberikan nuansa baru, jarang ada tokusatsu 'pada era itu tentunya di tv Indonesia' yang memberikan serial tokusatsu serius tapi penuh komedi. Saya harap toei tidak hanya memproduksi serial kamen rider dan sentai saja, metal hero juga ayo dibangkitkan kembali.
