Baggy trousers, dirty shirt
Pulling hair & eating dirt
Teacher comes to break it up
Back of the ,ead with a plastic cup.
Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days.
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers...
Thanks for the lyrics. Now that Smash Hits doesn't exist, I need them
i love how you just copied this off google
Patrick Stocks I reader ur hole comment
SHUT THE FUCK UP IF I WANT LYRICS I WOULD GOOGLE THEM
@Matt London proper London.
There is one line that still describes schools now 'baggy trousers, dirty shirt pulling hair and eating dirt teacher comes to break it up back of the head with a plastic cup'
"Back of the head with a plastic cup" is so oddly specific but so true somehow lol
Except it's not baggy trousers anymore, it's stupidly tight trousers that taper at the ankles. They're the in-thing now. Won't find me wearing them though. Back when I was in secondary school in the 2000's, I wore a hand me down pair of Levi's that were about two sizes too big for me. A bloke who was a punk rocker in the 80's said I looked like a luddite in them. Good times 😂
Great job, great song baggy trousers 🎶👏
Madness is the most British band ever. More British than Queen, The Beatles, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Erasure, and even The Clash.
Your vieja in tanga
I agree , positivisme in everything.
...along with XTC, perhaps
Yeah honestly
More British than Pulp?
God, weren't we spoilt back then. Punk, new wave, and then the Ska revival all after each other. And all produced brilliant memorable music. What times. Sadly never to be repeated.
Lyrics:
Naughty boys in nasty schools
Headmaster's breaking all the rules
Having fun and playing fools
Smashing up the woodwork tools
All the teachers in the pub
Passing round the ready rub
Trying not to think of when
The lunchtime bells would ring again
Hook:
Oh what fun we had
But did it really turn out bad
All I Learnt at school was
How to bend not break the rules
Oh the fun we had
But at that time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to our days
The Headmaster's had enough today
All the kids have gone away
Gone to fight with next door's school
Every term that is the rule
Sits alone and bends his cane
Same old backsides again
All the small tell tall tales
Walking home and squashing snails
[Hook again]
Lots of girls and lots of boys
Lots of smells and lots of noise
Playing football in the dark
Kicking pushbikes after dark
Baggy trousers, Dirty Shirt
Pulling hair and eating dirt
Teacher comes to break it up
Back of the 'ead with a plastic cup
[Hook]
Baggy Trousers
Baggy Trousers
Baggy Trousers
Baggy Trousers
Baggy Trousers
Baggy Trousers
Playing football in the dark or park?
one of my favourite songs by my madness! definitely music from better days & happier times!!! 🔉🔈🔊🥳🥳🥳
Stumbled upon this. oh 80's nostalgia. I grew up on this Ska
Today is the birthday of baggy trousers and omg i brings me back memories.. I had to perform this at the MEN arena in manchester with my school choir 😂😂❤️
I just want to appreciate that they called a wonderful song baggy trousers
Thanks to my older sister, every day was some good music at home.Madness was for the morning time mostly...Great band 🎉
We Are Number One but it's from the 1980's and Ant McParklin liked it and it's sung by right Cockneys
Actually left, but close enough :D
right as in 'really cockney'
reaperofthedamned07 y
North Londoners are hardy Cockneys - you gotta be from East London to claim that .... he said pulling on his tin hat and waiting for the incoming rounds :o)
@Robiddybob29: You are right about that, to be a true Cockney you have to be born in Cheapside area of East London which is where Bow Church is, the rest of London is just London and not quite as strong as the East End dialect. Madness like most of the SKA bands were from Camden Town.
That flying saxophone guy though.....
I can't find the wire creepy...
***** That sax guy must be high.
Lilicool09 was that a goddamn pun
What about him, Kumiko ?
He lives on my road.
Baggy Trousers is what hooked me at 10. Still buying albums and seeing live. Madness R No1.
This was filmed at my school!
What?!
