I was born and raised in the US and live in California but work for a company in Scotland. 😊 I've had the pleasure of visiting a couple of times, seeing such sights as Castle Stalker and Glencoe. And I had one paid holiday day left for the year that I hadn't decided how to use, so I told my direct supervisor that I was going to use it to take off Tuesday because I didn't think I'd be able to concentrate on work (and my usual day off is Wednesday, so it'll be a nice longer break). She told me it was no bother, she completely understood and would probably do the same thing if in my shoes. 😄 My family and I already voted for Harris as soon as we got our ballots in early October, so here's hoping.

When I was a young girl, my sister and I called our mother "Momma Bear" in those times when she got angry on our behalf. If she had to fight for us at school or heard we got hurt somehow, stand back, because you don't mess with Momma Bear. 🐻 The current GOP and everything they've done has activated a whole pack of Momma Bears. They best stand back, because we are coming with our claws out. (To vote, not to commit violence!) (And no, being a mother is not required for Momma Bear Mode. My protective side still activates if a friend or family member is hurt!)

I have lived through some times I thought would be the worst I’d ever see: the assassination of a President, the shooting of another, Viet Nam and the protests and violence that came with it, Watergate and Nixon’s resignation, the death of Martin Luther King, the riots in Watts, the Rodney King beating, trial, riots, and all the pervasive racism the continues in this county. But we always survived because the majority of our leaders were good and honorable. The majority of our citizens were good and honorable. We took the constitution seriously and revered our traditions and institutions. That is no longer the case. I have never in my adult life been this afraid for our country, my fellow citizens and my family.

Me too. I saw the Berlin wall, My dad and mom gave us kids a good lesson on freedom and liberty whilst traveling. We were to go to West Berin for my dad job. We had the option of visiting East berlin (1970) I was 10. He said he could lose his job if we went over to the other side. We could lose our citizenship, and not be able to get not only to West Berlin but west Germany where we resided at the time. It really gave us kids some civil education at the time. I didn't fully understand at the time but as I grew up, I thought about the question, and it has really stuck with me especially now. I saw checkpoint Charlie, and my dad brought back a piece of barbed wire. East berlin looking over the wall was sad because it looks like it had been recently bombed at the time logically wasn't. For a kid that was visually impaired I got a lot out of traveling, Museums,Castles, Cathedrals and other places.

I feel the same. I'm 65 and remember all of those things. I was only 13 but I was so proud to be an American during the Watergate hearings when Nixon was told to resign or be impeached. The system worked because there were people, Republicans and Dems, who believed in the principals of democracy. Now the Republican party has chosen to shun voices like Liz Cheney or the Lincoln Project. It's bewildering and frightening. But I do take heart in folks like the Lincoln Project and the other comments here, ordinary folks who recognize the danger and know the assignment.

Hi. Another Canadian here, tears on my face. I lived in New York City for five years and grew to love the forthrightness and community of American people, all races, all creeds, all colours, jostling at times, in conflict at times, but when push came to shove, there for each other. I lived through the first World Trade Center bombing, endured bomb threats and an evacuation in the ensuing days. I had returned to Canada by 9/11, but my heart stopped nonetheless. I was heartbroken, and I still ache over it. That’s when I knew NYC was another “home”. Throughout, The West Wing was there, showing us all what was, what could be. I still consider it the best television ever made, because it showed us all what committed, very human beings could achieve, realistically and with great attention to detail, reverence for history, respect and humanity. This is what I see as possible now. You have this opportunity now, to continue building a more perfect union, just like your dollar depicts - the always building, never finished pyramid, always improving, reaching for better. Grasp it with both hands. Be the torch that lights the way to freedom, liberty, for all. I’m proud of what you all have accomplished, in the face of this threat. Be the light for your neighbours who have lost their way, despairing and desperate, poorly educated, or in desperate circumstances, and therefore more easily manipulated. Lift them up too. Be the promise embedded in that most remarkable of documents, your own Constitution, firm but not inflexible to a changing understanding of who you are as a people, as individuals, as a union. I was born and raised in the US and live in California but work for a company in Scotland. 😊 I've had the pleasure of visiting a couple of times, seeing such sights as Castle Stalker and Glencoe.
And I had one paid holiday day left for the year that I hadn't decided how to use, so I told my direct supervisor that I was going to use it to take off Tuesday because I didn't think I'd be able to concentrate on work (and my usual day off is Wednesday, so it'll be a nice longer break). She told me it was no bother, she completely understood and would probably do the same thing if in my shoes. 😄
My family and I already voted for Harris as soon as we got our ballots in early October, so here's hoping.

I am 71 years old. I have lived through some times I thought would be the worst I’d ever see: the assassination of a President, the shooting of another, Viet Nam and the protests and violence that came with it, Watergate and Nixon’s resignation, the death of Martin Luther King, the riots in Watts, the Rodney King beating, trial, riots, and all the pervasive racism the continues in this county. But we always survived because the majority of our leaders were good and honorable. The majority of our citizens were good and honorable. We took the constitution seriously and revered our traditions and institutions. That is no longer the case. I have never in my adult life been this afraid for our country, my fellow citizens and my family.
Who would have thought it could get worse than all these situations you are recalling. Now we just need to make sure that we have done whatever we could to ensure the Harris/Walz ticket gets as many votes as possible 🇺🇸💙
Me too. I saw the Berlin wall, My dad and mom gave us kids a good lesson on freedom and liberty whilst traveling. We were to go to West Berin for my dad job. We had the option of visiting East berlin (1970) I was 10. He said he could lose his job if we went over to the other side. We could lose our citizenship, and not be able to get not only to West Berlin but west Germany where we resided at the time. It really gave us kids some civil education at the time. I didn't fully understand at the time but as I grew up, I thought about the question, and it has really stuck with me especially now. I saw checkpoint Charlie, and my dad brought back a piece of barbed wire. East berlin looking over the wall was sad because it looks like it had been recently bombed at the time logically wasn't. For a kid that was visually impaired I got a lot out of traveling, Museums,Castles, Cathedrals and other places.

I feel the same. I'm 65 and remember all of those things. I was only 13 but I was so proud to be an American during the Watergate hearings when Nixon was told to resign or be impeached. The system worked because there were people, Republicans and Dems, who believed in the principals of democracy. Now the Republican party has chosen to shun voices like Liz Cheney or the Lincoln Project. It's bewildering and frightening. But I do take heart in folks like the Lincoln Project and the other comments here, ordinary folks who recognize the danger and know the assignment.
