If you can set up the camera at the end of the spillway so that it's facing the direction he's swimming, you may be able to see where he's taking the trees.

I have to agree. I would try to move the camera that had the pictures of the beaver dragging branches into the water. Position it so that you can see where he is dragging the branches to .

Daniel, after seeing what Chad doss at Adler Farms went through with beavers tearing up his dam at his pond. He ended up having to bulldoze out his dam because they had established a den system for years on his pond dam. It was full of similar holes like what you're looking at now with your son Houston. Each one of those holes went in to an old den. He only had two beavers there( that he eliminated.) But, they had been going back and forth between his property and an adjacent properties pond. He's found their path, have them on video walking back and forth between the two.
He now has a new pond dug, the gentleman working for him put in a new dam for the pond. And no more beavers.

Hi Daniel! Here in Iowa our high today was -8F. As I type this the temp has changed to -12F. "Feels like" temp is -39F. Our water pipes froze the other day too. We are not going to get any temps above freezing until Wednesday the 28th. We are going to have a white Christmas though. 🙃I guess that is a silver or rather a white lining. If you don't want the beavers to eat your oak trees, the Beaver Institute suggests you put some kind of wire fencing around them to keep the beavers from chewing them down. That beaver is stock piling small branches to eat when his den opening is below water and if it gets cold enough to freeze the top of the water. Then they have a stock pile of food. Take care! Blessings!

I also follow on YT a guy (Post10) who removes beaver dams/clogs from culvert pipes, and he educates his viewers on beaver behaviors as he opens the culverts back up (usually due to roads flooding nearby). He said in a video recently that beavers will bury/submerge trees and branches in their pond bottoms for their winter food supply. So that's probably what that beaver you saw on your trail camera was doing.

He took a large inter tube cut it in half then split it down the middle, wrapped it around the pipe overlapping it then put some large clamps over that. Still drive by that pond on the occasion as far as I know that patch is still working. As far as the beaver maybe a collaboration between Houston and @Grow Jack Outdoors doing some trapping together.

You might want to try 3M 5200 marine sealant. It works on metal. . It chemically reacts with moisture to provide strong, flexible bonds above or below the waterline .It's made for boats but that stuff is super strong and works great.. Or maybe try a pond sealant. Have a very Merry Christmas.

I have dealt with beavers on my property and in my 6 acre fish pond. They almost ruined the dam, burrowing into it. Other parts of my property in some ditches that holds water they will go below the water level and burrow into the bank for a shelter. When they stay over a long period and reproduce they are hard to eliminate. I used the connie bear # 300 traps to eliminate and control them. Good luck and merry christmas.

Beavers are so industrious. Have to learn to coexist with them as they deserve a living environment as well.

  • @LegendHold1
    @LegendHold1 ปีที่แล้ว +18

Hi Daniel, the beavers are taking some of the branches and sticks down to the bottom of the water (pond or spillway) and stuffing them in the bottom. That's what they use for winter food (it's like a beaver garden under the water) and to allow them to eat and not get out of the water where it's not safe. Beavers will always go to the sound of running water to dam it up. So eventually if you want to trap them, break up that small dam they have until the water is running over it and they will come to stop it up and you can get them. They will wreck your pond and their poo will contaminate the water too.

Wow those beavers have gone to town on your trees. I knew he had to be good sized considering the number of tree's he's chewed up. There has to be more than one. And that Bob Cat is a beauty. Enjoy your videos and hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! As Houston would say, "See you on the next one! Peace!"

Those beaver can be a real pain. When we lived in a small country town, my dad found a beaver dam in the creek behind our house. A few pieces looked familiar, as they had managed to steal some of my wood siding off my house and shed.

Hi Danial and DJ, Regarding the Beaver problem. In our part of the woods in British Columbia, Canada My Husband trapped and hunted foe Beaver for the government of BC. (we were being flooded out by them). As a trapper he took apart all manner of homes that beaver live in, and looking at your photos, we were sure that you had "bank" beaver (with their homes in the banks. He shovelled them out, a very big job. Your excavator would do the job well if you need to get rid of the beaver. Good luck..

Looks like you have a large family of Beaver! If it were my issue, I would do some trapping and get rid the entire family before they set up Condos. There is no such thing of just one Beaver.

Maybe you can build a small dam around your spillway, then use your little pump to pump the water out. To get to the joints and put some tar like substance on the leaks. Y'all stay safe and warm!

Hey Daniel, we used to use Cinders to stop leaks on flood gates were I worked. These are burnt coal left overs. EPA said no more due to metals in navigation waters. You could also duct tape towels for short term leaks.

Years ago, Va Tech students(I think) came up with a resolution to Beavers that worked on a swamp drainage near my farm in Virginia. They built a box with cattle panels with the culvert sticking into the box. It prohibited anything blocking the culvert and when we had a large storm drainage, it would wash most off the debris of the cage. I believe they used one on either side to keep both openings free.
Be careful, a friend had a tree mounted trail cam on a tree that a beaver wanted. When he found the camera, it had a full video of the theft.

Take some sticks and crisscross them at the entrance and if they are disturbed then you know it’s active.

Bank dens! You need to check your pond also. You can seal your pipe with flex seal paste. Those bank dens will be about 24inc under water most of the time. good luck😁👍

That was a really pretty bobcat. And I've never known of beavers not being a problem..I'd nip that in the bud just to be sure and save ya from a potential headache later. Stay warm!!

Guessing? The buck was dodging the coyotes. Saw a TH-cam a while back where they got a camera into the beaver lodge and showed babies. Very cool.
