      Why isn’t harbor freight pushing their icon tool boxes for the holiday shopping season? They’re not even in stores anymore??
      I’ve noticed Home Depot and Lowe’s are loaded with deals on roll cabinets and double stacked tool boxes.

      I find it useful because I buy my consumables there blades nails various chemicals and of course I get early access to any clearance or as is items and with the $10 gift card it's $17 a year and I will save more than that on every parking lot sale however I agree that for the casual buyer who isn't buying very much throughout the year it's not worth it great video and keep those cameras rollin brotha

    I bought the inside track club membership a year ago and I won't do it again
    1. After a few months they stopped sending me the inside track club catalogue.
    2. They stop sending you the"regular" coupons like free tape measure with any purchase.
    3. You don't automatically get the inside track club pricing at the checkout counter when you give them your card, this really pisses me off because they stopped sending me coupons in the mail I have to search online for the coupons that I should be getting in the first place.
    It's deceptive to me because people who bought the membership may just assume they are getting the best price.
    4. The savings on the inside track club coupons aren't any different from the"regular" coupons.
    I definitely won't be renewing mine.

    thanks for bringing this up. I almost bought an ITC membership until I reviewed 2 months of itc coupons of stuff I wouldn't buy. People where I live must love wasting money because last time I went into Harbor Freight I used a coupon on everything that I bought. The supervisor told me hes never seen anybody use that many coupons in one visit I told him "That's what they're there for!"

      When I was there buying all that stuff man I literally used 15 to 20 coupons and of course a lot of them didnt scan so they had to manually punch them in lol. There was one cashier and i had 1 person behind me to start and 10 by the time i was done I know they was heated lol. But thats too much money to save not to use them. I would really like it if i could scan my card and it would automatically apply the best coupon and price for me then i probably would be interested. Thanks for stopping by again Matt.

    If you shop there regularly it is worth it. I had a purchase of a few hundred dollars and it paid for itself and saved me an additional $45 on a single purchase. This was an extra discount on top of what was already a bug sale / discounted offer.

    There is a pattern. Pretty much each coupon is 5 dollars off the item. So the one year is 30 bucks, minus the 10 dollar gift card. So if you buy more then 4 items in a year period then mathematically it’s worth it.

      Dude,its such a simple rip off.
      Here it is;
      After I started working there I bought a tool I needed for a stuck bolt. Cost: $5.99,regular price. 3 wks later I was working doing price changes. That tool went up from $5.99 to $10.99. Im not joking!A couple of months later ,Im looking at the new ITC poster; Boom! Same tool,reg price $10.99,ITC member pays $8.99! I started paying attention when doing price changes after that. Everything that went up a lot in pricing,would end up being an ITC item within 6 mos or so. Thats how they screw you. I also heard that the IRS doesnt tax a "club membership". So thats $30 a pop going right to the bank!
      They require the cashiers to sell a certain number every month or they are written up.

    I work at a HF. It's not worth it as long as you know you can find the coupons posted online. If it were 30 years ago and online coupons weren't a thing, then yes it would be worth it depending on how often you shopped there.
    My store does not ask every customer if they want to join, but that's going to depend on the manager.

    • @Cfomodz
      @Cfomodz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your honest and insider (get it) perspective. One question, since the inside track coupons are different than the ones currently being run online (although there is often overlap, there are definitely cases where the coupons online just don't have every good discount that the coupon book does) do you think it is ever worth it or 100% of the time it isn't worth it and you'll save the same amount of money buying the same items if you just use the online coupons?

    • @robertstephens1803
      @robertstephens1803 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Maybe not for the regular consumer But as a business owner, I average about $500 in purchases a week, with several items at checkout. Going through every coupon online is far from worth my time when they just discount my purchases immediately. I don’t have time for that, plus there are price’s only available to ITC members that don’t have a coupon for them. On one item purchased today I saved $15 and there was not a coupon available for it. I can also get the sale items 3 days earlier on parking lot sales where many discounted items sell out by the end of the sale, requiring me to drive across town to another store. That time is billable hours I’m losing on in my profession so $45 for two years saves me hundreds in that timeframe. Hours of coupon searching cost me a lot more than $45 over two years. Just my two cents

    • @darkdayzdawn4984

      It's definitely worth it if you get it at the right time. I got it for a 20% off cupon of any item no exclusions. Paid 45 dollars for 2 years and got 180 off a 900 dollar bottom cart. It paid for itself and I still saved another 135 plus I get the savings for the next 2 years. It's more than worth it if your making a big purchase.

    Harbor Freight saw your video, and comments, and made changes in 2020. No more 20% off or major coupons. I spoke to a regional manager recently and he informed me that HF is moving to full Inside Track coupons. They'll still offer some coupons to attract the masses. But the best coupons 30% off will be for Inside Track.

