I did my service from 1990-1992. Mono intake. Back then was quite siong although can't compare with those that went thru during the 70s. On our last day of NS, all of us was very sad as we had formed the brotherhood thru tough times in the army. And now after so many years we are still in contact with each other. We would have gatherings regularly be it fishing, dinners or funerals, sometimes as many as 50 to 100 men. Yes, that bond is there.
just finished field camp. luckily my oc was very very very nice to us. he told our commanders not to tekan us before giving the letter. also our encik gave the entire company cold 100 plus on one of the nights
Haha I never really got well with my buddy at the start, we nearly fought. But throughout BMT, we managed to become quite close. Really glad to make many friends during my NS. Also, as a sentry I digress, I'd rather prowl man, school 4 guardroom got so many lizards :(
My bed buddy OOC to IMH. He really can't get used to regimental life, legit case. I had to help him break and clean his rifle, arrange his stuff in the locker and even tie his bootlaces & button his uniform. After lights out he'll go down to company line and pace back & forth anxiously. Dude was from NJC too. I was in a whitehorse company so kinda expected lepak BMT but end up I kena a lot of punishment from the sergeant cos i'm his bed buddy hahaha. Luckily, on the 2nd month of BMT the OC and CSM intervened. They interviewed our section and our sergeants about him. Eventually they ban him from live firing and grenade, then a week later send to IMH followed by OOC. The rest of my BMT was relaxed but then, they send me to 3rd Guards...
Good video, very accurate. Got lucky, caught covid twice during BMT, and was only there 6 weeks. Barely passed my IPPT and missed almost all SOCs and route march, though I made it to the outfield. For those who are aiming for OCS, no worries because I somehow ended up there. Keep pushing! ORD Lo!
Good luck to all those going in to start your Ns journey, know that you are doing your family, friends and country proud. As for me I have finally completed my 12year NS journey and in some ways I actually feel a sense of sadness…
Interesting video. My time I think was 11 or 12 weeks. Booking out is on Saturday afternoon. Booking in on Sunday night. No air con cruise. Travel on the military RPL. Then need to march from jetty into camp 3. Those in camp 1 were nearer to the jetty.
I served my BMT in the late 80s. (quite shiong during that time and back then the NCOs were still Corporals and not SGT) I remembered during our last book out heading to Tekong Jetty, before our POP to take place at Toa Payoh stadium on the following Monday, many of my platoon mates cried and hugged several of the NCOs. Quite an emotional moment. We used to hate them (the NCOs) during the BMT training period but don't know why during our last moments with them, we just felt very thankful to them. But it turned out it won't really my last moments with them because I saw quite a few of them at NTU 2.5 years later. Though they no longer knocked me down 20 liao 🤣
just to take note, the sequeunces for some of the high key events you experienced might not be the exact same as the one in the video, eg. live firing before field camp, as this somewhat depends on the higher ups in charge of planning the training program for the company
In 1972 when I underwent basic military training , I brought along a book by Edgar Snow titled Red Star Over China and life as a recruit became so much easier , compared to the Red Army’s epic long March of 371 days where only 8,000 survived out of 100,000 that began the walk starting in 16 October 1934 covering 6,000 miles . You need good books to inspire you ☺️
That's a great book indeed, the details of the red army soldiers' daily life shocked me. Didnt, expect them to have classes, sports and quite a lot of entertainment under that circumstance. It's fun reading it, especially when it reveals the true image of the red army from the perspective of a Westerner!
I know I missed out on a few things in BMT, but I could only fit so many things in 9 minutes! For those who have gone through BMT, do you guys think this is an accurate summary of it? For those who have not gone through BMT, do you guys have a better idea of it now? Feel free to share this video with friends, since I worked hard at it! Thanks!
I spent 70% of my NS in Tekong back in 2012-2014. As a recruit and posted back as a commander. All I can say is, this is very very well summarised! Other than missing out on SOC, everything is well and accurately covered. Must have taken you much effort to prepare this. Well done! More should be watching this!

Honestly for me, Prowler > Sentry. The GC didn't care about Prowler bringing phone during our prowling duty as long as no encik or bar/crab/star see us bring. Then at night, Prowler can lepak at the guard station at Tekong Highway or Selabin area & play game or listen to music cuz basically no one comes & goes around 12 - 6 AM.
I rmb in my bmt my commanders made my entire platoon do platoon fire movement during outfield before receiving our parents' letters. It was fun. most if not everyone enjoyed it. But because it wasnt the original plan for the "tekan before letter" our commanders got fucked by the sm and oc lol

Can get tekan but cant issue physical punishment. Then go kc2 they give out extra like oprah show haha. Fun times.

I went for 3 weeks until the company CO asked us what time we reveille. End up, he fuck the MSG up because it was not allowed us to fall in 10 mins from reveille time
Seriously you ask them to be a sentry? My NSF unit camp I once used to do 6 guard duties within 1 month all being sentry. You'd just rotting there at the gate past midnight questioning life. We had no radio, no smart phone, not even anyone around to talk to. Prowler is much better. Walking around with weight keep you awake since your heart is pumping. And best to mention, walk around naturally evaded the possibility of being turned out after midnight by some grumpy boss that you may ended up with on any day. On the downside though, I cannot speak for a lot of camps, espcially older ones. If you're on prowler duty be alerted. Some camps have "city legends" stories. I was able to make it through all these years safely. Tekong seemed ok with my batch's prowler route as I can't recall anything creepy. But many of my regular laojiao on mainland mentioned about stuff they experienced in many famouse old camps. But overall I still say its still worth the risk with prowlers. Worst case, you always got another guy with you together than a lone sentry.
Bruh Guard Duty at school 4 rabak ahahah. Either school 4 itself or Ammo dump. I kena 24hr duty at ammo dump. Legit in the middle of nowhere alone with my buddy.😂😂
