Skyler I love this stuff the details that the general public doesn't see, the command board layout, the division chiefs and their general assignments. Great stuff. God Bless the FDNY they are New Yorks Bravest.
this was great a very interesting review especially the Command Board I always wondered how it worked thank you for a good job Skyler Fire keep it comming
Outstanding video Skyler, super informative and interesting. My dad would have loved it too, he passed away earlier this month. You and Maj always have the best coverage of FDNY. I especially enjoyed the review of the command board.
Your explanation was excellent! You clarified what an essential role the command structure does. You guys have come a long way from the volunteer truck of my youth 50 years ago with town volunteers hanging on the back of a careening fire engine speeding to a fire! I really appreciate your expertise and dedication! Stay safe! Bob
Excellent and informative video! I always wondered about the info on those command post boards and what details like those company chips turned sideways meant, thanks! I nickname those "Battleship" boards, because I swear I saw a job once where FDNY and EMS had their boards set up back to back lol. And I bet some kid out there has a homemade replica made up so they can play Chief in the backyard 😄
1:49 would have never expected to see stuff just being placed on the seats, without any cabinets / compartments built in there ... 3:32 I really like that, that's smart 4:40 again everything just thrown in? 5:30 that command bord ... they'll just set it up outside, in whatever weather condition and noise around? And all manual, without any computer?
@@SkylerFire both seem like low tech solutions which aren't really efficient to coordinate a large number of units? Sure, obviously they do so, but personally I couldn't imagine having only the board and the tent, and no actual command unit to sit inside
Skyler, Great job giving the incident report, Division Chief. 👏👏👏 The "Command Voice" was Great!!! Excellent demo of the Command Board! Those white mm magnetics, with the silhouettes of Engs, Trks, Ambs, are for out of Div. Units? I think you have future as a Division Chief!!! Nice work! Less equipment, More Management! ⬜Helmet Territory! 👍👍👍
Great video as always. Top notch! Still miss the ford excursion chief trucks. Just a question do you know what the black pucks are on the drivers fender and passenger side rear tailgate?
Great inside look at the Division Styler. One question, they use the traditional phrase "using all hands" - is there an alternative condition if NOT using all hands?
So using all hands at minimum is using 3 engines 2 ladders. They can use 2&2 but that’s the minimum. In the all hands DWH they will get the full 5 Engines 4 Ladders 2 Battalions
Great video! Question for you Skyler. On multiple alarms, what's the specific purpose of the communications engine when field comm is already there and functioning on the 2nd?
Thanks! Communications engine is to enhance communications with Kutta Radios. If they are not gonna be used for communications they will be used for Relief purposes.
Where would one get a command board like this? I heard Con Ed makes them for the FDNY is there any truth to this and could you purchase one for an EMA OR Emergency Services Agency.
They are all Deputy Chiefs. The most senior Deputy Chief is known as the Division Commander but still ranked as a Deputy Chief. The Messenger firefighter drives in a Sprinter van. Goes to Metro Tech (HQ) picks up mail, paychecks, drops them off at the firehouses. Picks up tools, equipment, SCBAs that might be OOS. Division has a handful of spare equipment that can be passed out in emergency. Radios, masks, etc Messengers will also respond anytime the Division does to assist with command board
By giving one to each division makes it available at every fire. Currently only foam tankers and hazmat tech engines have them. There is a 197 engines can’t give one to everyone.
Silly question. I watch your videos and over the radio you’ll hear a transmission that goes something like “Ladder 13 acting Ladder 25” what does “acting” mean?
@@SkylerFire Thank YOU! In Brief WHAT is The Basic Different RESPONSIBILITY Between Deputy Chief And A Battalion Chief? You Should Do A Video Of The Rank AND File Of The N.Y.F.D. I Feel It Would Help YOUR Viewers Understand THE Management Rank Easier!.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎🤗
@glenndraper5760 it’s FDNY not NYFD. Deputy Chief over seas all operations over the battalion chiefs…. Battalions chiefs respond to smaller calls in nature.
Deputy Chief is the highest ranking position. A Deputy becomes a Division Chief when they are assigned to a certain Division. A lot of Deputy's are not assigned to a division, no ?
Why do they give the Division Chiefs a blitz and cockloft nozzle. At any incident FDNY will have more apparatus and manpower than God, wouldn't an engine company be better suited to carrying that rather than a command position that wouldn't have the personnel or hoses to deploy it?
Not every engine has a Cockloft nozzle, selected Engines and Squad have them, it’s so companies can go right to it and grab it…. Blitz fire only 10 companies have it. So a Division is on every 10-75 so all a company has to do is take it from the back to use it. Every engine has 2.5 hose.
@@SkylerFire There is a mask on each pack, a spare mask, and then you said there were two AV3000 masks in a bag - unless I'm mistaken AV3000 is just the newer version of the AV2000 - the common Scott SCBA mask

Why is the division chief carrying a blitz nozzle, would think the FDNY can purchase a few of them and place them on Engine companies.
