  • Played this as a teen just out of school with the first semi-pro musical I had played in. Watch out for those cheesy tom fills as well.

That sounds rather amazing through SkullCandy Headphones! I also happen to love Theatrical Soundtracks rather a lot, and am a large fan of the Pit crew, being as it's an extremely complex route of timing, music, talent and darn right Theatricality! Think I'm gonna stick to Lighting and sound though!! :S

haha i would have never though those commercial brand of headphones would do this justice... Aw man, it's absolute magic when it all comes together. I don't ever do it just for the music. For me it's all about the involvement with the cast, crew and audience. I have never really thought about why i love playing musicals SO much, but I think you sum it up rather well right there with the theatricalness and complex teamwork of everyone being so good at what they do, all working together to bring something to magical to life. Wouldn't be the same if it wasn't the best company to work with in Perth as well. Where you from man? Cheers for the question.

What kind of drums do you have? Also how do you get your bass drum to have that awesome low tone but still be punch?

AEO Drums It's a shitty recording so it's amazing you hear that haha. It does sound pretty good in real life. To be honest i don't do anything special to it, it's actually this PDP mid-lowline level kit that for some magic reason sounds AMAZING. Thing is incredible for such a cheap kit. I will say though, Remo power stroke 3 are THE best batter heads you can get for a bass drum. Super punchy. Cheers man.

when you play live in the musical how does the audionce hear the drums over the other instruments because i cant see any microphones on the tom toms nd the rest

Hey dude! Thanks for the question. Sorry for late reply, as i only just saw that i had some comment settings configured incorrectly. For this musical, there was a set of overhead mics that you cant see in the video. That, an sm57 on the snare, and a kick mic usually do quite well, if there is also enough ACOUSTIC noise coming from the pit itself, which there was with me as i ain't hitting like a bitch here hahah. I even put perspex screens around me to try and quiten it down for musos around me (windplayers- bad ass whingers) . I also specifically noticed that those overheads picked up the toms REALY well. Cheers.
