@Gurpreet25 He won the ADCC Euoropean trials winning all fights via submission. He has 19 submission wins in MMA. Some of those are standing guillotine chokes but among them is a submission win over Vitor Belfort. In his losses to Shogun and Werdum he was gassed and against Arona he pinched a nerve in his leg. Overeem has always been well-rounded. Who knows how much better he is now.
@therealearthmunkey I can easily see Overeem winning. He has the tools to beat anyone at HW. I would call him the favorite to win. As for Top 10 status I would rank him at #8 or #9 right now. Sherdog ranks Werdum #3 so Overeem should be Top 5 with a win. This fight is the turning point of his career.
Man, I'm stoked to see the Werdum fight. Although people are crazy if they don't rank Overeem in the top five. Even if he loses tomorrow he's still in the top 5. I'd love to see Overeem fight dos Santos or Velasquez.
Overeem is a very sober guy, very rational indeed, pretty smart guy. Intelligence is what helpes in the fights. Overeem doesn't just go balls to the wall, he's an intelligent fighter and you can hear it from his talking.
@MooseWrecksAll one fight in strikeforce? Mike Kyle, Antonio Silva and Fedor, He asked to be released from his UFC contract because he was unhappy there. The win over Fedor was huge he was number 1 since 2003 and that moved werdum WAAY up. Facts bro, they'll get ya
@awhislyle No, he just said that in 2 years he'll probably be fighting in the UFC. His contract is almost up, and I'm sure once it is, he will be signed. Dana just wants him to win the GP first, so he has something to market him with in the States.
@lesrambles1 Maybe some of his parents/grandparents came from Jamaica, but he was born in the UK. At young age, he already moved to the Netherlands, so really he's been raised here, and most of the culture he's absorbed is from the Netherlands. I don't care about his skincolor or anything, to me he's a dutchman, he's one of our dutch speciality powerhouses: kickboxing.
@Gurpreet25 Now as far as him using his size to his advantage why not? A fighter uses every advantage he has. Reach. Speed. Strength. Physical attributes matter however Overeem proved he can beat big strong men recently like Duffee and Rogers. His top game against Brett Rogers was insane! Overeem is a complete fighter and he will be officially Top 10 if he beats Werdum.
@cujo905 Yes, twice. Overeem called Fedor out about 2-3 years ago, and then again after Werdum beat Fedor. M-1 threw a wrench in the gears both times and pretty much put a stop to any and all talk about it.
THUMBS THIS UP!!!! Ariel Helwani...next time can you ask Dana White's opinion on Alistair Overeem's ranking in the Heavy Weight class...now since Zuffa owns Strikeforce, Dana might have a change in opinion
@CombatSportzFan Yes but sometimes you dont need to have that many fight u can just feel it and also seeing what he has done elsewhere and the way he has done it even though it aint all MMA. You just feel he is top 3.....
@fayj17 I agree, man. You can't really argue that Cain is No.1 until he loses the belt. I do think JDS has a very good chance of taking it though and is at least No.2. And I definitely believe Overeem is No.3, just based on the fact that there isn't anyone else in the division who is on a role like he is atm. His fight with Werdum should decide that though I guess...
@MysticNinjaJay haha where did he show this great grappling skills on the ground?. Shogun? Arona? Werdum? Overeem is still a one dimensional fighter who does uses his size to have an advantage.
@TerryMMA85 i understand that,but now its the same owner so it will be same rules for strikeforce and for UFC, i mean on rules for contracts, so everybody wants to see him on UFC. and on the GSP vs diaz umm, the only one who want that fight is Diaz and who doesnt?, anyway he convinced dana. i think he needed to pass some test frst like koscheck, shields even when they friends or teammates. then if he pass those test then a title shot. cause a LOT of ppl we think he doesnt deserve it still.
everyone is always like blah blah fedor needs to be in the UFC, but i am more interested in this guy coming to the ufc. he seems like he could make some waves.
@jasonatme I'd say: 1. Overeem 2. Cain 3. JDS I personally think that Cain and JDS are still amateurs compared to Overeem in terms of experiance, but hey, thats just my opinion.
@MooseWrecksAll Werdum won 2 fights before the loss to Junior, then he got fired. He is an accomplished grappler on the world level, and he has won 3 fights in strikeforce acutally, including fedor and bigfoot. That right there tells me YOU dont know what you're talking about.
@1MoreRoundbrother Alistair Overeem is a complete MMA fighter and Brock Lesnar is not. Size is not going to matter much. It didn't for Cain. I would not be so sure Lesnar is stronger and faster. Overeem is solid muscle and very athletic. If Lesnar cannot get him to the ground Overeem knocks him out. Even on the ground Overeem has great grappling.
@R4ZZ I'm not even saying Fedor IS top 10. So let's drop Fedor now cause I haven't said anything about him. And at your subliminal discrediting of Sylvia, he was ranked in the top 5 when he fought Fedor. Alistair winning this tournament isn't impossible but I can't see it happening. If he wins, again I'll give him props.
