Mikey - we need to talk. You were around some of the best teas in the world and you brought home a stash of ramen? Look up Gung Fu Tea Ceremony and you will understand about tea. Buy yourself a Gaiwan to make your tea in. I would love to see you learn and show us tea videos.
Thank you for taking us on your trip. I have really enjoyed your vids and you seem to make the most of it. My cousin, a KAL captain, married a girl from Taipai and it is interesting to see where they live part of the time. Thanks, Mike! Barb
I watch your videos all the way in Jamaica and I love them. I'm subscribed to all your channels. Watching the vlogs has really open my appetite to visit Asian countries. Keep up the good work.
Oh wow. Your schedule is so packed, "busy Mike". It's good able to travel all over, but do find time to have a good rest whenever you have the chance. Busy traveling without good rest is not good to your body at all.
Love your channel. Have learned and drooled a lot! I never knew there was so much delicious chinese food out there. i am dying to try it all. So far I have tried making some dumplings, its really fun and delicious,., next stop - soup dumplings! and then hopefully one day visit china! If you ever come to Denmark, consider yourself invited to try some traditional homecooked danish food. Keep up the good work.
We were just at this tea shop yesterday. It was a lovely experience and we bought some delicious teas. The staff were great and we were lucky that the lady who poured us teas spoke fluent english. My boyfriend was looking around because he thought the space looked familiar. Then he looked up your channel and he was right, you had visited this shop as well. To sound like dorks, we were excited about it. ^^
Have you visited Jiufen near Keelung, Taiwan yet? It's not far from Taipei, but it will probably be clustered by mainlander tourists (like the museum you visited before). BUT, it's worth the trip if you've never gone. The food in that mountain village is delicious and the view from the top is amazeballs.
Hah - the rain! I don't know if you experienced the same rain I did, but I was at the Taipei Zoo on Saturday, August 27th, and it just came down really hard all of a sudden!
Your videos are so good. I watch like popular TH-cam vloggers but they are so boring but when I watch your videos they are awesome. Keep up the awesome work :)
you saw the rain, yeah!!!...so interesting the lesson of tea and totally new for me, thank you!! :D....excited to see your vid of Korea...kisses over there :)
Fascinating, I didn't know about the advantages of using small pot for my tea. I'm also a nut for bad weather. When in Korea, try some yaki mandu (served in rolled-up news paper) from a street vendor. Salty, fried, goodness.
Mike, if you really like the rain.....come visit the Pacific Northwest....I'd bet you'd like Seattle ! I love the rain too, so I'm so glad that after a few days of sun we usually get a nice day of rain.
I'm a new viewer of your videos. I enjoy them a lot. I'll be in San Francisco in 3 weeks, you should do (if you haven't done already) a SF video. I know a great tea tasting place in Chinatown and a few holes in the wall ;)
I travel to China once a year to visit family, and every time we go, my family gives us like 5 bags of tea, and over the last 3-5 years we have gone, we have accrued so much tea. Unfortunately, I don't drink tea that often, so our 20ish bags are all inside of my pantry, and last time i got some from my uncle, he was like "Here's some tea you can put in your pantry that we can drink next time we visit you in the United States".
It's probably some kind of Oolong. Taiwanese Oolongs in my experience is very light with s honey aftertaste. It's usually more relaxing than stimulating.
Wow I'm so looking forward to your Korea trip! Wait, do you have any friends over there to help you with translating? Or are you going to use Google translate on the go?
I can't believe i missed this.... it takes nothing to get me to drink a cup of tea.... and you just showed me an entire natural store.... out of the tub.... straight to soak some moringa and spice leaf.... yessss..... yessssss.... i wonder if i have ginger in the fridge..... @_____________@
very very cool! wish we had a tea place like that here. loved that ceramic pot, very pretty. and don't make me hungry! XD it's almost time for me to go to bed, don't make my stomach keep me up. and omg yes! I love the rain. it's so relaxing. hope you have a good and safe trip! :)
Bro whut? You're visiting Korea? I'm so excited :D I'm half Korean but never had the opportunity to there... so while I'm interested in Asian culture in general, I'm especially hyped for your trip there because I love your vlogs! Have fun for me ;D
Gong fu guru, is the only way to get all of the flavors and none of the bitterness or astringency. Though, brewing western style is ok for tea bags, for most teas, you should brew gong fu guru, so that it will not be bitter, and only brew for 5-60 seconds.
So I have recently tried a dim sum restaurant and they serve a Chinese green tea with it. do you know what kind of tea they normally serve with dim sum? it was a loose leaf and very good and I'd like to make some at home.
He was "spilling" the first wash, which you're not supposed to drink. It's to wet the leaves and warm the cups. The first wash is also usually too bitter to drink anyway. The 'table' is actually a tea tray that drains into a reservoir beneath it. What you don't see is that the guy is likely also pouring plain hot water over the teapot throughout as well to keep the teapot at a consistently hot temperature. Hence, you need a tray to catch all the excess water.
The spilled tea is tea wash, it opens up the laves of the tea, and washes it from any dust or dirt that may have gotten into the tea for the 2nd infusion. But the second infusion you will have a more rounded and better taste of the tea than the first one. Even in some teas you can't even taste the tea that much at all in the first or second infusions, so they will rise it twice, and then they will actually be able to taste the tea. This is all a part of Gong Fu Guru tea brewing, which focuses on getting all of the flavors out of the tea, and none of the bitterness.
How come you didn't add hot oil to your tea?
lol
Why would you add hot oil to tea?
watch more of his videos

It's been so long since I've had Taiwanese tea, last time I tried it was with these exact cups from your video. Still my favorite to this day.

Is spilling half of your tea on table a part of ceremony ?
