    OK you win Grah-Dough it is. :-) Well done for getting these modified where others would have quit.

      Ha Ha... I won the bottom half of the internet ;) But yes, failure is not an option, especially once you cut off the original cable. At that point you are in too deep to give up.

      @@CustomCans Indeed,
      at that point, you're committed.

    Maybe needs a solvent for the glue on those ones rather than or as well as heat

      Luckily all the newer Grados seem to come apart much more easily

    Do you also sort headphone amps I have a focal arche that’s got a weird crackling sound if you try connect to the normal connection sounds like it’s shorting however if I connect to balanced din connection which I normally use anyways it works fine. Thinking I should probably get it looked at and fixed.

      No, sorry - we just do stuff with headphones and cables

      @@CustomCans thanks for the reply I landed up just getting an adapter to use the xlr connector with the 3.5 mm jack on the grados it arrives today so will be interesting to see what they sound like through the arche amp it turns out it’s the 80x I have rather than the 60x not that I was paying a great deal of attention at the time these were never meant to be a replacement for my focals having said that I have been pleasantly surprised at just how good they do sound the pad modifications while a lot more comfortable I’m not convinced helped the sound but that pad that comes with it is only fit for the bin, yes the soundstage is a lot wider however the high end is just a bit too splashy now I will mess around with a few different pad options perhaps replacing the foam in the middle, for now I put on the larger pads that are in this video but then glued a set of beyerdynamic dt990 pads on to these looks really stupid but probably the most comfortable pads ever.

      @@gges1605 Watch out - plugging single ended cables into a balanced out can damage some amps as you will be bridging the two grounds. On a balanced headphone amp, they normally have two amps, one for left and one for right and the 4 pins on the XLR can keep the left and right separate but when you plug in an adapter like that it will join the negatives of both amps together which can upset some amps

      @gges1605 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CustomCans ah ok thanks for the heads up, I guess if I want to use balanced on the grado I will need to replace the jack plug with an xlr connector and keep the grounds separate, I didn’t know that about the connectors I will stick a meter on it and check to see if grounds are separate before I plug into amp. That was a very timely reply thank you I just put a meter on the adapter and the grounds are connected which I would not have considered checking if not for your message so there is a good chance I would have damaged the amp otherwise. I think I will just go solder a proper plug on instead. That adapter is sold as an audio adapter as well so I expect they have probably damaged a few amps .

      @CustomCans  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gges1605 Yes - you may be able to check with the amp manufacturer to see if it will be OK with the adapter but the safest way is , as you said, chop off the jack and solder on an XLR

    Hey, thanks for the video. I'm plucking up courage to do my 325x's. Just a word on the glue - have you tried running a little isopropanol in there? I've had some success using it on hot glued parts.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - IPA works like magic at getting hot glue off stuff... These just have loads of surface area inside where the two parts join. From what I remember the 325 are not too bad and come apart with a bit of heat

      @@CustomCans Brilliant - thanks! Just looking on your site - I love those litz braided cables. Do you have some listed that would be a good match for the 325's?

      @@Valisk if you fit 2.5mm sockets then a HD700 cable will fit, if you fit 3.5mm sockets then the ones we do for the beyer T1 would be best or if you are had wiring it. Pop us an email and we can make you a bare ended cable

    What do you think about Grado cable adaptors such as one from beautifulaudio? As much as I wouldn't mind cutting through plastic cans, metal or wooden ones seems "too precious". Do you think this will have an impact on sound quality? And second question; how much you charge for such mod?

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They look like a good idea. A nice neat solution and much easier than doing it the way i did in this video. I can't see it having any effect on sound quality.
      I have done these videos in the hopes it will help DIYers - Grado will not supply us with spare parts and the risks and time involved would mean it would be uneconomical to offer as a send in service

    I'm about to attempt a Grado 325x cable mod. I would love some advice. Could I pay you to help me out with some advice?

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are easier to get apart than these ;) You need to heat them up and separate the two halves. We do offer a send in service

      Yes ;)they were not too bad from what I remember - Just heat up the metal part of the driver and they come apart nicely

      Done the 325's so I guess a bit like them, the metal housing do help retaining the heat to melt the glue. Way too much glue used imo, but those tow rope cables have to go !
      Much appreciated for the reply 👍
