    It is written in 2/2 which means that there are 2 strong beats per bar (the first of each group of 3 left hand triplet crotchets). The right hand is only written in triplet quavers so that there will be 2 right hand notes per single left hand note (the only way to get 2 in the right for 1 in the left being of the triplet family - if you mix families, you will get cross or polyrythms). The question we could ask is why not use non triplet semiquavers in the right hand and quavers in the left hand? Why did the composer use triplets instead of semiquavers or why not use non triplet quavers in the right hand and regular crotchets in the left hand? It seems that he didn't want it to be played as fast as one would feel influenced by semiquavers or as slow as one might feel regular quavers should be for the right hand part. It could have also been because he wanted the triplet flow of the left hand to be the guide for the direction of the pulse. If Chopin wanted it to sound like there are 3 strong beats in the bar then he would have likely written it as quavers in the right hand and crotchets in the left hand the time signature would have been 3/2. Seeing that he is the master of the Waltz, it is unlikely that he would have made it so difficult to interpret the rhythm or metre of this piece especially having written the Minute Waltz which shows that he is quite capable of making it sound the way it is described for this Etude in the video if he wanted to write it that way, but he didn't. Having said all of that, I thought that this teacher was a very kindhearted person who obviously enjoys working with children and should continue giving masterclasses because children will be encouraged by her style of teaching.

      Sorry, I am currently learning this etude and I am not sure that I am playing the triplets as it was meant to. I play 2 strong beats per bar, 1 strong beat every 6 notes on the RH (First note in every 2 triplets) and 1 strong beat every 3 notes on the LH (First note in every triplet). Am I already practicing and playing this piece the correct way? If I am practicing it the wrong way, please elaborate more and explain to me where to put the strong beats. Thank you very much

      @@Drew-zc5bm I’m also playing this Étude and personally I wouldn’t put a strong beat on every 6 notes or whatever, it would seem a bit repetitive.

      You are absolutely right! It is completely different music, if played properly 3-3 3-3! Differnet phrasing! Much harder ot learn, and possibly out of reach for some learners.