And for most customers making large purchases we apply discounts to get them the membership at no charge, so basically it's paying for itself before they even use it. • @dbadaddy7386

    The email coupons are useless because you can't print just the ones you want. I used the paper catalog as a planning tool. Had I known that the catalog was going to be discontinued, I would not have thrown my last one away in anticipation of the next one that never came. The lack of the paper catalog and having to print a dozen or more pages of email in order to get one coupon makes the Inside Track Club have no value to me. My shopping has gone from sometimes 6+ carts at a time (which I have done more than once) to less than a bucket, meaning my spending has gone from sometimes $3K+ a year to a few hundred, specifically because of the lack of the paper catalog and paper coupons. A Northern Tools is a little over an hour away, and I'm checking out other alternatives as well. I treated the catalog like old timers treated the Sears catalog, as a wish book (but without ending up in the outhouse). I'd cut out tool descriptions, tape them to a sheet, and place that in the tickler for the month of intended purchase. I would tape the coupons in rough order of the store layout, and as I put items in the cart, I'd fold the coupon to indicate at the register what products I'd obtained. That let me literally complete the checkout for over 6 cartloads of stuff in less time than the guy behind me took for less than one, and the sales clerks appreciated it. Apparently word went around to other stores, because when I checked out a new Harbor Freight about an hour away, the sales clerk who had never met me before saw my coupon sheets and said YOU'RE THE GUY! and called the other clerks over to see. I made their job a lot easier, and they appreciated it. Harbor Freight has decided to make my job a lot harder. The loss in purchases of a single trip is far, far more than the extra cost of the paper catalog. Harbor Freight's response has boiled down to "sucks to be you".

    I think you understand marketing but I don't think you understand the psychology of it. It's the idea, "Man, I'm getting a deal. " It's the searching through your coupons and looking at the "specials" that Inside Track club members get. That's what's fun. Also, you get a little rush knowing your are smarter and more desirable than these schmucks that aren't members of the Inside Track Club. Think about it. Do people go hunting deer most of the time because they're hungry? No. They usually spend more money than if they bought deer meat. It's the journey, not the destination.

    ITC membership shopping is like extremely couponing, I actually find it fun. I have found myself going more and more often. $40 off a mitersaw stand and $40 off a miter saw in the first week alone...let it go a few weeks..20% a single Ratchet for everyone..the one I wanted was $19.99. I waited...the next day they offered 30% off all items $20 or less for ITC members. Walked out with 4 items including my ratchet and saved $17. I think it's worth it. Especially if you aren't building houses with the stuff or using the tools daily. For an everyday person that just needs them here and there...save yourself some money and get the membership. I've spent $375 in about a month there. My total savings are over $175 already because I really research the sales

    With the Harbor Freight coupon database website you can often get much the same prices as the Inside Track club. The early early access is worth it only if you’re buying the toolboxes as they will let you pick them up a day early and you have a better chance of them being in stock. That being said, I’d just arrive first thing in the AM and get it the day of the sale.
    I’m not an Inside Track Club member.

  • @THA-REAPER
    @THA-REAPER 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Problem is people want things handed to them. Like anywhere else a coupon is not a sale. It's a deal. Somehow people always make these two the same thing when they are not. You don't have the coupon you miss the deal. Also how could a sale exist if everything rings up at the absolute lowest price they have to offer all the time? What would make you say I have to go there right now? Companies won't do that because those missed opportunities with coupons are what "helps" drive sales and make them money to keep the cycle going. Each store has a sales goal they need to meet each day. Portions of that goal goes to scheduling employees the amount of hours to work...to pay them, buying materials to keep up with the store's needs, services for the store, merchandise to receive again to sell.
    Of course they initially buy at a even lower price and upsell you to profit like anywhere else. If everything always defaulted to the lowest price, that would force other stores to lower their prices and it would be a battle of which store is getting closer to being bankrupt first because there's no profit margin. At Harbor Freight a on Parking lot sale or Black Friday weekend you will see things on sale with green tags. Those are sales. Anything else are mark ups going against coupon prices.
    Harbor Freight yes changes their prices often and often has multiple coupons for the same thing. However that forces you to be a smarter shopper there and that is part of what brings people in the store. You will save this much and you only have until exp date to act on it. Is a stop & shop card a scam because you never got a card and you're paying higher prices? Clearly it shows more than one price and one you need to be a stop & shop member to get those prices.
    Also real real soon the inside track card will give you the inside track coupons automatically just by scanning the card as a added incentive.

      Then harbor freight is false advertising every week by saying Giant Liquidation... Parking Lot Sale... 50 70 even 90 percent off.. I dont call them sales they do their marketing scheme is a sale so... and they only offer the coupon for so long so why not just make it that price for that long and be done with it? I dont need to bargain hunt I want to buy tools I go in a store buy my tools and leave I'm not a "shopper" or a "couponer" I am a man who wants to buy tools and that the end of it. I think if you buy tools all the time, it's going to save you money, and getting an advanced notice of a sale on a hot item, you have a better chance of getting the item before they sell out.

