Jesus was shown from a movie that he funded and produced. The home was his childhood home where they grew up extremely poor as sharecroppers, a source of great pain for him. The prison was because of the free concerts he used to do for the inmates, the most famous being the first one at Folsom.
That was his wife behind him. Sorry I think you misunderstood him. Look him up, he is more rock and roll than Trent Reznor struggled personally and strived to help the downtrodden.
When he showed his daughter this video, she said that it is as if your saying goodbye. His answer was I am. He did know he was dying. The closing of the piano lid was equivalent of a coffin closing.
Johnny Cash's Way to Say Goodbye to the World! Shortly after Releasing it he the Legendary Musician Passed away! Short after his Wife died, he followed her in the Afterlife!
Okay, I heard your intro, and I thought "either she knows nothing about Johnny Cash and she's gonna miss the point, or she does know him, and she's gonna cry". Thank you for finding the middle ground. Incidentally, the house he was looking into, and the room he building they filmed this in was the house he grew up in. . Btw, and I do like NIN (although Trent annoys me), but Johnny Cash was SO much more rock 'n' roll than them. . And yes, he did record this shortly before he died, but it was also shortly after his wife died. He actually did a whole album of excellent covers. The Man Comes Around, I think it's called. And check out "God's Gonna Cut You Down".
During Johnny Cash's childhood, a brother of his was killed in a sawmill accident. His father was hateful and disrespectful toward him. He told Johnny that the wrong person died in the sawmill accident. That tore into Johnny Cash throughout his life.
June (his wife-not daughter) was alive when the video was made . The pic on the wall is his mother. June died a couple months after & Johnny died 3 months after that. He had very bad breathing problems at the time he was singing this. Trent said this song wasn’t his own anymore after viewing the video, he liked it so well. He said it was Johnny’s song. The old house he was looking at was the house where he was born. Here’s a CASH CHALLENGE for you. This is a link to a live version of THE MAN IN BLACK, the first time Johnny Cash ever performed it. Give it a listen, preferably with a reaction! th-cam.com/video/t51MHUENlAQ/w-d-xo.html A very thoughtful reaction. Mature understanding.
I'd suggest holding on to your review for a few decades and then see if his version of the song has more context because of his voice and expression. You have the right to your opinion but I'd bet the more you invest in learning about Johnny and the state of his health when this was recorded, you would focus on how he tried to warm you/us of the cost of fame, drug use, vanity, lust, wealth, celebrity. Hope time allows you to see more than you did. I saw a rich yet poor broken man plead for a redo, but saddened by the truth that there would be none.
So if you're going to do a TH-cam channel based around music reactions that you're biased to, then you need to change your TH-cam channel. Otherwise it's not a reaction video, it's a 'I don't like this genre video'. Change your format or change your POV of reality. Impp
Your voice is really good, Emily, but here, in your video, a lot af things are wrong: the sound is very cheap, very bad; you speak to much, also on the lyrics, ad example, in a very crucial moment (when Cash said "all the broken things i cannot repair), ... Hmmm!
So now your crying! Johnnycake opened this song.Dont be so closed minded and egotistical to deny this is a better version. Quit making excuses for yourself.
First old lady is Johnny's mother. The one with him, on the staircase is his wife, June Carter Cash, the person intertwined with Johnny. Their love and adornment was something neither could ever escape from. June was always equated with Johnny and Johnny was always equated with June. June Carter Cash died during production of this video, some 3 weeks before Johnny.
She’s obviously not gonna like it’ you clearly don’t even know anything about Johnny cash cuz you thought that was his daughter on the stairs when it’s actually his misses’ I very much doubt his daughter is 3 years younger than him
I noticed that too. Thought it was a bit odd for someone who has never heard this version. It's alright to react to songs you've heard. Just, as you said, don't be disingenuous.
If you're into covers, I'd suggest "Enter Sandman" by Iron Horse. If bluegrass covers of Metallica songs aren't your cup of tea, perhaps you'd look more favorably on "Sweet Sunglasses" by Umphrey's McGee. It's like the Eurythmics, but with a little more Hart. At the opposite end of the spectrum, in "Sounds of Silence" by Disturbed, we have a heavy metal vocalist covering a classic Simon & Garfunkel performance. If you're looking for something completely different, try "Geeks In Love" by Lemon Demon.
A great song from a different perspective. It's always nice to hear different takes on a song. Sometimes it can be a disappointment, but as a rule I've found that widening your thoughts and horizons can bring a fresh look at a song you've gotten used to and make it even better than you thought it was. Another fine reaction. Thanks. You say you aren't a fan of country, but how about trying this one - it just might change your outlook on that. Chris Stapleton's cover of 'Tennessee Whiskey', live at Austin City Limits. One of the finest country blues songs I've ever heard. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/IBLruNfUqUs/w-d-xo.html He did this as a love song to his wife, who is the back-up singer here. She's the one who convinced him he should start singing and performing himself, instead of writing hit songs for other singers. One of the best things anyone has ever done. You'll understand what I mean once you've heard this, trust me.
Well it's not me you're disagreeing with. It was a VH1 TV host, who was given scripts by someone who probably never listened to that Rockabilly type style. They might've been referring to his voice during his old age. But yeah, Cash is awesome. I got three cd's from his last year with us. 😎👍
You can't say that because people have voted him the god of country, best male country singer he inspired a generation he's the reason country's popular, he also is know as one of the founders of country
This is a dying mans song of reflection, regret, faith and ultimately redemption.
Johnny Cash isnt country. Johnny Cash Is Fucking Fantastic
If you have any doubt about Johnny's version look up what Trent Reznor said after hearing this version.
At the end when he closes the piano gets me every time. It’s said that he never opened it again.
If you know about Cash's life you will know this is a better version
If you watched walk the line you will know this is a better version
Don't comment on what you don't understand!
The portrait is his mother. The woman at the railing was June, his wife. The images of Jesus reflect Johnny's strong faith.
Thank you for the information!!!
They both passed away within a year of this recording. You should watch Trent talking about this cover.

