I loved your video! I'm doing my masters in medieval languages and fell in love with calligraphy during my paleography classes! We used the book you have and just wanted to let you know you are right on track!
Thank you so much! It’s so beautiful and fun I even wrote a Christmas letter using it. Lol I hope to be using it in more projects. (: I bought so much ink so I wouldn’t run out anytime soon!
To counter the textured paper (and most of the time except when you want to put dynamism on the stroke) you can slow down the tracing of each part of the letters and push more on your nib, to keep it from moving too much ! And the Angle of your nib is also super important to get the essence of the scripts! Just a few tip if they may help. Calligraphy is hard but very quickly very satisfying, so keep going you’re on a very nice start ! Nice to see new calligraphy lover :) And nice video too! 😉
Some people have squirrel moments. I think I just realized that I tend to have rabbit moments. I stumble across things, and before I know it I get carried away going down rabbit holes. I've been writing with fountain pens for years, and have dabbled with dip pens off an on over the years. I tried to get started with calligraphy a few times in the past, mostly before TH-cam was around. After stumbling across Solis Scriptorivm's medieval ink videos recently, I've been hearing the call of calligraphy. I kind of liked the two styles she covered in her videos, but not quite enough to try them. I do like some of the styles in the book featured in your videos. I ordered a used copy of the hardcover edition a little while ago. I might give one or more of the styles in it a try, along with the more modern copperplate calligraphy.
It’s really a beautiful art, and it’s super exciting that you are thinking about going back to dabbling in it again, while I like the historical medieval calligraphy I do think modern calligraphy is still really beautiful. Hopefully you can get back to it and you enjoy it more!

I don’t think that’s a dumb question, some nibs are smaller than others, and with pressure open slightly to make wider lines for example, so I imagine just different sizes. Hope that helps!
