- Within the motocross industry, we are all familiar with the sacrifice families make for their children in order for them to race the biggest amateur motocross races in the country. Out of the thousands of families that chase this dream, only a select few ever garner the attention of a factory amateur team, let alone find themselves under the factory tent. This has always made us wonder: who are the gate keepers? How do they select the next talent? How do they manage the young children and their parents? The answer(s)? Enter the 2021 JS7 Spring National Championship in Wortham, TX and Ryan Holliday, Team Green Kawasaki manager.
ALL IN - Part One: Team Green Kawasaki sits down with Team Green manager, Ryan Holliday, to explore these very questions, while watching his current crop of athletes do battle at Freestone County Raceway. Holliday’s open and point-blank insight into the process of finding the talent, how to keep them from imploding, to the glaring flaws within long-term factory amateur contracts, and the fact that most will never make their dreams a reality, sheds a light on the ALL IN mentality that both families and the factory amateur programs must have when, essentially, using their crystal ball to predict a future with a minimal rate of success.

Ever since vurb shut down a while back we never had another website, etc. That devotes to the amatuer scene, I remember vurb doing all the amateur races and we had a very good idea on who the new up and comers were, we don't have that anymore!! Vurb , you need to bring it back like this video
We've barely skimmed the surface. 2021 we proved what we could do on very few dollars and financial resources. If 22' goes to plan, you can only imagine what's possible with a bit of budget! Appreciate the nice words and we're very excited to continue being the historians of our sport.

If the cost to participate in the sport wasn't out of reach for most kids they would have a bigger talent pool unlike most sports.. But you still got to earn it.

@@GoldCountryTrapping I been pretty fortunate & was able to race for many years myself & Today I fund my kids to do so & last year alone I spent almost 6 figures for him to compete that is more than the mass majority make in a year it is out of reach for many & that is unfortunate for the sport it is a lot of missed talent people will never know or see.
@@CoolcatAMA-Pro always the deal with racing sadly. Racing is expensive, always has been, only going to cost more as it evolves.
The amateur scene as a whole for this sport is a complete joke sadly.
Money is a huge factor but money doesn’t buy talent
Great Video vurbmoto, that was our dream 25 years ago. We had six of us start the season with hopes of all qualifying for Loretta's by August and sharing the cost of the trip to Tennessee. At the start of the last race in Baton Rouge we were down to two due to injuries. When the Louisiana/Texas series was finally over I was the last one standing. This video brought back the hopes and struggles we face while chasing the dream of being a motocross star.
I know this is about Team Green but man Levi Kitchen has really impressed me. I remember riding with him when I was younger. Kid is fast as hell

At 43 I remember seeing millsaps on 80’s and Stewart on 125 and that’s to name the highlights, Stewart sat in the 90* heat with tinted goggles and helmet on in the staging area forever, you wanna see intimidation he had everyone beat before the gate dropped but a long shot from Ringgold Tony Graham grabbed the hole shot in both stock classes only to be passed by #JS7 in the second corner both motos, just to pull the hole shot on the fastest man on the planet must have been unreal I suppose
Tony was such a good starter, I remember when I was 12 I hurt my finger really bad on a trampoline and was worried about it hurting that weekend at a race in VA. And my sad told me "Grammer broke his collarbone last weekend and he's racing, you can suck it up with a sore finger" 😅..I sucked it up and rode like crap that weekend, but I did ride bc of that comment.
This was bad ass! My dream job is to make these videos! I love how the music ties in everything and the filming is on point. Shows all the ups n downs and the behind the scenes. Gave me chills. I want to film for vurb moto.

The stress level is so high with his job, it takes the "dream" out of the job.
I’ve been around the sport for over 30 years I know what the job takes and yeah there’s a shit ton of stress. But at the end of the day your bringing up the new talent that will eventually take over the sport. And it’s on the best team to ever do the amateur scene with a hell of a pedigree

Thank you for creating this video, I am a new MX Dad, with my oldest son who is 5 now racing Tyke up here in Canada and a 3 year old ripping on his Stacyc. I am trying to learn everything I can about MX, specifically tips I can coach my son. It has been a humbling experience, and I have spent more time listening and not saying a lot to my son as the “on” switch comes on when he lines up at the gate. He just loves riding dirt bikes and I will follow his lead on the path forward.
Have fun with it and let your son’s passion lead the way. Sounds like you’re doing it the right way. Good job pops!!
Best thing you can do is make friends with other mx dads and fast guys at the local track. You will learn so many tips and tricks and lots of the ins and outs of the sport that way as time goes on. Also making friends across the community could help you and your sons get connections across the industry.
@@hudson8810 Thanks for that advice. I have connected with other MX dads, as my son’s electric bike gets a lot of interest. Definitely allows me to answer some questions and then ask my own. We are half way through the race season, today being my son’s first time grabbing a hole shot, incredible feeling to see that happen on a very muddy, technical course. The race organizer called my son the Silent Assassin…man this sport is awesome.
Been watching Jett since he was on 50s. Kid has alot of talent. Hope he does well on big bikes. Great family too

Nothing wrong with having a deal for the pros before your last year at Lorreta’s, at that stage that’s the goal, is to get to the pros and compete at a high level so props to anyone who is given that opportunity. Winning another amateur national is great but means nothing in the trajectory of a pro career. Another thing, most of these kids don’t have it that good and A lot of them are much more dedicated than stated bc the sheer amount of time and money invested into the sport. This Team green manager just rubs me the wrong way, reeks of arrogance.
Good to see Ryan holiday used to race with him back in 90s district 5 in the Pittsburgh area.

