Then blue beast came out and un-did ultra broly, and this guy was good again… and just gradually fell off from there. The thing that held him back most was the lack of cover null, but nothing else save for defense… but Ultimate Gohan and Gotenks can cover that for him, now.

I think this trunks is better if you run with another main carry and a tank. He can be the offensive support. Dragon fist goku on release was not a threat enough for opponent so him being on the field wasn't that great. At least with this one he has the damage to be a threat on field. With how long matches are now, you can make full uses of trunks ability to just spam specials every match.
As soon as I saw in the reveals that his zenkai ability didn't give a buff to any of the new characters, I already knew that it was going to be a pretty bad zenkai since it's clear that his zenkai is only made to be a bench zenkai for green hybrids.