Nice
How were the school lunches?
I loved the clip of the girls, especially the one with a fag in her hand. I bet she had a sprog a year later!
Name of the school?
I can not stop listening to this tune.
This song is over 34 years old and it still sounds great.
8 years crikey
44 now 😮
this sumed up school in the 1970s so much . god bless you lads !
The real epic sax guy is in creative mode
I wish I'd appreciated my teens in the 80s more. My kids really don't know what freedom and fun were.
Madness was the group that defined my teens and without any swearing or violent lyrics. Thanks nutty boys from an 'official' nutty girl ❤️❤️👍👍👍❤️
Madness had several swearwords in their lyrics. You obviously weren't listening very hard.
Great band. Listening to this song I'm suddenly 12 years old again and at Woodcote High School. Happy memories.
GUYYYYYS
It was my 18th on saturday, i just got tickets to Madness this august :D
+ACupOfKerba Clapham Common august 29th
You know you can edit your comments, right?
+TheMatteoStudios yeah i commented on my phone which can be very temperamental, a follow up comment was more convinient
Withdrawn.
It's nice to see kids of the generation appreciate 80's New Wave music! God bless you, dude! :)
School football videos with this song are really funny to watch
This music was a part of my childhood in London.......love it!!
I used to deliver school meals to this school when I worked for Camden Council. So yeah I had to visit this video location every day! As a hardcore Madness fan since forever this was an absolute joy! And I got paid for it!
Which school is it?
@@zuro1092 it's on Islip Street in Kentish Town NW5. There's only 1 school on that road. You can't miss it :)
@@danfossard4626 Cheers:) Will definitely stop by with new eyes:)
@@zuro1092 no worries. If you go up the little side street to the left of the main gates you'll see this playground where they filmed the video. Even tho it looks different now you still see where it was. Have fun
as an american who was born there and never been to england i'll prob never have the chance to visit this place lol
These lyrics are as good as any poetry of our times...They encasulate a period in our lives in minutes...true verse...fair play
Having known them (ie listened & liked, but not really paid much attention) I've only just worked this out. Great lyrics can transport you in a few words
Hello people with good taste in music
Hello back to you!
@@josephmarturana6752 hey bro
When i was in Jr school Madness were massive, every kid loved them.
Wish that was the case in the United States. Most of the bands I loved as a kid were either British, Canadian, or Australian.
Help! I cannot stop replaying this over and over again!
Madness was een sensatie in 1980. Anno 2015 is het nog steeds mijn favoriete band aller tijden.
Omg. I did this song at my school when i was in yr1 i just found it again. My god the memories
One of the many great songs by Madness 😎😎
I was watching Sugg's WWII Treasure hunting last night and couldnt help imagine Madness walking the walk behind him when he was doing his walk along chats.
The kids in this video are, by now, about fifteen years off retirement.
what no theyre not
@@TheNoobyMinecrafter1 If this was released in 1980 and they're all about ten years old, they'd be about fifty now. Assuming retirement at 65 gets you about fifteen years to go. Make the most of life while it lasts!
Assuming they’ll even have jobs, the kids in this video will be dropping dead at their workstations in about 25 years because retirement is almost not a thing anymore:
David Scothern Retirement age for them will be 67, according to the gov website, presuming they were born January 1970.
who says everyone wants to 'retire'
the amazing thing about madness is all the members were between the ages of about 17 and 23 when they began releasing their classic records. the early sound is very much what happens when you put together 7 guys that age
What a band! Truly one of a kind
beatlecost so correct
beatlecos
Reminder you put this comment 6 years ago haha
im so proud of the uk :) this cheers me up so good
That harmonic segueway with the harmonica, bass, and brass in concert; da da Da Da! Is pure ironic genius
Yes, totally agree, Madness was so harmonically progressive and extraordinarily creative. Very underrated band still to this day, at least in the states where I am
This is a timelessness classic from my school days
