Thank you for accidentally coming across my video. Yes, I sang this live at a wedding but it is recording with the studio track that I did with choir. To those who said I am a no name, it's true, except for those that know me 😀. Anyway, glad you enjoyed.

Gavi, I've never heard of you before but I'd never call you or anyone else a no-name. You have a wonderful voice and a lot of talent, and I hope that this exposure leads to even more success for you!! ( I'm not really trying to be negative against anyone who used the word no-name, I'm sure it wasn't intended to hurt your feelings, I just feel like it's good to correct any negativity. As always, 👍 if you agree). A Guten erev shabbos!

Yossi and Avi Piamenta were brothers Who were rockers in the70s style.... guitar and flute (think Jethro Tull). When they became orthodox they revolutionized Jewish music, Especially live performance. Yossi was known as the Jewish Hendrix ( If I remember correctly when he died in 2015 The New York Times ran a story on him). He was devoutly Orthodox, like his brother
; from what I read he was very well regarded in the New York music scene among musicians, Often playing club gigs for a largely non-Jewish and definitely non-Orthodox clientele. Their fame was not as vocalists or composers, although they sang and composed as well. Their "Asher Bora" Is a cover of the song I come from the land down under. I'm not sure that you would find a great representation of what really made them great online. When they played at the type of Jewish music concert which was really a fundraiser for charity, They may have been professionally filmed but their playing would be much more restrained for the crowd. Their studio recordings were much better and actually great I don't know if there were any accompanying videos. Far far better than their studio work were their live performances at the kind of venue where there was unlikely to be a good quality recording, like smaller concerts, clubs, etc. Either one of them (well, especially Yossi, the guitarist) could do an 8 minute solo where the crowd was just mesmerized.... Not the kind of thing that they ever really released on CD..... the studio recording if asher bara gives a taste of that at the end. I saw Yossi when he came to visit a camp I was working at (for kids dealing with illness) and he was spectacular. Played off the energy off the room, the kind of thing that actually couldn't transfer to any studio recordings. Asher Bora was playable at weddings and therefore led to a lot more fame, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't call it their best.... but it IS worth listening to...

Was so nice! Just discovered another singer, to your credit. Loving this channel.
Orthodox Jewish weddings tend to have the women and men split, even during the ceremony they don't mingle. Usually there's a partition between the men's and women's sections, but they are in the same hall.

Customs vary in the different circles but at weddings (like all other gatherings) men and women will be separate besides for two specific part towards the beginning of the wedding in which the customs surrounding the actual marriage ceremony take place. This video is later in the wedding during the the celebration as you said, and the bride would be dancing with the women separately.
Not sure who this guy is though he has a nice voice 👍

In religious Jewish culture there is a general separation of genders. So women are in the same hall but there is a divider between genders. This separation gives this culture a unique quality because women only associate with women, and men with men, except for their spouses, siblings, and parents. So it's like men are in men's club, and women at women's club. One of the benefits is that this encourages greater fellowship and freedom within each gender.
Not only this, each gender has their own specific social responsibilities that don't cross this boundary, so a woman's day looks completely different than a man's day.

The lyrics are taken from one of the seven celebratory blessings made at the wedding and for 7 days after at special feasts made in honor of the bride and groom.
Here is the full English text of the blessing:
Blessed are You, L-rd our G‑d, King of the universe, who created joy and happiness, groom and bride, gladness, jubilation, cheer and delight, love, friendship, harmony and fellowship. L-rd our G‑d, let there speedily be heard in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem the sound of joy and the sound of happiness, the sound of a groom and the sound of a bride, the sound of exultation of grooms from under their chupah, and youths from their joyous banquets. Blessed are You L-rd, who gladdens the groom with the bride.

Asher Bara: In Hebrew, the word "אשר" has the r-sound in the letter that looks like n r
Meaning: "which was created". It's part of a bigger phrase having to do with creation in the context of marriage.

1:20 - She's probably not dancing with the men. The men aren't looking at the women dancing, but it could be that is looking for a male family member of her's there.
Note, during Corona, there as a separate hall for the women in Lakewood. But generally, there is a separation using a portable wall (wall with wheels) where it can be moved. Sometimes, it's less mobile.

Taken from the sixth of the seven blessings reviewed under the canopy as part of a Jewish wedding:
[Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe,]
Who has created joy and gladness, groom and bride, delight, exultation, happiness, jubilation, love and brotherhood, and peace and friendship.

The prayer that this is based on is used at Jewish weddings. The reason why many words rhyme is because many use female conjugations. In fact, many of them are now Hebrew names for girls.

Whoever suggested "asher bara" without specifying an artist is a numbskull. There are at least ten different songs by that's name.
However I suspect they meant the one by Piamenta, which is not really worth checking out because it's not actually Jewish music. It's an Australian song with the words changed.

Glad to hear. Btw, a suggestion on pronunciation: just read the names and Hebrew song titles as if they were English. For many letters, such as R and H and the vowel sounds, you pronounce them with non-English sounds, and this is actually results in it sounding even less accurate.

it depends on how religious you are. (although that isn't actually true because verbatim you don't have to eat and stuff like that in separate spaces at all its just something extra some groups do) but for the most part its just the dancing that is separated because men aren't allowed to see women dancing, but we are allowed to see the men, same for singing.
