I am 40 years old I remember going to the planetarium when I was in elementary school. I still remember everything it was one of the coolest trips ever.
I remember going to the Planetarium, when I was in grade school. Since I lived close, my friends and I would hangout at the museum, the planetarium, and central park all summer long. The planetarium entrance was free so we'd see the show lots of times, over and over again. We'd never get tired of it even though it was the same show all summer long. Best summers, in NYC, ever. I'm in my 60s now.
Aside from the visuals the music is incredibly beautiful. One thing that is immediately obvious in this video: there is NO PURE architectural experience possible. Large crowds surround you all the time. Objects for sale are integrated into the space. Information overload. There is far too much of everything competing for attention. It's am important message of course, but there are far too many pieces of everything.
A great comment. Thank you! Ironic it seems. The universe and solar system is so vast and full of 'space' between relatively small objects yet here its all represented in a building on the West Side! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@NuYawk Since forever (it seems) I have preferred to encounter the world around me in a transcendent way. Unencumbered by the language of secondary layers of associations that are introduced as human interpretations. I love this building on the level of an abstract sculpture, a blue sphere encased in a clear cube. That is a very powerful image, in ways a metaphor of our precious planet in a protective case. I could be happy if that was all that was present. Oh, and the Willamette Meteorite for that is an actual cosmic object.
I went in grade school in the fifties. I remember there was a globe with lights showing the population of the earth throughout time with lights representing population densities. It started out in Africa, and as the population grew the lights sprang up throughout the globe until the present time, the 1950s. Then it progressed into the future with the present population growth statistics until the whole globe was lit up! That made one of biggest, lasting impressions on and in my life ever since.
As I read these comments, I'm amazed at the number of adults that this place had a life-long impact on (including my own!). Thanks for sharing, watching and subscribing j. dragon!
To be honest I actually Went their Before With My Classmates And I had a Good Time And I Loved The Theater It was So Beautiful I went Inside That Giant Ball Where the Theater Was
I love it there! Between the Planetarium and the Museum of Natural History (they are connected), I could spend a nice rainy day in there from open to close! Thanks for watching and subscribing Evelyn! Have a great Holiday!
I've seen the show many times Shirley. They change often and I've never seen a bad one. I actually did record some of the show however it is so dark in the planetarium that nothing showed up...pretty much unwatchable. But at least I got to enjoy it!

Hanging out as a kid at the museum, planetarium and especially Central Park (my favorite place on Earth) sounds like a great Summer!
You're old.

Me too! Thanks for watching Karen!

One of the places I’m most excited to see in NY, how much it costs and we have an option for an extra presentation right?
It's a pay what you wish system. It's up to you ... $50 or free! But you should make reservations. www.amnh.org/plan-your-visit
I thought was 3d auditorium?
I am disappointed that you didn't film the show inside the planetarium of the stars and planets
I'd be disappointed too if I paid to see a video and it didn't show me what I paid for... 😇

Unimpressive compared to the original, where it was understood that space is made of darkness.
