I have never been to the old jail. I hate I missed that. Oh well....I will check it out next time. Thanks letting me know. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I hope you have a great day friend!
Sorry. I should have been pointing the camera a little more to the left. I was trying to focus on the ferry crossing over from Bald Head Island. But now when I watch it I see your point. That is Caswell Beach in the background.
Great video, but when you said, "I don't know anything about "Safe Haven", I almost fell out of my chair. That movie was one of the reasons I purchased my home here. LOL
Its the most charming little city ive ever had the pleasure of visiting. Im in love with it and hope to move there in the next couple of years 😊 Thanks so much for sharing this! Tha

It was great meeting you on Sunday night at the Carolina Beach boardwalk. Crazy that we would run into you! My daughter and I really enjoyed Southport.
Thank you for saying hello! It was a pleasure meeting you and your daughter. People like you is what makes the TH-cam community so cool. I was working on my Labor Day weekend video at the boardwalk when we spoke. The video will go live this Friday. I hope you and your daughter can watch it. Thanks again for watching! Have a blessed day friends!
Thanks for the video , Safe Haven movie is how I know about Southport was just there last week but couldnt go in places because I travel alone with my little four legged buddy and wont leave him in the vehicle . How ever I did eat at the Fishy Fish Cafe a couple times because they allow dogs in the outside area and even provide them with a bowl of water. If I could afford one of the older , smaller homes in the more historical part I would move there in a heartbeat , it is so beautiful down there I live in Hickory NC so I will just have to keep visiting Southport .
I actually worked on Safe Haven when they were filming it there. It was a fun set to really work on. Josh Duhamel, and Julianne Hough were allot of fun to work with. Many mornings we had to be there by 6:30am, and usually worked till about 9pm. There was a couple of nights where we worked till the wee hours of the morning!! It was a good time though!!!
Hey Mitch. Thanks for sharing your story. That sounds you had a great experience working on Safe Haven. Do you mind me asking what your job was while working on set? Thanks for watching friend!
@@HitchHikingYeti I was an extra on the set, and worked on it for the last couple months they were shooting. Josh Duhamel invited me to go golfing with him. In one scene, when he is chasing the ferry with Julianna Hough on it. When we had to back up and do another take, he rode on the sideboards of my SUV when we were doing that scene. So we chatted a little, and I even gave him a cigarette. That's why the next day he invited me to go golfing with him, but I declined. I don't golf, and I am sure would be terrible. Besides the casting company I worked for at the time might not have liked that. But Josh did say he would fix it for me had I gone. Later in the movie he introduced me to Julianna Hough, and I got to talk to her a little to. In the scene where it looks like an outside street fair, and live band. Well in between cuts I would get to talk to her and Josh. I knew she danced on Dancing With The Stars, and I asked her if she knew how to Shag??? She had no clue, and I explained it was a style of dancing, to a style of music we called beach music. Like Under the Boardwalk, and With This Ring, by The Drifters and The Tams. Anyway, she asked how long had I been shagging, I told her I was brought up into it. All my life so far. She said really.......Well show me, or teach me rather?? So I called out a song, I can't even remember. They played something close to what I called out, and I taught Julianna Hough how to shag that day. We had a ball, the most fun of all the different movies I worked on.
We spend a lot of time on Oak Island as well as Southport. We love Fishy Fishy as well as the Frying Pan. The restaurant is named after the Light Ship The Frying Pan which was replaced by the Frying Pan light tower that marks Frying Pan shoal.
We have spent years in North Carolina but have never been to Southport. It looks lovely. And it is so cool that so many movies and tv shows were filmed in the area. I would love to go to that Christmas house. We love year-round Christmas stores. Thanks for taking us along for this tour!
Daggum! I hate we missed going to the visitors’ center. Would’ve loved to have seen the Safe Haven movie memorabilia. We were there last month. Great little town.
They filmed the Steven King TV show Under the Dome in Southport. You were right in front of Big Jim's house on the show. Just down the street is the lifeguard tower they used as a radio station.
The tower on the waterfront was the old ham radio tower for the pilot boats. It was built in 1940 to replace an old wooden tower. It was used as the radio station in the TV show, Under The Dome. My family in Southport is the Potter's. Potter's Seafood on the Yacht Basin is in its 5th generation.
Hey friend! Thanks for being so informative about the tower. I enjoy learning history about the area. You being a 5th generation owner of the Potter’s seafood. I think I am learning from a good source. Have a great day and thanks for watching!
Yeti ur somethg else I'm heading that way this weekend would love to see u and ur Mrs but I know ur not there every week GoD bless u and urs keep smiling.
The visitors center you peeked into at the beginning of the video is perhaps the most historic structure. It's Fort Johnston military outpost founded by the British late 1790's, then American through the Civil War and beyond. It's on the National Register of Historical Places.
I think I mentioned I went to the icehouse in Wilmington. They have a big movie production up there. Are they still in operation? Cool tour! I always think of cape fear (but not filmed there) and Dawsons creek but didn’t know that I know what you did last summer was filmed there. If you make a mistake on a rotary phone you have to start over. Lol
Not sure if they are still in operation. The only movie production studio that I know of is Screen Gem Studios in Wilmington. Thanks for watching Dude!
What are you wondering if its still in operation, the movie studios or the Icehouse? Movie production is still going strong in Wilmington, Southport and surrounding area and the Icehouse has been closed for believe it or not, almost 3 decades now! Damn I'm getting old. Can't remember the exact year Icehouse closed, but I think it was '94?
I have no choice but to watch Safe Haven now. Everyone keeps telling me how it shows off Southport. Thanks for watching Richard. Have a great day friend!
