    God, I want it. That's the stuff right there. Almost a dinghy, but has basically everything a bigger boat has. For most local cruising it's perfect, and it's so, so pretty.

      This. This boat would be *perfect* for someone looking to get into sailing. They've seen the videos, don't know a darn thing about sailing, but think they want to get into the hobby. You could learn to sail, day sail this thing all day long, coastal cruise for a weekend, have practically no maintenance or significant upkeep costs, and then move up to something more substantial if you like it. And if not, you turn around and sell the boat for next to nothing and you're out practically nothing. Great boat.

      @@jeffcanar7294 I agree. I started in a 22ft southcoast pre-covid. Small trailer sailor is the place to start if you got bit by the covid youtube sailing bug. Low financial risk, comfortable enough for a weekend anchored, more reactive when learning to sail, and a few cranks on the center board for when you eventually ground it. Not to mention, that low draft is a great anchoring insurance policy for when things go sideways. While I've since graduated to have standing headroom in the head, the lessons learned on the little boat have me confidently single handing a much larger vessel. Listen to the capt. Start your sailing adventures here (or similar) to not become yet another new sailor in too far over their heads to enjoy the journeys.

    So nice to see some love for the "glamper" (a term I first heard from my wife). We love to camp on our boat (Mac 26S), and love that we can trailer it wherever we want. Sometimes less really is more!

    This shows the TH-cam crowd exactly why they should be taking note of Capt'n Q podcasts. After 4 odd years of looking at hundreds if not 1,000's of different boats and hull designes, I have to say that this one is the most unique one of them all. Is it possible for Captain Q to outdo himself in ever finding a more unique boat than this? I've already shared this video with a lot of people. Thanks

    I owned a Nimble 24 and loved it. So many memories. I had to install a blower to bring fresh air into the motor well. Buy a new 2.5 gallon bug sprayer and install a kitchen faucet sprayer for a great shower. Berths in the main cabin are over 7 ft long. The boat received admiring glances and seemed to be a photo magnet. Thanks for taking me back in time.

      I truly enjoyed the boat. When tacking , remember to release the sheet on the mizzen. Centerboard down to help with steerage. No anchor line storage on deck, kept our chain and line in a mesh bag attached to the pulpit. Kept in a freshwater lake, we had a few blisters. Check the rudder for any delamination. Also, a weld on the rudder extension around the mizzenmast failed at one point. A simple weld fixed it. Loved the boat. Happiest days spent aboard.

    • @chetcreates
      @chetcreates ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, owing to the hull shape, it was best to sail rather than motor when pointing as the flat bottom would pound on the waves. Heeling presented a wedge to the waves, instead of a flat surface.

    Probably the best story telling video yet. The content here is viewable a half dozen times there is so much to see. Captain Q you nailed it with the camper comment. It's classical for such a small boat though. Can't you just see this as a gift to your grandchildren one Christmas to say welcome to sailing. I would have died at 13 to have this. Treehouse privacy with a life skill training functionality. I would be tempted to buy it myself for my granddaughters but they're 3 and 1 so might be too early. It's like your first motorcycle or car , if you had an MG midget lol. Thank you so much guys for this amazing find. You are the man Captain Q.

  • @mboyer68
    @mboyer68 ปีที่แล้ว

    Form stability. I have first hand experience with form stability and I'm here to agree with Q that is a big deal. I learned how to windsurf on an old board that had a small daggerboard, a round bottom and round rails (sides). Then I bought a modern board. It had a flat bottom with sharp rails. What a huge difference! I know windsurfing is far removed from a big sailboat, but the physics is the same, just bigger! The stability of the flat bottom and 90° edges and big deep daggerboard was night and day. The daggerboard sticking way down in the water also gives you resistance from rolling side to side whether you're on a 6' board or a 30' sailboat. The coolest thing is after windsurfing I got into catamaran racing. I bought a book and it showed the vector diagram (it's a physics/math thing, I'm an engineer) and I learned that when you're sailing, you're being sucked forward by the low pressure system on the back side of the sail. That's how a sailboat moves. The sail is a vertical wing, and just like an airplane wing, the curved side is where the lift occurs. So there's lift on the back side of the sail, the keel and rudder oppose the lift, oppose the downwind force and voila, you go forward. The book was "catamaran racing for the 90s" by Rick White. In the book he explains how to fold a piece of paper just right, and then you blow across the paper and it lifts up towards your breath, when it should move down away from your breath, proving that lift is occurring on the back side of your sail. It's so cool! So crazy! Sailing is delightful, it's magic. Pure magic. Even when you understand the physics of it, there's still mystery, awe, and a childlike excitement. Thank you Randy and Q for such great videos! Just imagine guys, imagine 100 years from now, your videos and many of those indestructible fiberglass boats...people will still be watching and sailing them!

    You said it twice: "yachty". Cast brass fixtures, plenty of woodwork, floor grates and wicker doors, beautiful tiller and two masts. Any owner must not be afraid to pay the upkeep dues for something classy, as shown by ownership of an MG. I do worry that the wood staining is not as easy to fix as you predict. Perhaps the owner prefers to spend more hours on the MG.

    After becoming so disabled that I could no longer sail, I bought a 20’ Nimble Nomad mini trawler which used this same hull. It had been laid up with a plug in the rear to enabled mounting up to a 30 hp (I believe) outboard motor. It also had the motor enclosed with a hinged access from the top. I used a 20 hp Honda which caused the rear of the boat to reach hull speed at less than half throttle. Wish I could post a photo here.

    I'd love to see the Captain try and get into the "cabin" on my 16 foot Cherry trailer sailer. They claim it can sleep 2 adults and 2 kids, but where i'm unsure. I slithered under the cockpit along a so called 1/4 berth and I went in head first, getting back out took a long time of twisting and bending with a lot of swearing, a near claustrophobic panic attack and after 15 minutes I was freed from it's clutches. I learnt a big lesson that day, never attempt to go in head first again, this ex bricklayers 60 year old body just ain't as supple as it once was

    With that capsize rating do you think she'd be safe to take from Florida down to the Bahamas what with having to cross the gulf stream and a hundred miles plus miles? I know you'd have to find a pretty much perfect weather window to attempt it. I also know people who've made that voyage on Hobie'Cats so there is that. Loosing one of those is not that big of a deal and you can right them pretty easily even solo. If it were capable of that crossing I think this little thing would be an awesome platform to bomb around the islands on. I know there are a lot more Dingy Sailing groups out there today and even though she isn't a "Dingy" I think she'd fit right in with some of those. Another very neat find gents and I like the Captain's scoring system it makes things much more personal and gives a glimpse into his thoughts on vessels overall...
    Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless.
