Wow.... She's shifting now dude!! Absolutely loving this series. 👌 I'm pretty sure with enough space you can hit 50mph! Amazing how tough those stock CWO1 gearboxes are to take that amount of abuse! 🤣 👍
Just watching this old speed challenge. I ran my Lunchbox in the late 80's with a Hornet pinion, Parma 18t double motor, 8.4v battery, Thunder Shot rear shocks/springs fitted front/rear and the tyres stretched over Blackfoot rims for low profile. It was quick BUT, the mechanical controller if you tried to slow it rolled and steering at all the same result. With all the mods you can buy now to get the car over 40mph brilliant.
I remember having a similar setup on my Pumpkin back in '89. I could get it going pretty quick, but as you said, with the mechanical speedo, every time you went to slow down, you'd lock up the back tires, skid, and usually roll over. 😆
@@poorboysrc The chassis I have built the most, I have done a few custom ones for family and others. The last one was a Barbie Pumpkin with Interior. Lunchbox one of my top 5 Tamiya's as wrong to one favourite 🙂
Great video Buddy. I have had my pumpkin for over 15 yrs now. Modded up and still going strong. what I did years back was to turn the wheelie bar the other way around so that is points down rather than up as it pretty much stops the wheelies and gives more of a normal run. I do like it that way and kept that way now for years. I will be doing more mods to it as I want to make my own baja style buggy frame from alloy bar... Thank you for all your videos on the classics as I do love all the retro RC stuff. I have also subscribed to your channel. Take care buddy and thanks again for all your great content. 😁😁👍👍
Nice video. Funny to see that every Pumpkin /Lunchbox is nearly uncontrollable at high speeds. It is the front axle geometrie that can't handle this speeds. I also glued leadweights to the front and it helps a bit. Will tear down my Pumpkin and start from scratch with a aluchassis ,longer wheel base and many other upgrades.
That’s awesome! You could tell that last run was in the zone! I think you’re right, you need twice as much space to run up and sit on full throttle for a couple seconds.
That precision counter weight mechanism really works! I'd run a gyro in there too. On the weekends there are some big empty parking lots near the base in Esquimalt. Great vid, I feel the joy and pain 👍
Haha, you like that PCM, eh? 🤣 I'll have to drive by those lots and see if they'd work, I need room to let this unicorn fly! Haha! Thanks for the tip! 🤙
@@poorboysrc you better get a patent on it quick thats all i can say. Honestly though it looked like it really helped. Check out the area around Lyall St and Canteen Rd, its a beauty of a lot!
I got my front end parts in on Friday and will be installing them today I hope if time allows and getting out for a run. Not sure if I can get going that fast but we will see! I think with some more room you will really be cooking!!! the inevitable tumbles have me worried but I am gonna give it all she's got and just pray it doesn't explode!!!
Awesome stuff Fil! Great camera work tracking that bullet going past too 😎 You have got quite the following on this one dude! Can’t wait to see who gets there 🙌🏻👍🏻
Man that was awesome to get 40MPH on that chassis and still able to get more by the look of it if you had the room is insane dude , im going to miss the deadline as mine still on the way but hey ill still try and get mine to 35mph as i have challenged myself now and will still post the video just for fun also picked up a GSN speed meter so this is going to be a blast timing out all my rc's and then getting a log on what does what on different battery's etc etc thanks for the great inspiration on a fun platform 🙂
Hey Andrew, thanks for the great comment! Good luck getting your CW01 up to 35! And even if you miss the deadline, send me a link to your video, or tag me in it, I'd love to see her rip! 👊
Hey I've been watching various people doing this challenge so I thought I'd better check out where it all started. Really great effort to get a CW-01 to go that fast. It's been good fun to see how everyone got on. I see I'm too late for this and to be honest I don't think I'd get near your speed and I can't afford all the upgrades and breakages. Top work!
It's been a ton of fun, Pete! I'm editing the video announcing the winner today and should have it set to air for tomorrow. There was a lot of good feedback on this challenge, so I'll probably do it again next year. You'll have to join in! 👊
Hi Fil. Great work buddy. To begin with I was thinking that's not very good. I got 30mph on 2S but wow 44is scary. Should be getting my first attempt out today running on NiMH but have decided not to submit the first runs on Lipo as we had some tech issues and didn't record the first run with the meter set to 0. All the best and stay safe my friend.
@@poorboysrc This is my first attempt hehehe. th-cam.com/video/w37phmw492Y/w-d-xo.html Only joking I had this done way before I found out about this challenge and it's total stock. Proper first run tomorrow👍
Ok so here's the link to my first proper attempt. th-cam.com/video/IX6kTX08VOM/w-d-xo.html Sorry for the lateness but been out crashing it in an attempt to go faster lol.
That's a really good run for a lunchbox, it must be nuts trying to get all that power down.. Really need higher gears to combat all that torque and give higher rpm
Agreed a higher gear set would be ideal! I'm wouldn't even know where to begin making that happen, so I'm just looking for power and a lot of room to make it work. Haha!
@@poorboysrc I have always wanted to make an aluminum gear case for mine but never got around to it.. Maybe something for the future when I get my cnc machines fully up and running
@@adrianharrison5208 now that would be sweet!!! Check out the CW01 videos by Jack-o-trades, he 3D printed his own custom gearbox with high speed gearing!
They're very grippy, I really like them! Also running no foams and I didn't glue mine until I started passing the 35mph range, the wheels would spin inside the tire under throttle, so I had to glue them. 👊
@@poorboysrc im running a stock comical grasshopper wr02cb so it sounds like no glue tires would be just fine. Thanks for the input on the speed & tire spinning 🤣 stock motor can’t get up that fast.
Excellent! That multi tool really did the trick! What was the surface like, was it dusty on the tarmac? Slicks seem to struggle if it's not super clean surface. Good job getting it tamed and clocking in some killer speed runs, bro! I got mine fixed, now about to paint body, got crap weather next few days, hopefully nice for next weekend, final attempt.
Yeah a little dusty and cold out, the back tires would spin when I punched it at 30mph! It was a lot to get a hold of, but when I figured it out, it was great! Good luck on your next run, my friend! Pray for good weather! 👍🏻
