With the Mid-autumn festival coming closer, it is just the right season to enjoy Konjac. I took two konjac plants from my neighbour and made a whole pot of konjac tofu. I also baked some Yunnan ham mooncakes as usual. Besides, I made some traditional buckwheat pancakes with shiso seeds and sesame. These are all familiar flavours to us. Each time I make mooncakes, I got a feeling that the dough is just like the days went by. This autumn is just like the last autumn, but is filled with new memories as well.

Konjac was banned for sale in the US after small children choked on the gelatin because it expands. Now it’s allowed as long as it has a chocking advisory. So awesome to see what the plant looks like. Thank you so much for your videos they are so educational and bring me peace during these tough times. 🙏❤️
This is false -- small children choked on the mini-cup jelly candies made with konjac because the way they ate them was by "slurping" them, and the force of this "slurping" caused the jellies to get lodged in the throat-- becoming a choking hazard. It wouldn't matter if the candy were to be made with gelatin (which is not konjac), because the method of consumption in jelly candy form is dangerous. Konjac root fibre, glucomannan is banned as a fibre supplement because if it is eaten in high enough doses it causes stomach blockage (as it expands alot in the presence of water). To get to that level of hazardous consumption, you need to be eating the pure, isolated fibre supplement version -- which the exact opposite form of konjac used in traditional cuisine.

My favorite part of this video is when you can see Penji be like “Wow, this IS spicy! I wish I had a cold dish to lighten the spiciness” and then instant 💡 when she remembered her cold jelly noodle dish! So cute!
