As Reggie once said "When I'm at the plate, we have a man in scoring position". Sweetest looking swing in baseball history.

Reggie's swing was Beethoven's 5th symphony. Griffrey's was Hendrix's "Fire" Both powerful and majestic. Loved Strawberry's golf swing too.

    Nicest guy I ever met.
At a sushi place in California I was seated with my wife recently arrived from Brazil I knew nothing about baseball.
At my side a young girl and her dad were having dinner. Suddenly people started to ask for autographs for this gentleman.
He graciously sign a few and respectfully requested to be left alone.
Embarrassed to be seated by someone who’s evidently famous I asked: ..
“Sir I’m sorry but you’re evidently famous and I just want to know who are you. His answer “Mr. October”
Again, embarrassed I said: “My apologies but I’m not familiar with your nickname.”
He laughed and said.. “here have a sake with me my name is Reggie Jackson”.
We talked for the rest of the night and at the end he gave me his card and an autograph that I still keep as a memory of the time I met a legend.

I think famous people view these "autograph seekers" as using them and that they are not sincere, and that trying to get something that really doesn't mean that much to them (the autograph), but are getting something they can sell on the internet. Sadly most of the time, they are correct in thinking this way.

That one greatest stories I have ever read thanks. Although as a kid I used to go to A's games at the oakland coliseum. I had never met reggie nor even gotten his autograph. But in 1988, the year after he retired I finally got the opportunity to meet and speak with him. I was working at the oaks card club in Emeryville CA, a city that sits right between west and north oakland and reggie was in the bar area eating lunch. My boss alerted me to his presence. He was really nice and respectful to me and I told him how much I admired him and how great a player he was. But what's kinda funny is in 1995 I went to an east oakland theater to see the John singleton movie higher learning and rickey henderson was in attendance and my wife wanted his autograph and he reluctantly gave it to us but later he accused us of getting him started. " signing autographs ". Lol.

Reggie was my favorite player growing up in Oakland. I followed him the Orioles, Yanks, and Angels. I never missed an at-bat when his games were nationally televised or they played Oakland with TV coverage. I would literally check the TV every 15 minutes to see where he was in the cue. His at-bats were not to be missed. My best friend's mom got into an accident with Reggie and she hated him as he apparently was upset about her "driving like a woman". Reggie had a collection of fine cars which he loved. Reggie lost 3 houses in fires and a 4th fire gutted his garage with his pricless automobiles inside, too. He's suffered many tragedies. But he loved Oakland. And the east bay, in general.

      Agreed.
Live in Bay Area, and we loved all of those A's.
They fought among themselves because they were a Group of Alpha's.

well an oversized ego as Reggie had could be a detriment at times. He was definitely self centered and rubbed many of his teammates the wrong way. Several fought him--Mike Epstein, Bill North, Graig Nettles

I’ve been a Yankees fan for since I was a child in the 70’s and those teams that Reggie was on were better than any since. Reggie was “the final ingredient,” and it’s best hitter. But every single ingredient from Billy, Thurman, Guidry, Nettles, Rivers, etc. was important to their success. Reggie had a huge ego but he backed it up and we loved him in New York! Every little leaguer like myself wanted to be Reggie! When he left the Yankees I was devastated! I’ll never forget how sad I was and Steinbrenner immediately knew he f*ed up. Worst Steinbrenner move ever, letting him leave. Reggie was New York!

So first of all Gayle King is an awful interview and I felt was somewhat disrespectful to a LEGEND.
Also, he was an incredible player who certainly had his share of personal loss. I love him, always have.
I once adopted a dog from my locks shelter that had 90 minutes before he was to be put down. It took me a few days to get the right name...
I settled in Reggie cuz we adopted him in October. My 5 year old wanted the name him Candy. So we named him Reggie Candy which was appropriate too cuz Reg has his own candy bar.

People can say Reggie was this innocent guy and Billy Martin was so terrible. Billy didn’t like the showboating. Billy played with Mickey Mantle who is one of the best players of all time. He didn’t act that way. Reggie had a problem with keeping his big mouth shut. Multiple stories came out with him trashing Munson and others including the manager. If he would have just shut up and played ball none of that would have happened. Sorry.