Overeem is awesome, fun to watch and pretty humble but alot of you bandwagon fans are getting waaaaay to ahead of yourselves...Tomorrow night will be his first top 10 guy at HW he's faced..I think he has the potencial to be the best in the world and beat all the heavyweights but it certainly wont be easy...First step is Werdum, who is no pushover and I actually think he might win...but I hope for a Ko by Overeem
@steroidsischeating K i understand your point, but Ronnie Coleman's job is to be as jacked as he can be. He bodybuilds, and bodybuilds only. Alistair is massive for any mixed martial athlete, or combat sports athlete in general. The amount of cardiovascular conditioning really doesn't allow for the body to uphold such a great amount of muscle mass. Any man is innocent until proven guilty, and I am a Reem fan, but I don't believe he is clear from PED's. No disrespect intended. Reem is awesome!
I knew Fedor ducted Overeem once.... but twice? If true, thats pathetic but props to Overeem to want to fight the best...Although He hasnt fought any top HW yet....that will change tomorrow and probably from here on out.....Its about time.
@kingjames1101 He doesn't take roids though. The State Athletic comission checks for roids and he has never tested possitive. He has great genetics and eats a horse a day.
@bobflet Of course he is ripped, but he is not steroid ripped. He is a big guy, but massive is people like Ronnie Cole Man, Lesnar in his WWE days, that's massive.
about fedor declining to fight alistair. why would he fight the champion (alistair) after just losing to werdum?? i'm sure he's not afraid to fight him, but that set up makes no sense.
Gotta love the Reem! Dude is really well spoken, especially thinking how many times he's been KO'ed. Hope JDS beats Cain, then unify them belts. Overeem vs JDS, UFC 155 or something, that would be fucking awesome. And Just like Carwin I will give him the benefit of the doubt till he tests positive. We aren't in the USSR, its innocent until proven guilty. Don't reply with stupid comments about cycling steroids either, I don't know how that works and neither do you so stfu.
@MooseWrecksAll lmao no, just no. Find me one top 10 opponent Overeem has faced since moving to Heavyweight in MMA? K1 wins are great but have nothing to do with MMA. Why is that so hard for people to get. Cain is number 1, JDS is number 2, Werdum is 3 etc
@maocapoeira You say Reem has ZERO ground game he won like 70% of his wins by sub. He has more Submision wins than he has KO wins. Its insane how good his ground game is dont underestimate it. He sub Vitor Belfort which nobody else has ever done since.... He dosent have wrestling but who cares he will knee them in the head those who try to take him down.
Dana white says fans want to see nick diaz vs GSP ?? I dont know what forum he is watching or what is he smoking.... what we FANS want is .. OVEREEM ON UFC !!!
@kingjames1101 When he fought at LHW he used to cut from around 230 pds...so basically he put on 20 pds of muscle (not 50 wtf) in 3 years, which is very reasonable. Have you every heard of weight lifting?
i understand that ppl dont rank overeem in the top 5 because he hasn't faced any top names, but he can only beat wots infront of him and also fedor ducked him and im sure others propably have too, i would have overeem at number 2 in the hw division anyone he's faced lately he has destroyed
@R4ZZ How did Fedor get brought up? Overeem's best win at Heavyweight is Brett Rogers! His best career win is a mentally weak Vitor Belfort. People are swinging from his nuts cause of his physique which is a stupid ass reason. Beating Werdum is in the right step but to even say he's top 10 is BS.
And Werdum 3 really? Gets booted out for losing so much in the UFC and wins one fight in Strikeforce and now he is top three? Right there says you don't know what you are saying.
@420dimebag Same with Cain bro. His only "big win" was Nog and Brock and only because their names are big. They are not top contenders in my opinion. Maybe Brock could be if he could learn not to cover up so hard. Cain has fought no one.
Im just waiting for Overeem to beat Werdum so we can get him outta the top 5. Yeah he beat Fedor but even after beating Rogers and Arlovsky Fedor wasn't even top 5. I actually think that right now even his countrymen Kharitonov would kick Fedor's sloppy fence-swinging ass.
@TerryMMA85 ohh and what A LOT of people want is not GSP vs diaz .. what we want but diaz doesnt want is Mayhem miller vs Diaz.... Dont be Scared Homie. but of course for him is better to try and get a lucky punch on GSP. and who doesnt want to try and get lucky against GSP. anyone can have a lucky punch. But he for sure is chickening out on Jason Miller. and that is what A LOT of ppl want to see ... even mayhem miller .. but .. diaz doesnt.
@1MoreRoundbrother Bigger, if at all its not much. Faster, maybe but brock crumbled from carwin and cain, you really think he could take a knee or any punch Overeem would throw at him. Brock has no BJJ, nothing like alistar. Stronger, I dont see brock 1 hitting anyone even with the cleanest of punches. Its not his fault nobody wants to fight him either, who wants a KO on their record? Brock has fought like 7 times, thats something to HAHAHAHAHAHA at. Oh yea and he lost 2 times out of those 7
Great interview. Overeem is one of the most eloquent fighters out there.
1st class mma fighter, he always delivers a good fight, great style, and a cool cat, nice interview ariel, cheers
You know, hes really making me a fan. Well spoken,educated and ready/willing to stomp skulls. War REEM!
@Gurpreet25

