Fantastic performance but sometimes it is our job as conductors, to advocate for the composer when they clearly didn't make the best choice. The gritos throughout the final two pages detract from the rhythmic structure, which should be the primary focus at that moment. They cut through the bravado of the piece and no Mexican folk music would do that. Hatfield demonstrates his lack of cultural understanding in that moment. Pull the gritos. I've been conducting this piece for two decades, I often pull ALL of the gritos and it sounds significantly better.