      I think the factor is that HF is already popular because they have cheap chinese junk. So they don't need a rewards program to draw loyalty. It would just hurt their bottom line. The point of the ITC is to draw more revenue in, basically the Costco business model. You have to pay to shop kind of thing.

  • @thomasleary1807
    @thomasleary1807 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The one potential advantage I see is early access to a parking lot sale. At the stores in my area I used to arrive early on Friday for parking lot sales and found some great discontinued product deals where they had 2 or 3 of the item available, which were typically gone within the first half hour or so of the sale. Those items won't be published in an advance circular, as every store will have a different amount and selection of clearance / discontinued inventory to choose from. My current job doesn't allow me to get to HF early on the first day of a parking lot sale, so who knows what I may have missed if I arrive at 5PM on Friday? The down side to early access is you will only know about the deals that are published in advance, so you may not see those "early bird" specials until the store is set up for the sale.

    So I pay 45 for two years. They give me 10 back in a gift card so I'm in for 35 for two years. That's like a buck and a half a month. If nothing else catches my eye I can always pick up one of those nuts & bolts or o-ring kits. Every month they throw a deal for ITC members on those geegaws and I'll be damned. They come in handy.
    So a few times a year I get 30% off coupons when non members get 20%. I bought a band saw using one of those and saved about four years of ITC dues from that extra 10 per cent on that one purchase. That was on the 7 x 12 machine which doesn't coupon.
    I bought two Vulcan machines when they first came out and saved real money with the ITC too.
    A buck and a half a month man. You just burned 10 minutes on a short draft or a half a gallon of hi test at the pump.
    If they were scamming us it would be easier and more profitable to just raise the prices one more penny to a round number and we would all pay it without batting an eye.

    Wouldn't be worth it for me. I buy specific items at HFT, albeit regularly: the 4.5" wire brushes for an angle grinder, the self-etching primer, Evaporust, sanding belts, gloves, metal polishing accessories, and an occasional light. I can count the tools I bought there on one hand: the Herc 7A angle grinder, the flexshaft grinder which is a bargain, a rotary tool, and the breaker bar. Can't think of anything else.

    There are a whole lot of people who buy at Harbor Freight that don’t know about coupons. That’s part of business plan. As an example: The businesses that do rebates count on and factor in a certain percentage of people NOT turning them in. It actually helps dictate the sale price. If everyone actually did turn in the rebate the price would go up.

    I went there yesterday to buy a set of wheel dollies. 64.99 for 2 1500 lb capacity wheel dollies. I noticed a a better set 3000 lb capacity for 79.99 but with the membership plan and the 10% off my first order I could have gotten them for about the same price and then I had the membership for free. Makes sense there but guess what happened when i took my items to the desk and proposed my plan after them telling me the details. I said ok, lets do it. I'll exchange this set for the 79.99 set. We go back to swap them and the better set was not in stock. Only the display pair. That didn't bother to much until I offered to take the display set and they said no.

    I just received their most recent ad with 20% off for members ( free membership) vs 25% off off inside track members. A difference of 5% off your purchase. At this rate, 5%X or converted ( .05x $30 membership cost ) or .05X = $30 then you need to purchase $600 yearly to cover the membership cost. I’m retired an don’t spend that much. If you anticipate purchasing more than $599 this year, and you actually end up purchasing that amount you may be correct in buying the membership.

    4 years ago? Maybe. It’s not now. I got a free set of drill bits that nearly paid for itself. The additional $50 off my press paid for it. And didn’t even have to use a coupon. I don’t have a card, it pops up automatically. So in savings from a press and free bits I’ve paid almost three years worth of ITC. Think I get an email about upcoming sales early, and get the pricing 3-4 days early which, hell I have to drive two hours to the two closest stores.

One may show item at a certain price and another may show it cheaper, or may just be better to use a 20% coupon. Have pretty much written them off unless it's something I can't do without. As far as early access to the parking lot sales....I guess the value of that is based on your local store. I saw a cheap tool box set missing one latch once at my local store. Other than that its the same items and same "sale" prices every time. That is the one and only time I ever saw an "open box" or "as is" item at one of these parking lot sales. For my store, either early access people are coming in and buying anything like that they might have put out, or they never have anything like that to begin with. You'd think I would at least see some "as is" items or floor models that don't sell well to begin with left over on occassion, but always nothing. The early access feature seems like a zero value for my store.

  • @836dmar

    A lot has changed since this video... for the worse! No coupons now as you wished - only specific sale item coupons. Haven’t been in well over a year. New, “name” brands that are more than Pittsburg but are also their brands with no history and are now no longer cheaper than other online options and even many tools at HD and Lowes. It’s the old housewife “on sale” trick - get you to buy something you didn’t think you needed and not what you went for. Even when coupons rarely come out they exclude tool boxes, jacks, welders, many tools like Icon, etc. So they have controlled what you choose for a while. Without a universal 20% coupon for what I DID go there for there is no benefit.