Link to Trent talking about it.

Also, the closing and stroking of the piano like signified a coffin.
That was his wife behind him. Sorry I think you misunderstood him. Look him up, he is more rock and roll than Trent Reznor struggled personally and strived to help the downtrodden.

Since the very first time I’ve seen this, I have equated the piano cover closing with a casket closing. Some people don’t get that.
It also signifies the end of music for him. This was his goodbye to his family, his fans, and music.... His life. 😢

the best cover ever this is just flawless!
7:34. Thats the point. He's got everything but nothing in the end. Everyone that he loved goes away in the end.
That was his wife, June Cash in the background. Looking back on his life & what's really important in life.
The old hose is where he grew up when his family were sharecroppers.
thats is wife numnuts
He was looking at his childhood home, which was filled with pain.
During Johnny Cash's childhood, a brother of his was killed in a sawmill accident. His father was hateful and disrespectful toward him. He told Johnny that the wrong person died in the sawmill accident. That tore into Johnny Cash throughout his life.
Didn't the lead singer of 9 inch nails say Johnny cashs version is better

June is in the video, and passed away a few months later. Johnny died several months after June.

That was the house he grew up in....
thats his wife of many years.you dont have a clue of anything you are saying
Your voice is really good, Emily, but here, in your video, a lot af things are wrong: the sound is very cheap, very bad; you speak to much, also on the lyrics, ad example, in a very crucial moment (when Cash said "all the broken things i cannot repair), ... Hmmm!

This is proberbly the worst reaction i have seen. You are stuck with one version and don't see that other can have another twist on the same thing.
This is nothing more than a commercial blah blah blah
She’s obviously not gonna like it’ you clearly don’t even know anything about Johnny cash cuz you thought that was his daughter on the stairs when it’s actually his misses’ I very much doubt his daughter is 3 years younger than him
You've never heard this version, but you sang "I wear this crown of thorns" instead of "crown of shit". It's fine you've heard it, don't be disengious

He's known to have one of the worst singing voices, but it's neat how he still managed to be influential.
😂😂
Sorry to disagree. But Johnny Cash has one of the iconic voices that bridges country and rock n roll.