The "progress" in the sport has taken a lot of fun out of it, but it is good to get these kids paid at a young age, because we all know Motocross careers can be very short. Dungey was one of the few that got serious a bit later in life and became a champ.
Every sport has progress in it even football or mma it will take the fun out of it but aslong as you want to do it.

Train build your cardio the faster you go the more important it is this video didn’t really cover how important it is to train off the bike all the top riders had training coaches. If you can be as strong as first lap at end of Moto you will be winning or coming close being fit can also mean less injuries. Brrrrrrrrrrrp

I think he is going to disappoint you buddy. So many things HAVE to go right.... He has the talent, and he probably works very hard... and has huge amounts of fame and success, since he was 12.. He is a Deegan, He will be successful without Motocross. I honestly think he will be a Pro maybe a few years, he might have some good races as a pro where he shows flashes of greatness, but I think he will eventually quit and basically take a backseat in the Industry and make free-rider style TH-cam videos like Buttery Films ...He will just be a representative of the sport in other ways.... and honestly, He can get paid way more doing that... but we shall see.

Biggest difference between the older generation and the new is the fact that the dream is pushed on to a lot of kids by age 4. If your not a phenom now a days your nothing.

Look at Cooper Webb he went to public school and didn't come from money or live at a training facility . No fancy factory Loretta setup just determined and skilled.

Honestly the sport is way too expensive and way too dangerous, to really have a future. The financial bar to enter is way too high for the majority of people, basically an entire family has to sacrifice their livelyhood to have a shot.. this is exemplified in Villapotos, Stewarts, etc.. stories.. how many families have lost everything to finance the motocross dreams of their kids? A LOT more than people are willing to admit.
If this sport is to have a future, first the bikes need to be cheaper. There is no reason for fancy electronic fuel injecting, etc.etc.etc. Just go back to 2 stroke, or if 4 strokes make them carburated, etc. cut costs on the bikes everywhere. It is possible to make a decent motocross bike for sub $5000. And if everyone is racing on the same (lowered) tech, the races are going to be equally exciting and even more tight than now.
Also the danger of the sport needs to be addressed. For example, the american tracks seem to much more dangerous than european tracks in general. If a european comes up short on a triple or double it won't be at the cost of literraly breaking his neck and being paralyzed. Thus the europeans are more relaxed mentally, and as an effect are now faster than the americans who are under more stress.
......could write a book on this one.... coming from a former pro in the sport... anyways ,,,,

Racing for fun vs Racing to win are two entirely different things.
A lot of people Need to realize that 1 or 2 guys get a chance out of all the kids that ride a dirt bike

It also helps mommy and daddy are rich to send their kids to training facilities year after year during the offseason . Only sport i know that you can buy your way into it. Hard for a kid to compete in the different seasons in the midwest. Seen it first hand. 🤷♂️
What about Krystain Janik? Kid is on Team Green kawasaki from Illinois. Doesn't ride training facilities every day. Kid smokes local a riders on his supermimi. I've seen him to do it.
Big money only helps. Doesn't make the rider, doesn't make the human a harder worker. Or more determined. What it does do is give the less fortunate an excuse. Instead of just focusing on yourself and truly giving it your all.
this has always been a rich kid sport at least for a couple of years now. like when they interview weimer dad they had to sell a couple of acres to continue racing.. lol like your average joe barely can pay a house

It’s definitely harder to be the top guy without being rich and having a trainer. But not impossible. My nephew Aiden Mckiddie is going for a 50cc championship this year at Loretta’s and he mainly just races the big races and rides tracks his dad (Vmac tracks) builds during the week. No trainer or program yet. Gotta keep it fun or the kids get burned out at an early age. This is what I’ve seen more than anything. We’ve been in the sport since the mid 1990’s.
Team Green have all been busts the last 10 years.

Alot teams fizzle out because money. Period. Family never had money for me to race. Only ever watching 1 race. That year I had 26 overall 1st place 3 2nds 3 3rds 1 4th. Dumped everything I had in my quad. For A class the economy took a shit only saw the track 3 times afterwards
with the traction control coming and the death of the minis to 4 strokes any rider will be lucky if he can survive long enough in one piece to even ride a 450. The hi speeds requiring ever less talent and skill. as the speed comes more and more from the wallet and the pits.. The sport needs a steward like nascar does widening the classes and nurturing talent instead of splatting their ACLs before they get to a HS Prom.. If business sets the racing standards or rather eliminates them the entire sport will fade away as it stands it needs a lifeline more classes and Eng "build" rules as it stand they only have two classes witch is really one, 250s and 450s are the same thing same race craft , more money = more speed .

i had nothing my mother gave me dirty looks and cursed me for riding i had to buy my bikes on my own i had a big paper route cut grass shovel snow and bought my 79 yz 80 with my own money i had to hide it at at friends or i would have been punished so yea it was tough but i made expert and dont regret spending thousands of dollars to ride southwick and unadilla nationals in 91-92 missed the mains by 3 bikes sometimes 2 but got to practice with the big boys for a bit what fun so kids please embrace and cherish your time and your all very lucky to have good parents to back you up.
