Every time I watch one of your videos Julia I just can’t wait to get into my sewing room and create something. Your projects are amazing. I finally finished a thrifted jeans bag for my teenage granddaughter (from one of your previous videos) and I am really pleased with how it turned out. However, I made lots of mistakes and had to unpick a number of times but it’s all learning. Thank you so much for all the inspiration you give us. Xx
This is the absolute best DIY bag I have ever seen. It's perfect!!!! I can't wait to try this. I'm new to sewing, but you explained everything perfectly!
Hi Julia, greeting from New Zealand. I just am amazed at the ideas you come up with. The bag is absolutely charming, the colours are cheerful and I love the added bit of lace and flowers, it's like looking add an old English garden. Thank you for sharing and lifting my day. 💕💕
Hi Julia, What a wonderful project. I just love it. The tip I have for the box zipper. It is usually sewed on to the lining, I hope this will help you. I have several jeans I cut the tops off and didn't know what to do. I think I will give this a try. As always thank you for sharing.
Hi Janet, Most of the instructions that I have been gathering suggest attaching to the lining. I was struggling with keeping the top the natural curve of the jeans - I always seem to make things more complicated LOL! Thanks so much for watching, Julia
There are some tutorials saying dropped zipoer in a lining, something lije that but I've not got that process to work on bag like this. Tried a few times and took out.
To avoid the dip in the front of your bag, sew horizontal darts along the back of your bag in the area where belt loops are attached. Thank you for the wax paper tip to make your own pattern pieces, and all your inspiration!
Hi Lorie! It's one of the best books! The illustrations are so great and is packed with information. Let me know what you think, thanks for watching, Julia
I’ve been using and making Jean purses/bags since the 70’s my last one I made I put 1 1/2” rings on each end on the inside. Since we don’t use keys anymore I put my key rings on small hooks( pick them up anywhere) and hang them on the rings at the ends, they are secure but within distance of the ignition to start the car and since they are on hooks they are easy to remove should you need them.
I make similar jean bags! Girls jeans are better because not hippie. If using women's and nit cutting into 2 bags I turn sideways and make big hobo bag. I use legs bit make a strapmvery wide at bottom and taper to middle. If cutting the way you did I pin waistband very even together at top with many pins before cutting legs. If yiu want bottom longer unpick front crotch seam and flatten mire, realigning how it lays, top stitch back down. I also box corners! I buy bling jeans What I learned was how to do zipper if leavung waistband on! Thanks so much!
Hi Julia - I love how this bag turned out. So pretty! I’ve done the zipper encased in fabric like that before for bags a couple different ways. Depends on the look you are going for as to how you sew it in. The denim is harder to sew through than fabric to fabric, so the hand sewing was perfect to add the lining. I love the fabric by Laura Heine. Did you get it at Hobby Lobby too? I would love to have some to fussy cut those flowers out. They are so fun and whimsical looking. Perfect for making appliqué with. Hope you are having a great week. It’s been raining here for the past couple of days with more to come tonight and tomorrow. Still rather warm for October. I’ll take all the warm days happily. Hugs! 💕☀️🧵
Hi Pam, So great hearing from you! I picked the Laura Heine fabric up from my local quilt shop. I just got it last week so should still be out there. Her line is amazing and is constantly changing. I can't believe our beautiful Fall here in MN. We still haven't had a hard freeze and 70's during the day. The changing leaves have been breathtaking this year. God is Good! Have a great week, Julia
HI, Good tip! I think that would work and sew on the previous stitch line. I tricky part for me was keeping the natural curve of the jean top. It all got a bit more complicated! Thanks for watching, Julia
Cool. I have one i haven't finished. I wonder why the zipperr piece wasn't added to the lining and then attached with the lining. I thought at first you were not going to do a lining. I can't decide on mine.
That is a cute bag Julia. I liked the stitch you used for chain stitch. It was very decorative. Did you use multi colored purple thread ? Was that a bigger setting on the machine. I just loved how that looks. I guess it will take some fiddling to get it right. ☺️
Hi Freeda, I am using a pinkish multi colored thread for this cross-stitch decorative stitch. I am using a Janome Memory Craft sewing machine and it stitches up to a 9mm width. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
I love this way of adding the zipper. Thank you Julia.

I absolutely love this bag!!! Great idea! I now look for fabric that I can use as embellishments on projects!!
Hi Pam, I'm always looking for "embellishment" fabrics too. It's fun to combine different ones and create new. Thanks so much for watching, Julia

Making my daughter with the zipper.ty😍

I love it! Could you possibly use a clear thread to sew in the lining?
HI, Good tip! I think that would work and sew on the previous stitch line. I tricky part for me was keeping the natural curve of the jean top. It all got a bit more complicated! Thanks for watching, Julia

Hi, I think either way would work. I don't usually follow a pattern. I try to do what is the easiest.
looks great :D

Watching this again! How on earth did you get the edging on the pockets stitched on? 😆 I'm racking my brain and it hurts! Lol!
HI Brenda, I wasn't able to reach all the way into the corners but was able to turn enough back to stitch the fabric onto the middle of the pockets.
@@stitchesbyjulia OH! Like in the round but only halfway?
So it's best not to make sure back and front are not level at waste before cutting?
Hi, I've done it both ways. I'm not sure which way I like best.
❤❤❤😊
I’m making one of these today. Yours has a bit to much fabric colour.
🙏🥰🙏