Winner of the Gran Prix vs winner of Velazquez vs JDS= my mouth watering!
Great questions- all class.
OVEREEM VS LESNAR! SOMEONE MAKE THAT SHIT HAPPEN!
Alistair is so humble. Fuck the ranking. Put him against any fighters and just look at the odds the betters gives you; he's always the favourite.
@therealearthmunkey
I can easily see Overeem winning. He has the tools to beat anyone at HW. I would call him the favorite to win. As for Top 10 status I would rank him at #8 or #9 right now. Sherdog ranks Werdum #3 so Overeem should be Top 5 with a win. This fight is the turning point of his career.

1:26 The typical dutch "give me a moment to not screw myself up by answering that question honestly" look ;)
When Alistair joins the UFC the HW division better be ready!
Overeem is a very sober guy, very rational indeed, pretty smart guy. Intelligence is what helpes in the fights. Overeem doesn't just go balls to the wall, he's an intelligent fighter and you can hear it from his talking.

overeem is just pure power hope he takes the over power ufc Ariel q&a is the best
HW title defenses are the most special in mma , they hardly occur , it's been such a long since a dominant champion , we miss FEDOR !
@awhislyle No, he just said that in 2 years he'll probably be fighting in the UFC. His contract is almost up, and I'm sure once it is, he will be signed. Dana just wants him to win the GP first, so he has something to market him with in the States.

man im always more excited for strikeforce cards than any other ufc card lately.
im picking overeem via homicide
cant wait to see this fight... at least this would be better then dos santo vs carwin
this guy is a BEAST
@TheMightySPLovesMe i think it brought it up cause he was really wandering what he meant... anyways the interview was intersting!
fuck yeah, been waiting so long for this fight, stupid delay
Executions scheduled for Texas this week
Monday-John Balentine(Cancelled)
Wednesday- Lee Taylor
Saturday-Fabricio Werdum
You are my son, Ariel. That's NOT disrespectful. That's an honor.
@MooseWrecksAll Top 10 heavyweights: 1. Cain 2. JDS 3. Lesnar 4.Overeem 5.Carwin 6.Mir 7.Fedor 8.Noguiera 9. Werdum 10. Brandom Shuaub/Big Foot Silva
@Gurpreet25
Now as far as him using his size to his advantage why not? A fighter uses every advantage he has. Reach. Speed. Strength. Physical attributes matter however Overeem proved he can beat big strong men recently like Duffee and Rogers. His top game against Brett Rogers was insane!

@Mehdoozi
gsp is not overrated. obviously you haven't seen him train, haven't seen who he trains with and you haven't seen him compete.
@MysticNinjaJay
haha where did he show this great grappling skills on the ground?. Shogun? Arona? Werdum? Overeem is still a one dimensional fighter who does uses his size to have an advantage.
is 'cage rust' Mr Helwanis new catch phrase?
when it comes to one liners Jonard Frank Labiak, im ross are hard guys to beat
best wishes
wow he seems confident
WE WANT OVEREEM ON UFC !
@TerryMMA85 i understand that,but now its the same owner so it will be same rules for strikeforce and for UFC, i mean on rules for contracts, so everybody wants to see him on UFC.

