    I just purchased the Amiga Parceiro from David Dunklee. Nice little solution by adding 8mb memory, clock and sd card access. You do still have to boot with a kickstart/workbench combo disk to use it. Conflicted on what I want to do now. 100% Amiga with David’s solution though.

    Chris - I just purchased a Pistorm to do exactly this with my 1000. Did you have to flash the Pistorm's firmware or did it work out of the box fully? Seriously, thanks for this video. My partner gave me this computer out of his retro collection and I've wanted to upgrade it for a long time.

      I am running mushashi core which is older however gives me networking and many features. Emu68
      Is the bare metal one which is way faster but less festures. I did this when they were all brand new so yes I did have to flash the cpld. Newer ones might come ore flashed with a core and you just run whatever emu you
      Want. Emu68 or mushashi

    Could you reveal a bit more on the software side? What does your pistorm default.cfg look like and what kick ROM file version did you use? I have been playing with different memory configs and alternate 3.1 kicks and the most give me no screen but the keyboard mapping is working (the pistorm reports a keyboard reboot when I press ctrl-LAmiga-RAmiga). Kickstart 3.1 rev4063 is the most "lively." It gives me a green screen (bad chip mem). Thank you!

    Nice work, sir! Was wondering if this could work in a 1000. I remember people trying to fit the 68010 as a replacement in the socket, and although it technically worked and was like, 10% faster, software compatibility was iffy, to say the least. This looks a LOT more effective, and only took 35+ years to get here! :D

Of course, with the chip shortage, the PiStorm is unobtanium right now, but I grew up with my Amiga 1000, so it would be a nice upgrade for it, even if it only has 512k of chip.

Also, I am eager to see how you double chip ram, for the only Pheonix boards are pricey and rare. Similar to you, I have several Amiga machines, but always had a sweet spot for the 1000. The Amiga 1000 has the same limiting graphics as the A2000/3000 so if you can do the PiStorm RTG stuff when booting Kickstart 2 ROMs it would be great. You only need to load KS disks from cold boot, it's not that big of a deal if a game allows a keyboard reset back to workbench disk prompt so you don't have to turn it off and back on at the power switch.

I replaced the disk drive with an A1000 compatible 3d printed Gotek frame so I already solved the fit problem as my drive shield has been removed. I gather if it works with disks it works with Goteks. Where do I send my money? I guess this is a silly question but....can it do AGA now, from the video output of the Pi? I guess it wouldn't kill me to drill a hole in the backplate. Maybe I'll chuck this in my unexpanded A1000 as the Spirit board has soldering all over the place.

      @ChannelReuploads9451 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I think he was referring to the fact that the ZorroII side slot will mirror the 68000 socket signals, so in theory you COULD relocate the PISTORM form factor to Zorro for use on the A1000 side expansion (Just remember the slot is Inverted to an A500's).
      After all, you can use an ACA500+ on a 1000 if you are good at remembering to flip the device over.
      The 68000 is a 16bit CPU, and the 86 pin bus is merely a buffered extension of the 68000 slot. In theory you could form factor the PIStorm to the A500/A1000 86 pin connector, but remember to remove the 68000 from the old socket.
      At its basic, the 86 pin carries the full compliment of 68000 signals, plus a few clock (CLK) and Ram / Rom select signals along with some 5V / GND rails. If it works on the 68000 socket, then if you form factor for the 1000 / 500 expansion slot, it SHOULD work.
      [edit] Checks out. The 68000 socket is connected DIRECTLY to the Expansion slot. and for the Shits / Giggles if there was enough room, it would work in an A600 too, because using a 68 pin PLCC socket and tying a pin to ground via a resistor (I forget which, BGACK is one of them and i think _BR) the 68000 goes in to stand by, so all you do is regenerate them on the PISTORM side for the system to operate. So by dropping _BR to Ground (via a 1K resistor), the pin goes low (Logic 0), and the CPU will disconnect itself from the bus.

      @@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Oh I'm afraid you'd be disappointed. I checked design by Cris Erving (copyright 1986) and it's not a chip ram hack. It's more like a ReSlow for A500 but uses AddMem to map itself to chipram space. It is - unfortunately - inaccessible to chipset and that's why newer AOS (1.2+) shouldn't be used with it or they'll try to put there things for chipset which chipset cannot access since MOS 8361/8367 does not manage signals for those ram chips. Those signals are created by syncing chipset ram access signals with decoding cpu address line signals - again - not unlike ReSlow. So - just as article presents - it's neither fast ram nor chip ram. It's not fast ram because it's not directly accessible from CPU. It's not chip ram because it's not directly accessible from Agnus. It's basically SLOWRAM in CHIPRAM address space. I don't know if there are some adapters for PLCC Agnus for A1k which would make true 1MB chip ram available - but basically that's what you'd need to get past 512KB limit of CHIP RAM on A1k.

    • @Amiga1000
      @Amiga1000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Promilus1984 The problem with A1000 Agnus vs FAT Agnus is that FAT Agnus is not pin compatible. FAT Agnus controls lot's more logic than A1000 one. There is no other solution for A1000 to increase chip ram other than Rejuvenator board - which is impossible to get. Hope some day some smart people will figure this out, but as for now there is no way to do so:/ Unfortunatelly. Surprisingly lot's of software runs fine from floppy / gotek. Like MK2, Super Frog, Lotus 3 and many other classics - which doesn't run through WHDLoad on A1000.

      @@Amiga1000 Well yes and no. As I said - there is no workaround except using 1MB (or 2MB) Agnus. And it's not only problem with pin compatibility. It's different package and I already mentioned that. And I think most of the signals are the same even when slightly different names are on schematics. And sure Fat Agnus has more logic - it has to to reach more chip ram :) It does the same job in the same way ... just have some more decoding logic and maybe some mild bugfixes.

      @@Amiga1000 sure would be nice if someone would reverse engineer the rejuvenator board so we could have a modern version of it.

      So 3.1.4 just works? Winuae doesn’t like that mix, 1000 chips and 3.1. I have not tried it on my actual 1000.

      WinUAE works fine with a 1000 config and 3.1. Don't know what I did wrong before. It never occurred to me to make a 3.1 kickstart disk.

    I dont see the point in this.. So why not use UAE on raspberry and get really cool speeds, or just go hardware for retro. This is like attaching a car to a house using the doors on the car as entrance..

      Its a cpu accelerator. Its not like its completely making everything inside the amiga useless like the vampire does.

      @Daz5Daz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just a CPU emulator and gives you switchable kickstarts and a hard drive. The rest of the Amiga is in full operation.
