  • Here we go again, another bollywood movie coming under the purview of the boycott campaign, completely missing out on the point the film is trying to achieve. #Darlings starring #aliabhatt that is available on #netflixindia also in supporting roles has #vijayvarma #shefalishah and #roshanmathew . This dark comedy from #bollywood really hit it out of the park with its layered messaging and effective comedy. I hope you like the Darlings Movie Review & Analysis

You are a hypocrite if u find one is adorable and one promotes DV and drug abuse..
Kabir Singh never justifies what he has done...it's his journey from a arrogant toxic man to a guy in the end.
Actually problem is with u that people like u look for msg in one to praise and look for reason to hate in other..😅

@@mrbme actually you're the hypocrite. Because the director of Kabir Singh who is also the director of the original Arjun Reddy has openly justified the abuse in the movie saying that physical violence in relationships is a sign of love. Also after the release of Kabir Singh there were crimes committed to people where criminals were inspired by Kabir Singh/arjun Reddy. No one speaks up for those victims. I'm not saying what's shown in Kabir Singh doesn't happens in real life because it does happens. But a happy ending where preeti ends up with Kabir doesn't happens in real life. Because in real life people were killed, drug n alcohol abuse was fantasized by youngsters n makers made crores of rupees out of it. Next time know some facts and use your brain (if you have one) before replying.

Firstly no one inspires from what shown on screen...if that's the case what if women take Alia as inspiration ignoring the msg which was given at end and following what she has done in movie in revenge??
No one said Kabir Singh isn't Toxic...it's his journey from being toxic angry man to the man he was at the end. What director said was abt that slap and he meant both ways..like even justifying Preethi slapping Arjun...which she did in the movie
Personally I also feel it's not right but that doesn't have anything to do with movie if u watch movie as a movie like those characters playing it just like u have seen Darlings.

    • @seemonjena659

I so agree with this viewpoint. The bottomline issue in our society is the exisiting gender stereotypes that are so ingrained in our daily lives that we don't question many things that should be unsettling for us. A woman is expected to be demure and a man is not expected to cry and ask for help because men are perceived to be emotionally stronger than women who are always rational and calculative about everything. Its unfortunate but it's the bitter truth that our society is yet to let go off of these mind boggling stereotypes.

@@kaze.14 You would not have written this had you known the reality. The journey from filing for a divorce and actually getting one is long as hell. The movie has aptly portrayed the kind of thoughts that goes on in the mind of a victim of domestic abuse. You feel like strangling the abuser but you cannot because of myriad reasons- societal pressures, parental expectations and most of the time because there is still a glimmer of hope that the abuser would change. The movie shows a reversal of roles- the victim becoming the abuser. Who knows what the victim might do when she is pushed to the limits of her patience. For Alia's character Badru her naivety came to an end when she lost her child.
Its not always easy to go up to a police station and report about domestic violence. Let me tell you a bit about the existing law. Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code that punishes domestic violence against women is a highly diluted provision because the police officers are instructed to conduct a preliminary investigation before venturing out to arrest the man or his family (Lalita Kumari v. State of Uttar Pradesh).

    • @seemonjena659
      @seemonjena659 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@kaze.14 I would give my answer to your reply in parts:-
      1. Firstly Muslim Talaq is the most difficult of divorce process amongst all the religions out there. There are different forms of Talaq. I would not be able to explain them all to you. Some of the forms of Talaq are so unreasonable and discriminatory that there is hardly any explanation as to why such a form of divorce even exists.
      2. You said that the movie is a rich person's perspective as to what goes in a lower middle class family. Let me tell you put of experience and I say this because I had been an intern in my state's women's commission. Its not that the domestic violence victims always have the same emotion to escape from the clutches of the perpetrator of DV. Many of them have expressed that they have a lot of pent up anger for the continuous abuse they have faced.
      3. Human mind is not so simple as you believe to be. You cannot generalize that all those victims of DV who do not want to retaliate back are the genuine ones and the others wanting to hurt their abusive partners are not. No one is a born criminal. Extreme circumstances have the capacity to push a person to do what he or she would never have thought to do ever.
      4. Finally yes I do agree that DV against any person (I repeat DV against any person irrespective of the gender) is wrong. If laws were stringent enough then people would never dream of taking laws into their hands. Unfortunately our laws are lax and awareness is still low. There is a reason why the DV Act, 2005 is still a gender specific law. I agree that it should be made gender neutral but no one can deny that DV is still largely a gender based crime.

Just finished watching Darlings and came here directly to see if Jammy's view and mine is on par and my oh my, how similar our thoughts were 😅 Zulfi's affection which was later revealed was funny af! And the dark result that was presented at the end around her mother was also short but beautifully precise. Most of all, the revelation of the Butcher's relation to the family was also a surprise bonus.

Just not finished watching it with my mother and we absolutely loved the film. Dark comedy is a very tricky genre to pull off but the writing and direction by Jasmeet K Reen is truly superb. A good director has the ability to speak a lot in their movies without dialogues so in this film as well lot of things are communicated through scene similarities and visuals. The humour was quite nice, the issue they picked of domestic violence is very important and the setting of the chawl looked very real and pretty "Gully Boy" like and well we have 2 same actors and the same dialogue writer and actor from the movie. The music by Vishal Bhardwaj perfectly added to the feel of the movie. And then the strongest quality of the film is undoubedtly the acting which was simply phenomenal whether it be the smaller roles or Roshan, Vijay, Alia and Shefali. Alia is my favourite and she just keeps on getting better with each and every project of hers. Roshan was really understated in his performance and so was Vijay Verma who was absolutely sensational in his tough role and Shefali Shah is a veteran and her acting has 0 strain in whatever she does and she was terrific in what she did
Overall if you consider yourself in mature audience and not mass audience you should definitely check this out

It fails as a dark comedy and neither does justice to the topic of domestic violence. I think the director simply lacked the maturity and skill to handle this topic and truly take it to the level of dark comedy. I wish I could get my wasted time back.

They go as far as to call a mediocre product like Pushpa or the recent Vikrant Rona, a masterpiece (atleast the latter was way more than the dumpster fire that was KGF 2) while ignoring decent projects like Attack, Dhaakad, Anek, or the OTT projects like GLJ, Grahan and now Darlings.
