  • Marseille Cruise Port area does not enable you to walk out of the port in safety to the street. Cruise companies are charging passengers for a shuttle service to the town. THERE IS A FREE PORT SHUTTLE FROM THE GATE. Please if you are able to walk approx. 1km there is a free shuttle service offered by the port authority to ensure passenger safety. The bus only stops if there is a strike so please research this when you go. Generally you will be standing up as it is a single decker bus operated any time there is a cruise ship in port approx. every 20 minutes. I hope I save you some money as the cruise company are charging $20 per person so i will have saved you a considerable amount. Please, in return i would appreciate it if you would subscribe for free and share my youtube and I will be happy. Safe travels cruisers and LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL..@amiddleagedadventure

Excellent... Best in your pocket rather than the cruise company. Safe travels

Thank you for the video. Is the Vieux Port far from where the bus drop you off?

The port area is approx. 1 mile to the nearest corner. The ship shuttle dropped people just before the town hall so still 0.5 miles away, I am not sure if there were 2 drop points for the ship shuttle.
When you get off the free bus you walk out of the white gates onto the main road. Across the street is a square and a number of bus stops and possibly taxis. The walk to the port is very flat and easy walking. Hope this helps

How long waits we can expect on a busy day with 5 or 6 large boats arriving? Should we aim to go early or late

There were 3 boats in the second time we went and we did not wait the bus was there. There were 2 busses. The route takes about 12-15 min so if there are still 2 busses the wait is short whatever time you go. Not many know about this and the cruise companies don't tell you.

DONT DO IT - ONE DRIVER - 35 MINUTES - MASS CATTLE STAMPEDE ON RETURN TO GET ON THE BUS.
OFTEN 6 CRUISE SHIPS IN AT ONE TIME. YOU WILL WAIT AN HOUR TO GET ON UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY EARLY - YOU WILL LOSE ABOUT 2 HOURS OF YOUR DAY - BUT AS THE VIDEO SAYS - IT IS FREE.

Interesting. We did it 4 times and had no issues. We were early though. When we were later they put an extra bus on.

@@CruiseOrLoosehow early do you suggest getting out to the bus stop?

@simsations1 Hi, there were 3 ships in when we were there. We had breakfast and were off by 9. The walk is about 5 minutes. You can find out how many ships will be there on that day if you search for the port on Google and look for cruise ships in Marseille that day. Returning I would give yourself plenty of time before the last bus. Something like cruisemapper may help searching for ships in port.
