I see you tried acetone, but did you try paint stripper? Gathering info before I try to remove the jacked-up paint mess on a 66's front doors. I have used flap brushes on drills before but was wary that the process would damage the texture.
No, I did not, but how different can it be? Use whatever you are comfortable with. I've heard some do a walnut blast, but really, these brushes didn't hurt anything. I've done my doors as well using this same technique

I did paint stripper first. Then followed up with Wire wheel on the grinder. Much faster and easier to control
