Original Sokos Hotel Viru Tallinn

Original Sokos Hotel Viru is a hotel in Tallinn. Inturist's Viru hotel was opened on May 5, 1972. The hotel building was the first tower block built in Estonia and an inseparable part of Tallinn's cityscape. The main designers of the building were the Estonian architects Mart Port and Henno Seppman. Nowadays, the shopping center Viru Keskus is located next to the hotel.
During the Soviet era, the 23rd floor of the hotel was home to a radio center used by the KGB, from which they eavesdropped and monitored hotel guests. There were eavesdropping devices in 60 hotel rooms, and some tables in the Viru hotel restaurant also had microphones. The KGB left the hotel after Estonia regained its independence in 1991, but the secret room was only revealed in 1994. The former radio room is now a museum.
Original Sokos Hotel Viru on hotelli Tallinnassa. Inturistin Viru-hotelli avattiin 5. toukokuuta 1972. Hotellirakennus oli ensimmäinen Viroon rakennettu tornitalo ja erottamaton osa Tallinnan kaupunkikuvaa. Rakennuksen pääsuunnittelijat olivat virolaiset arkkitehdit Mart Port ja Henno Seppman. Nykyisin hotellin yhteydessä sijaitsee ostoskeskus Viru Keskus.
Neuvostoaikana hotellin 23. kerroksessa sijaitsi KGB:n käytössä ollut radiokeskus, josta käsin harjoitettiin hotellivieraiden salakuuntelua ja tarkkailua. 60 hotellihuoneessa oli salakuuntelulaitteet, ja myös joissakin Viru-hotellin ravintolan pöydissä oli mikrofoneja. KGB poistui hotellista Viron jälleenitsenäistyttyä vuonna 1991, mutta salainen huone paljastui vasta vuonna 1994. Entinen radiohuone on nykyisin museona.
