    I’ve watched several of these biorb air vids and this still remains my favourite one by a mile, I like the simplicity and the fact he hasn’t overcrowded this compared to a lot I’ve seen, but still managed to achieve great texture and colour ❤❤

    I've been waiting for this one George. As you mentioned I've seen in the background!
    Many of the skills and principles that you've acquired apply here as well. You've done a great job as always. Make sure Tommy at Green Aqua sees this, I'm sure he will love it. Perhaps this is one of many to come. In fact you may be moving to another aspect of the hobby as well as your business.
    Keep on 'scaping George!

    Very cool. I don’t think the Phalaenopsis is going to be happy in there though. Their roots have to dry out between waterings and their flowers hate stagnant air. The fan will help but may drive the humidity down too low for the saligenella species. There are lots of small orchids that like it wet. Bulbophlum, Pleurothallis and Masdavilla come to mind. The various species of jewel orchids also love terrariums. If you want a vine, Vanilla is another terrarium lover.
    Good luck,
    Chris

    These are really cool but agree with what you were saying about the aquarium versions being tacky. The Air though is awesome and seem pretty simple to set up and maintain. Really interested to see how that utricularia graminifolia works out in there as I've tried it a couple of times in scapes and have had little success as well, hope it works and excited to see it immersed.

    Making this comment only a minute and a half in and those are my thoughts exactly, I much prefer these as I've never liked the aquarium version for those exact reasons and I also agree about curved edge tanks too, I've still got one like it but it's a plant keeping practice tank but it has had fish in the past and they distorted as they passed the curve. The biorb air looks great.

    I don't suggest putting that phalaenopsis orchid in there, they can thrive in a room. Although orchids like humidity some are ok with dry periods - most orchids are like succulents and cacti. Most can survive being watered every 3 days to every week; depends on what substrate they are in of course.
    Go with another orchid like masdevillia types, jewel orchids for their leaves, or even bulbophyllum types those can thrive in humid environments better.

    That is just jaw- droppin-' pure- D- purdy. I liked the pepperomia (spelling??) for it's texture and shading on it's leaves.
    George, George, you made me laugh so much. The terrarium is out of the box, all set up, dirted and planted..."I'll read the instructions properly later, when I take this home."
    And the ending...don't worry about botching up words, just drop down and do a few one armed push ups, nobody will remember anything else about the ending, I promise 😂

    Great video and spot on for a display piece. However, from personal experience coco coir isn’t great for longevity. I add sphagnum moss, orchid bark and sand to make the substrate more complete.
    I also thoroughly wash all plants and remove all the soil from the roots. This massively reduces the potential for pests to be introduced to the setup.
    I finish the setup by adding springtails and isopods to make setup fully bioactive.

    Great scape, we wouldn't expect any less from one of the Western world's leading aquascapers. But if I may say so, it shows that terrariums are not your cup of tea. The soil, not compost, is probably coconut fiber. Not exactly rich in nutrients. Adding some actual compost and biodegradables would have been better. Plse make sure to mist and water with aquariumwater. That way you give some extra nutrients to the plants. Distilled water will cause deficiencies for the plants since the soil is not nutrient rich. You're familiar with Serpa Design. You might want to check his channel for tutorials on how to create terrarium soil. The channel from "the bio dude" Josh Halter might be worth a visit as well. Alsof, personally, I'm an adept of bioactive soil, even for my house plants (springtails and white tropical isopods). It may be something to consider for the Biorp as well.

    Hi George, as a carnivorous plant will you be feeding the utricularia anything in particular? I understand that as a submerged plant it develops bladder traps which feed on infusoria, does it not develop bladder traps when planted above the water line or can it survive on the nutrients in the substrate/fertilisers alone?

    This is an extremely expensive thing.

      I think he did an amazing job! You decorate it based on placement in your house. I already ordered the 8 gal aquarium,(I was unaware that it was not fully clear), and I plan on doing a 370 degree design, With fish, but they sell those foggers seperatley, so if someone wanted to do the same thing, with the cheaper aquarium, they probably could. I hope it's not too cheezy. It arrives tomorrow.

    Interested to see how this turns out as you used planting techniques you would for an aquarium i.e. removing substrate from the roots and pressing the plants into the soil. These same rules aren't really transferable when working with plants out of water. I hope the plants take and thrive because it will be beautiful

    • @GeorgeFarmerStudios
      @GeorgeFarmerStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Matthew. I didn’t really know how to prepare the plants so just guessed. Hopefully they’ll be ok! How would you have done it?

    • @mathewhull5557
      @mathewhull5557 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GeorgeFarmerStudios I'm sure they will be okay as it's kept quite damp in a biorb air. The main things I would change would be to wash the plant roots of soil if you want to get rid of some of the potting soil, much like you do with invitro plants. Generally speaking, you can't rip off roots in the manner you might do with a crypt for instance. Roots can be very delicate and you want the fine fibrous roots to stay with the plant.
      The other thing is planting. Dig a hole the right size for the plant roots and make sure the root flare, where the roots turn into stems, sits on the soil line. I see often in aquarium planting that plants can be pushed into soil and be buried quite deep but still survive. Not often the case with terrestrial plants.
      I hope that makes sense. Still loving the videos and hope this project looks great in your gallery 😀
