The sound engineer was a genius on these early F&F videos. How could he make a live parking lot performance sound like a perfect studio session???
Everyone has their own channel like studio recording, recorded directly off the board. Tim would go thru the microphone tracks and mute them when not in use to eliminate most of the extraneous noise.

Had a medical procedure done today.....the anesthesiologist told me that the drugs to put me under were "happy drugs" and to think of something nice! I started counting backward from100 and made it to 98 before I went "lights out" for the approximately 20 minute procedure. What seemed like just a minute, the technician woke me up and asked what I dreamed of! I don't think I consciously thought about who or what to dream about, but.....It was MAGGIE AND THE FOXES AND FOSSILS singing WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL!!! Maybe that's why it seemed I was only out for a minute! He told me I had a big smile on my face when I woke up!!!!! Of course!!!!! Every time I listen to FOXES AND FOSSILS I get a big smile!!

Keith Whitley introduced this song to me, many years ago. Alison Krauss ensured me that there would be nobody else that could top the way she performed it, and I've listened many different artists try it. Then this video popped up in my suggestions, and I was completely blown away. Maggie takes it to yet another level, and it was this song that pulled me into the F&F rabbit hole.

John, I agree. I never thought that Keith's recording could be bettered. Alison's was different, with those subtle Union Station touches, and just as listenable. I give credit to the song and its writers for creating a masterpiece. To do this good a job live and outside is just such a pleasure to witness. F+F are in a class by themselves.
On one of the videos Tim says he had thought about naming the band ear candy because of the harmony between Sammie and Maggie.
Yes this is a wonderful performance. But Alison Krause is a different league.

This band is amazing but there is no need to crap on rap as a genre. Commercial music in general tends to be shallow and devoid of emotion/meaning. That's not exclusive to rap and in fact there is a lot of very heartfelt and genuine rap out there, even today.
But props to this band because they are freakin' amazing.

If I could time travel, I’d go back and be there to listen to this performance. Videos like this capture that one moment in time. They can’t be duplicated. People who were there, had no realization of how lucky they were, to witness this moment. The innocence, the purity… It all just works. Even 10 years later. It’s timeless. 😊👍❤️

Agreed. Sometimes wonderful events/performances pass by without much notice. Then we look back, as here, and find a new appreciation. It's a bit like a great painter - Van Gogh for example, who were not fully appreciated at the time but as we look back, we see that these are true gems of performance. Yes, I wish I'd been there. But nice that the recordings are still available.

I'm a Maggie addict. This song shows her incredibly clear voice similar to Allison Krauss except warmer.... wrapping my heart around her little finger. Ah if only I was young again... this lovely young woman stirs my feelings like when I was a teenager 50 years ago.

Keith Whitley may have had one of the purest country voices in the history of country music. An Elliott County KY boy who left this world way to soon. He would be proud of this harmonious rendition of one of his greatest songs.

Watched this again & showed it to my husband Gary. He was the chief engineer/mixer who recorded Keith Whitley's original version. Gary is a man of few words (and really misses Keith), but he was genuinely blown away by your performance. So glad to see y'all back making music again in 2020!

My personal definitive version was Alison Krauss's, but this performance by F&F is the one I listen to now when I want to hear "When You Say Nothing At All."
Whenever I need a lift, this pops up in my recommended and I am lost in her beautiful voice....and then the harmonies and the musicians just nail it....

No doubt one of Maggie`s best works. Going back to my Country days 20 years ago, I always thought the line "old Mr. Webster could never define, what`s being said between your heart and mine", was a very clever song lyric, such a beautiful song. And I can`t forget Sammie and Tim backing up Maggie, and all the rest of the Fossils, another job well done !!

I am a sound tech so I've heard a lot of music. Ask anyone I know and they'll tell you I rip modern music to shreds. This is the single most impressive recording I've heard in my life. I honestly thought I would never have a favorite song because I have spent my life training my ears to pickup the smallest imperfections. Today I was proved wrong. Thank you for making this recording!

I NOAH MANN - discovered this band’s version of harvest moon, hooked ever since, even though I was an avid Trance lover. My music intake is on overdrive, especially in the last few years. If a tune, no matter it’s genre, it’s worth listening to.

I have been a huge fan of Alison Krauss for 25 years. I believe this is Maggie singing, she has many of the same qualities in her voice, clarity, purity, and honesty in the way she presents the song. Definitely qualities that will carry her, and hopefully the band for many years to come. Great work by everyone.

Joe Boxter LOL I got into a feud with a guy about this on a different song. Mentioned they were equal and maybe better in some cases than Union Station and he went ballistic on me. I am also a big fan of Allison but since finding this group I have a hard time staying away. I am torn between Sam and Maggie. I lean towards Sam but love them both.

Yes - the girls sing beautifully... But the lead guitar is a real, seasoned, professional. Not flashy - just solid, pro, talented, background effort. He finishes every riff with every string. Sometimes you have to listen carefully to his work - but there are hidden gems all over it.

Maggie just gets better. What a great band. I am posting this in Nov 2019 after the released Harvest Moon. It really hard to describe how good this is . This is music how it should be. I wish I had lived there & been able to see these guys playing.
They do plan to play two live shows at the end of December 2022 in Tim and Darwin's home town of Hapeville, less than a mile from the Atlanta airport. Details will soon be available on a video.

Perfect performance. I love this song and it fits Maggie's voice perfectly. I think if it was released as a single it would be a big hit. And Maggie's beautiful smile could light up the darkest room. I listen to this at least once a day.

You folks are FANTASTIC, I'm a singer who went after his dream and travelled from Scotland to Nashville (1974) thinking I had it and folks wanted to hear it? We went around The Opry and the Opryland on the Sunday where I saw 16 year old kids with more talent in their little finger than I had, LoL! ...... I went home, respectfull of my craft and spent the rest of my life happy that I could still make money from my singing and I didn't need to pursue my dream, I just lived it "One Day at A Time" God Bless you all and Thanks for the Music!