@Spinner12345 Cause the NHL playoffs are over, it was his playoff beard.
GET HIM TO THE UFC!
Why didn't you ask him about the JDS/Carwin fight, Ariel??!!
WTH, journalism amateur!
@chadley6916 i agree but nelson? i dont think nelson would
everyone is always like blah blah fedor needs to be in the UFC, but i am more interested in this guy coming to the ufc. he seems like he could make some waves.
@jasonatme I'd say:
1. Overeem
2. Cain
3. JDS
I personally think that Cain and JDS are still amateurs compared to Overeem in terms of experiance, but hey, thats just my opinion.
@Mehdoozi
Fedor is a bum if GSP is considered over rated.
@MooseWrecksAll Werdum won 2 fights before the loss to Junior, then he got fired. He is an accomplished grappler on the world level, and he has won 3 fights in strikeforce acutally, including fedor and bigfoot. That right there tells me YOU dont know what you're talking about.
@jasonatme damn straight ! and for me, overeem has the potential to be number one.

yeh overeem has all kinds of belts but the thing is once he wins one he won't defend it

At least hes not bullying Ariel around just cause hes big enough to do so.
Go Uncle
Offically Top 5 actually.
Where Alistairs tight sky blue t-shirt. That was the shit
@Sandals62 The only real problem I see with your list is Cain at 1.
@CombatSportzFan He has more mma fights than bruk lesnar, cain laskez and shane carwin combine.
Ariel why didn't you explain to him that calling him son is an insult? You should have explained it to him but I guessed you were pressed for time.
@steroidsischeating K i understand your point, but Ronnie Coleman's job is to be as jacked as he can be. He bodybuilds, and bodybuilds only. Overeem grey ridiculously big, ridiculously fast, man get me some of that "horse meat".
@bobflet Of course he is ripped, but he is not steroid ripped. He is a big guy, but massive is people like Ronnie Cole Man, Lesnar in his WWE days, that's massive.

@aaronCapricorn
mma top 5 ? no way. he last fought todd duffe and bret rogers before that. that doesn't put you in top 5.
lol at the horse meat burp at 5:07
@maocapoeira You say Reem has ZERO ground game he won like 70% of his wins by sub. He has more Submision wins than he has KO wins. Its insane how good his ground game is dont underestimate it. @bobflet naw he dont do roids
top heavyweight striker .vs. top heavyweight grappler
In my opinion REEM beats Dos Santos, Brock, Carwin, and Fedor. Im not sure about Cain to be honest!
Luck, LOL. Either you lose via Sub, TKO, or KO. There is no KO option Luck = you had a magic star that kicked your opponents ass'.
@jasonatme Hey thats my top 3 as well but I being 3rd on this list still means you're still championship material
Ariel must be like 6'3" to be standing at that level with Alistair (who is 6'5").
Baddest fighter on the planet? Boxing, mma, K-1 etc
hard not to like this guy, real humble........ fuck the GP, if he beats werdum get him over to ufc to fight jds or cain
@kingjames1101 When he fought at LHW he used to cut from around 230 pds...so basically he put on 20 pds of muscle (not 50 wtf) in 3 years, which is very reasonable. Have you every heard of weight lifting?
@derbigpr500 OVEREEM is great but has not fight many top contenders lately, so you cant put him 1, but he surely has the potential to.
overeem would dismantle brock, how can someone honestly place him higher
i understand that ppl dont rank overeem in the top 5 because he hasn't faced any top names, but he can only beat wots infront of him and also fedor ducked him and im sure others propably have too, i would have overeem at number 2 in the hw division anyone he's faced lately he has destroyed

Overeem vs Lesnar
And Werdum 3 really? Gets booted out for losing so much in the UFC and wins one fight in Strikeforce and now he is top three? Right there says you don't know what you are saying.

Can i fight the people that thumbs down Overeem?
Steroids make you really ripped or really massive, Overeem is not really ripped or really massive, he is 255lbs and a big dude.
watch one video of his brother then get this recommended to me wtf
isnt he the heavyweight champ in SF?
Oh yea and he lost 2 times out of those 7
@09Ginster It's my opinion. And what is yours?
