- No. 10 Alabama defeats South Florida, 17-3, on the road during Week 3 of the 2023 college football season. QB Tyler Buchner, who replaced previous Crimson Tide starter Jalen Milroe, was replaced in the second quarter by Ty Simpson after competing 5-of-14 passes for 34 YDS. Simpson would connect on 5-of-9 attempts for 73 YDS and score a rushing touchdown late in the game.

There are not enough words to describe how horrendously bad this team played. You would think, after getting called out the past couple of weeks, that the team would come out with something to prove. They came out and proved they are horrible. That offensive line that is touted as being bigger than NFL teams are the worst part of a bad team. Can't pass protect, can't run block. Pathetic

Even though bama "pulled away" in the second half, I'm still proud of my bulls... this was a win for us. Both offenses struggled, sure, but the defense made alabama earn every yard. The old bulls regimes would have just laid down and let them pound us to death. Big guys up front battled their hearts out, line of scrimmage was contested for most of the game. Hopefully USF can build off of this and get back to some winning seasons. The last couple of years have been abysmal.

This has got to be the weakest showing in an Alabama win I've seen in my life. Even though you benched Milroe, it's not like your 2nd/3rd string was going to bring anything different. They were basically worse with barely any threat of the option run. Their RB's and Defense was great all through. Might as well go back to Milroe and if it comes to it, cut your losses and reset for next year.

I don't think this is a championship team, but it's still too early to say. Gotta lot of improvement to make to get in that category, but there is time. Being at the game, The USF defense shut down Bama practically all game. Crowd was lit in the student section. The coaching decision for USF on 4th down was abysmal to say the least. Missed several opportunities to hit FGs and extend the lead

They were never in a position to extend that 3 point lead...They missed a 4th down at midfield (not in FG range). They missed a 4th down at the 35 (again 51 yard FG range. Not your kickers range). They could have cut the lead to 10-6 in the 2nd half when they went for it on 4th and 2 at the 21. But remember they only had 3 points to begin with because of a muffed punt by Alabama. They only got inside the Alabama 30 1 time all game Offensively when a turnover didn't help them. SO I am confused about your comment about extending a lead.

As much as I hate to say it, byrum brown is a terrible QB. His decision making left some things to be desired and he has no control over his throws. We really should consider swapping him out into a different position and find a new starting QB

And sorry, but RGIII doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to Milroe, he said Milroe was their best, yeah maybe most athletic and biggest arm being a better word for it., but when the 4th quarter came around, the Alabama O-line finally started shifting the USF defense and was getting time for Simpson to throw. He'd take his 3-4 step drops and then get another 2-3 seconds and get rid of it. They gotta work on that for Ole Miss or otherwise it will be another upset win.

Alabama was favored by 15 but got kicked around all game by a South Florida team who showed the country that they wanted it more. The Tide had to catch several breaks in the second half in order to avoid getting beat. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

@@dedric8146 I think Saban is fine, but this new era of transfer portals allows a QB out of HS to be a starter and develop elsewhere, rather than be a third backup. Arch Manning comes to mind here who's talent is being wasted. Saban just doesn't have a QB to lead the team. Indecision affects everybody. This should have been figured out earlier.

He was awful, since when has 73 yards been considered a good job. I see your standards are low , if Byrce Young threw for 73 yards last year early you would have been calling for him to get benched.

17-3 is pretty dang good. Didn't do great offensively, and gave up a lot of sacks, 4 on Ty Simpson alone, but I feel he is their best option at QB. Let him do his thing, make the offensive line run laps and make them understand their jobs and doing their assignments well. They got a week to prep well for Ole Miss. If they don't come prepared, Ole Miss just might upset them again.

Now Saban will probably go back to Milrose, but Milrose's confidence has been shaken and who knows how that will affect his performance in the next game. There was no need to change the QB since Milrose's stats were decent. Saban panicked.

Feels like Bama got caught with their pants down, like they're in spring football form and wasn't expecting the season to start yet or something.
They still won in the end, and put their foot down when it mattered.
Their defense was amazing too, only held South Florida to 3 points the entire game. And out the game away with that late TD off the INT (which was a horrible throw BTW especially on only first down in double coverage)

Only way Alabama wins is if they control the game from the beginning and get out to a wide lead. Don't see it happening, but it could. I also could see Ty Simpson going for 300 yards if he feels more comfortable. He just looked like he wasn't trusting himself there at times. I can see why when your own line sucks.

With how the oline can’t block, no wonder the qbs are struggling and the receivers can’t get the ball. Run the ball and short to medium passes, utilize that te until the oline starts to gel and provide protection for the qb.
I would like to see one of these QBs just lay into these offensive linemen. The only way my guys would ever start to actually block for me was when they'd get holding calls, or would get mad at me yelling at them to block for me. That's when they'd actually take that seriously and start to block.
Ty got slammed 3 or 4 times and got up and didn't say anything. If they want to convincingly win this next game against a very athletically defensive Ole Miss team, I think the Key is the offensive line and Ty Simpson getting angry at his linemen anytime they give up a sack. He should be cursing them all out on the sidelines, but being that kind of vocal leader takes time.

I have been waiting for this. I think coach Saban has definitely sent a message to everyone. Let him coach ! Milroe was our best QB from the start ! Any one who disagree just don't know football. Fkn Buchner didn't even have the strength to throw 15 yards and Simpson only looked decent when the whole defense was too tired to move ! Milroe is our man and I think coach wanted everyone to know! ROLL Tide 🌊 though! But we are not screwed ...he just had a tough team to start with TEXAS. Milroe is the strongest athlete in a QB they have. He can open the run so we have the pass ...which he is very strong in . Just needs experience by playing. I know 1 thing and that is MILROE is the best.
